Thu Aug 22 2013 | 11:55 | DeJesus claimed on waivers by unknown team |
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, David DeJesus has been claimed off revocable waivers. |
The Nationals acquired DeJesus from the Cubs on Monday for a player to be named later but could now look to move him to get out of the $2.5 million in salary that the outfielder is still owed. DeJesus is still a productive and versatile player, and would be a nice addition for a contending club. The Nationals can either pull him back off waivers, try to work out a trade with the team that claimed him or let him go to that team for free. |

Yes, they have placed him on waivers the same day that they acquired him. It appears that the Nats' main intention was not to trade for DeJesus but rather to keep someone else from getting him. They inherited the just over $1 million on his contract for the rest of the season, as well as the $6.5 million club option (or $1.5 million buyout) for 2014. |

DeJesus has started out of every spot in the order except fourth during his career, but he can scratch that one off the bucket list Friday against St. Louis. Of course, this speaks more to the pathetic Cubs' lineup than DeJesus' production. |
