Sat Aug 30 2014 | 16:29 | Tepesch optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday |
Tepesch was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. |
This is simply a procedural move to free up a spot on the active roster in the short term, with Tepesch expected to return to make his next scheduled start Wednesday in Kansas City. The Royals roughed Tepesch up for six runs on seven hits and three walks over 6.1 innings on Aug. 23. |

Tepesch picked up the loss on Saturday as he allowed six earned runs in six plus innings, while giving up seven hits and three walks against the Royals. |
With the game tied at one run apiece, Tepesch lost control in the fifth inning, as he gave up three four-pitch walks, two singles, and three runs. He walked Jarrod Dyson with the bases loaded then gave up a two-run single Omar Infante on an 0-2 pitch. Prior to Saturday's loss, Tepesch had won his previous three starts and now has a record of four wins and eight losses for the season. |

Tepesch allowed two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out one batter in seven innings of work in the Rangers' 3-2 win over the Angels on Sunday. |
Despite only 52 of his 91 pitches called strikes, Tepesch stranded eight Angels baserunners in the outing. He's allowed four runs in three starts in August, allowing his ERA to fall to 4.15 on the season. It's a good sign for the 25-year-old, who posted a 6.15 ERA in July. |
Wed Aug 6 2014 | 17:31 | Tepesch tossed 5.2 scoreless inning in winning effort Wednesday ... |
Tepesch tossed 5.2 scoreless inning in a winning effort Wednesday against the White Sox. |
The improbable victor in a duel with Chris Sale, Tepesch pounded the strike zone (55 of his 79 pitches were strikes) and stayed ahead of hitters throughout Wednesday's start. As the Rangers' rotation currently lines up, Tepesch will have two turns next week including a Tuesday home start against the Rays before a second home start Sunday (August 17) against the Angels. |
Mon Aug 4 2014 | 22:04 | Tepesch (knee) will return to Rangers' rotation to start Wednesd... |
Tepesch (knee) will return to the Rangers' rotation to start Wednesday's game against the White Sox, MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports. |
His last start was skipped because of soreness in his left knee, but after throwing two bullpen sessions over the past week, he says he is close to 100 percent healthy. In 12 starts this season, Tepesch has a 4.73 ERA, and is not a great option in most formats. He also has just 37 strikeouts in 67 innings, so there's very little upside here. |
Thu Jul 31 2014 | 11:04 | Nick Tepesch: (Knee) Throws Off Flat Ground Wednesday |
Tepesch (knee) threw off flat ground Wednesday and is expected to throw a bullpen session Friday, ESPN.com's Calvin Watkins reports. |
Tepesch already had his start pushed back this week, but the Rangers are optimistic he'll be ready to go for his next turn. If he can complete Friday's bullpen session without incident, Tepesch would likely be cleared to take the ball next Wednesday vs. the White Sox. |
Tue Jul 29 2014 | 16:40 | Tepesch (knee) pushed back in TEX rotation |
Nick Tepesch has been pushed back in the rotation. |
Meaning he won't make his scheduled start in the Rangers' three-game series against the Indians. Tepesch left his outing Saturday against the A's with soreness in his left knee. It's not a major concern. |

Sat Jul 26 2014 | 22:09 | Nick Tepesch leaves game with sore left knee |
Nick Tepesch left his start Saturday against the Athletics with left knee soreness. |
Tepesch pitched six innings before exiting, allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out two. It's not clear whether the right-hander will be able to make his next scheduled start, and the Rangers probably won't know for sure until early next week. |

Sun Jul 20 2014 | 16:31 | Nick Tepesch rocked by Blue Jays |
Nick Tepesch was smacked around for five runs on nine hits and two walks over just 4 1/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays. |
He also hit a batter, gave up a home run and didn't record a strikeout. Magically, Tepesch escaped with a no-decision in what turned out to be a 9-6 loss for the Rangers. The right-hander has now yielded 14 runs across his last three starts to push his ERA from 3.65 to 4.75. He'll try to bounce back next weekend against the A's, which seems like an unlikely proposition. |

Fri Jul 11 2014 | 23:30 | Tepesch gives up three runs in loss |
Nick Tepesch yielded three runs over six-plus innings in a loss to the Angels on Friday. |
Tepesch allowed just a solo home run to Mike Trout over his first six innings of work, but he was pulled after he gave up three straight singles to begin the seventh inning. The final run scored after he was replaced by Neftali Feliz. It was a pretty good outing for the most part, as Tepesch allowed no walks while striking out a pair, but the Rangers just couldn't get anything going against Garrett Richards and the Angels' bullpen. He'll finish off the first half with a 4.31 ERA over 10 starts. |

