Wed Dec 5 201219:34Angels nearing one-year deal for Blanton
According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, the Angels are closing to signing Joe Blanton to a one-year deal.
Financial terms aren't available at this time. Blanton has put up nice peripherals over the last four seasons, but he hasn't had an ERA lower than 4.71 in the last three campaigns. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez hears that bringing in Blanton doesn't necessarily mean that the Halos are done shopping for starting pitching. They're considered unlikely to re-sign Zack Greinke.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox have "checked in on" Joe Blanton.
Blanton surely wouldn't be the Sox' primary acquisition as they look to beef up their pitching staff, but he's apparently one of the secondary options they're considering. The veteran right-hander posted a 4.71 ERA and 166/34 K/BB ratio over 191 innings for the Phillies and Dodgers this season.

Joe Blanton scattered seven hits across six scoreless innings in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Rockies.
Blanton struck out six and walked none in improving to 10-13, and 2-4 in 10 starts as a Dodger. If Blanton's thrown his final pitch of 2012, he'll finish the owner of a 4.71 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 166/34 K/BB ratio through 191 innings. He's headed for free agency.

Joe Blanton allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings Wednesday in a victory over the Rockies.

The Rockies went on to score seven runs in the inning before the Dodgers held on to win 10-8. It was Blanton's first victory in five starts as a Dodger. He likely would have been bounced from the rotation this week if not for Chad Billingsley's injury.

Wed Aug 22 201201:09Joe Blanton takes loss to Giants
Joe Blanton surrendered four runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Giants on Tuesday.
Blanton allowed 10 hits. All but one of them -- an Angel Pagan double -- was a single, but that's just too many to surrender and still expect to escape with minimal damage. Given that he's 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA in four starts for the team, the Dodgers will have to weigh bouncing him from the rotation.

Sat Aug 4 201218:26Blanton will start for the Dodgers on Sunday
Joe Blanton will make his Dodgers debut on Sunday afternoon against the Cubs.
Blanton, who was acquired from the Phillies on Friday, is replacing Stephen Fife in the Dodgers' starting rotation. A solid back-of-the-rotation innings-eater, Blanton compiled a 4.59 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 115/18 K/BB ratio in 133 1/3 innings with the Phillies before the trade.

Fri Aug 3 201216:34Dodgers acquire Joe Blanton from Phillies
Dodgers acquired RHP Joe Blanton from the Phillies for a player to be named player or cash considerations.
The deal was agreed to after the Dodgers claimed Blanton off waivers this week. While the Dodgers didn't end up acquiring Ryan Dempster before Tuesday's trade deadline, Blanton isn't the worst backup plan. The 31-year-old right-hander has a 4.59 ERA and 115/18 K/BB ratio over 133 1/3 innings this season. He's useful insurance for the rotation as Ted Lilly works his way back from shoulder issues.

Tue Jul 31 201211:33Orioles' pursuit for Joe Blanton hits snag
Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com writes that a deal between the Orioles and Phillies involving Joe Blanton is "looking more and more like it wont happen."
The Orioles don't want to pick up the $3 million left on Blanton's contract and the two sides differ on what the Phillies should get in return. Of course, a compromise could be reached before Tuesday's deadline, but a deal appears unlikely at the moment.

Mon Jul 30 201217:36Blanton's medical records faxed to Orioles
Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that Joe Blanton's medical records have been faxed to the Orioles' orthopedist.
It's unclear whether this is just due diligence or if the Phillies and Orioles are close to an agreement. Blanton has a 4.59 ERA and 115/18 K/BB ratio through 133 1/3 innings this season with Philadelphia. While the 31-year-old right-hander isn't a frontline starter, he would at least eat some innings for a thin starting staff.

Mon Jul 30 201211:23Orioles have spoken to Phillies about Blanton
CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Orioles have talked to the Phillies about Joe Blanton.
Blanton has made it through six innings in each of his last 10 starts and owns a cool 115/18 K/BB ratio through 133 1/3 overall frames this season. He'd be a nice fit for the Orioles, who have struggled to get consistent starting pitching. Blanton is currently scheduled to become a free agent five days after the conclusion of the World Series.

Joe Blanton pitched well in Saturday's loss to the Braves, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven strong innings.

A Chipper Jones sacrifice fly in the first inning got the Braves on the board, while a Jason Heyward RBI single in the third drove home the eventual winning run. While he hasn't been great, Blanton continues to plod along and effectively eat up innings at the back of the Phillies rotation. He'll take an 8-9 record and 4.59 ERA into Friday's home start against the Diamondbacks.

Tue Jul 17 201201:20Joe Blanton pitches Phillies past Dodgers
Joe Blanton held the Dodgers to two runs in eight innings and struck out seven in a victory Monday.
If the Phillies had a legitimate setup man, Blanton probably would have come out after seven tonight. They don't, so he didn't, and all worked out in the end. Tonight's outing was the first in the last 12 in which Blanton didn't give up at least one homer. He is now 8-8 with a 4.79 ERA for the season.

Sat Jul 7 201223:03Blanton hammered in loss to Braves
Joe Blanton was hammered in a loss to the Braves on Saturday, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits over his 6 1/3 innings.
He did manage to punch out six while walking just one, but was largely ineffective on the evening. Brian McCann got the scoring started with a solo blast in the second inning. After the Phillies offense staked him to a 3-1 lead after the 2nd, Blanton allowed one in the third, two more in the fourth and then a final pair before departing in the seventh inning. He's been nothing more than a solid innings eater of the first half of the season, posting a 7-8 record and unremarkable 4.98 ERA.