Tue Jul 1 2014 | 15:21 | Tepesch to start Friday against the Mets |
Nick Tepesch will make his next start Friday against the Mets. |
Tepesch was previously scheduled to pitch Wednesday against the Orioles, but he'll be moved back two days now that Miles Mikolas has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to start Wednesday. Yu Darvish remains on track to start Thursday. |

Fri Jun 27 2014 | 23:15 | Tepesch stellar over 7+ innings vs MIN |
Nick Tepesch blanked the Twins on three hits over seven and a third innings in Friday's 5-4 win. |
Tepesch struck out five and only walked two in securing his third win of the season. He evened his record at 3-3 and lowered his ERA to 3.65. This marks the second time in his last three starts that he hasn't allowed a run. He'll look to hold the Orioles down next time out. |

Sat Jun 14 2014 | 01:20 | Nick Tepesch excels in Rangers' 1-0 win |
Nick Tepesch shut out the Mariners for 6 1/3 innings Friday in the Rangers' 1-0 victory. |
Tepesch didn't get the win for his effort; it went to Steve Tolleson after the Ranger scored their lone run on a groundout in the top of the ninth. Still, it was Tepesch's best effort of the season to date, and he ensured that he'll remain in the rotation for a while longer. He does get the A's next, so AL-only leaguers will probably want him benched. |

Sat Jun 7 2014 | 19:13 | Nick Tepesch gives up four runs in loss |
Nick Tepesch gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Indians. |
Lefties had feasted on Tepesch this season, and he had to face eight of them (including two switch-hitters) against the Indians today. So, of course, it was the lone righty that did him in, with Yan Gomes hitting a three-run homer in the sixth. Tepesch is now 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA since his callup. If he stays in the rotation, he'll get another lefty heavy lineup next time out when he faces Seattle. |

Sat May 31 2014 | 15:07 | Nick Tepesch removed after two in loss |
Nick Tepesch was pulled for a pinch-hitter after giving up five runs -- four earned -- in two innings versus the Nationals on Saturday. |
This is the kind of day Tepesch can have when he misses his spots. He retired just five batters (one of whom was the pitcher), and he got one more out on a pickoff of Denard Span at first. It was his first bad outing and his first loss in four starts since being called up earlier this month, so he's going to stay in the rotation. He remains worth playing in AL-only leagues, but mixed leaguers should be able to do better. |

Mon May 26 2014 | 17:10 | Tepesch pitches well again as Rangers win |
Nick Tepesch delivered 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball in the Rangers' win over the Twins on Monday. |
Tepesch gave up a solo home run to Trevor Plouffe in the first inning and an Eduardo Escobar RBI single in the second inning, but he settled in after that and was able to make it into the seventh. The 25-year-old right-hander is 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over his first 18 1/3 innings this season. He could be a decent streamer in mixed fantasy leagues later this week in Washington. |

Thu May 15 2014 | 00:06 | Nick Tepesch holds Astros to one run |
Making his first start of the season, Nick Tepesch pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball and struck out eight against the Astros on Wednesday. |
Tepesch left with a 4-0 lead, but the runner he left on base came around to score and the Astros went on to tie the game in the seventh, ruining the right-hander's night. At least Tepesch showed enough to ensure that he'll hang in the rotation for a bit. We're not very high on him as a mixed-league option, but he should be a nice play in AL-only leagues for now. |

Wed May 14 2014 | 16:14 | Rangers call up RHP Tepesch |
Rangers recalled RHP Nick Tepesch from Triple-A Round Rock. |
Tepesch, the Rangers' fifth starter to open last year, will make his 2014 debut when he starts tonight against the Astros. He was doing excellent work in Triple-A (1.58 ERA), so he's worth grabbing in AL-only leagues. |

Sun May 11 2014 | 14:44 | Nick Tepesch to start on Wednesday |
Nick Tepesch will be called up to start on Wednesday versus the Astros. |
He's taking the place of Martin Perez (elbow), who will miss at least one start. Tepesch certainly earned the promotion with his work at Triple-A Round Rock, as he boasts a 1.58 ERA over seven starts. He could stay in the rotation for a while if Perez misses significant time. |

Mon Mar 17 2014 | 16:54 | Rangers make cuts, including Nick Tepesch |
Rangers optioned RHPs Nick Tepesch, Cory Burns, and Miles Mikolas, and INF Andy Parrino to Triple-A Round Rock; reassigned RHP Daniel Bard, Cs Patrick Cantwell and Brett Nicholas, INF Kensuke Tanaka and OFs Brad Snyder and Bryan Petersen to minor league camp. |
Tepesch is the biggest name of the bunch, but he pitched his way out of consideration for a roster spot after allowing 10 runs over eight innings of work this spring. Bard, formerly of the Red Sox and Cubs, is working his way back from thoracic outlet surgery and will likely begin the year on the minor league disabled list. |
