Wed Feb 27 201916:06Warriors host some kids from Stoneman Douglas for practice
MIAMI (AP) — Stephen Curry would ordinarily be getting off his feet as fast as possible after a morning shootaround practice, saving his legs for the looming game that night.Wednesday, however, wasn't ordinary.Golden State coach Steve Kerr invited some students — including ones from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, the school in Parkland where 17 students and staff were killed in a massacre on Feb. 14, 2018 — into the Warriors' game-morning practice in Miami. And long after the session was over, Curry was throwing alley-oop lobs and engaging in 3-point contests with kids who couldn't believe they were hanging out with stars from the two-time defending NBA champions."You hate that you have these opportunities because of what happened at our school," said Jeff Foster, a teacher and former coach at Stoneman Douglas. "But at the same time, it's nice to have these contacts and meet people and coach Kerr has been at a few of the events with our kids ... you're always glad to sit around and talk... [More]

Thu Nov 15 201815:11Warriors' Green not apologizing, he and Durant moving on
HOUSTON (AP) — Draymond Green isn't apologizing for his part in a dustup with Kevin Durant that led to a one-game suspension by the Golden State Warriors. But Green vowed Thursday that the Warriors are not imploding, regardless of whatever is, or isn't happening, following the heated exchange between he and Durant in Monday night's overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.Green said he and Durant have spoken and that they're "moving forward."The Warriors forward spoke on Thursday for the first time since the incident. He opened his session with reporters by saying: "I'm going to speak on this one time and one time only," and refused to take any questions about it after he was done."I think there's no secret that I am an emotional player," he said. "I wear my emotions on my sleeve. I play with that same emotion. Sometimes they get the best of me. And (if) it doesn't work to my favor I'm going to live with that."He continued by saying that the passionate way he plays the game has led him... [More]

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Golden State Warriors don't expect Draymond Green's latest dustup with Kevin Durant to become a long-term issue for the two-time defending NBA champions.Nor do they expect the emotional Green to change after his one-game suspension by the team Tuesday.Durant said he expects to work things out with Green, saying, "I'm sure it will, we've got a long season ahead.""His presence has been a part of this team for a while, even before I got here he'd been a huge staple in this organization," Durant said. "Obviously it's definitely weird not having him around and everything that went down. But that's what happens, (stuff) happens in the NBA."Green was suspended one game without pay for conduct detrimental to the team following an altercation a night earlier with Durant, though general manager Bob Myers declined to offer specifics on the All-Star forward's behavior that was considered going too far. He loves to play basketball, which is all you can ask of him."The Warriors made the announcement about four hours before they were set to host Atlanta, and the 28-year-old Green was serving the suspension against the Hawks. Tue Nov 13 201820:26Warriors suspend fiery Draymond Green 1 game for conduct
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Warriors All-Star forward Draymond Green was suspended one game without pay by Golden State on Tuesday for conduct detrimental to the team. The Warriors made the announcement about four hours before they were set to host Atlanta, and said Green would serve the suspension against the Hawks. In the closing seconds of regulation during Monday's 121-116 overtime loss on the road to the Clippers, Green secured a rebound and, with Kevin Durant calling for the ball, instead dribbled the length of the court into traffic and lost control as the Warriors failed to get a shot off. Durant was shown on camera visibly upset immediately afterward. Then, back on the bench waiting for the extra period to begin, the two traded words and gestured with Klay Thompson seated between them and Andre Iguodala, DeMarcus Cousins and others trying to calm the situation.General manager Bob Myers and coach Steve Kerr have long supported Green's fiery nature that leads to technical fouls. Tue Jul 10 201823:27Warriors lose security man Walker, athletic trainer Lane
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Golden State Warriors security man Ralph Walker, who in recent seasons had primarily worked closely with Stephen Curry, has departed the organization to spend more time with family.Walker confirmed his exit via text message, saying, "Will miss you all." He had been a fixture on the Golden State sidelines and almost anywhere Curry went, staying close to the two-time MVP at home and on the road. Walker is a former member of the Oakland Police Department. Also Tuesday, the Warriors said athletic trainer Chelsea Lane had departed for a job running the Atlanta Hawks training staff. She played a key role in getting Curry back from a knee injury this postseason as the Warriors won a second straight championship and third in four years — and Lane worked back several other stars from late-season injuries, too, such as Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala.A contract extension for coach Steve Kerr is expected to be announced soon once he signs the new deal. Kerr has one year remaining on his original $25 million, five-year agreement. Kerr had planned some family travel in Europe for July.Golden State also announced the re-signing of big man Kevon Looney that had been agreed to last week when free agency began. Looney, receiving a one-year deal for the minimum, averaged 4.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game and earned five postseason starts.___More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/tag/NBAbasketball

Tue Jul 3 201821:54AP source: Warriors to re-sign big man Kevon Looney
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Golden State Warriors will be much younger next season, and general manager Bob Myers is working to keep much of the core intact to chase another championship.Versatile big man Kevon Looney will re-sign with the two-time defending champions on a one-year deal for the minimum, a person with direct knowledge of the agreement said Tuesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Looney's new deal cannot become official until he signs after the moratorium period is lifted Friday.Golden State already reached agreement with two-time reigning NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant on a two-year contract with a player option.Bringing back Looney, a power forward and center, was a top priority for Myers, who also hopes to re-sign guard Patrick McCaw.Looney lost about 30 pounds last offseason to transform his body, make himself faster and give him a regular spot in coach Steve Kerr's rotation, even earning starts in five postseason games during the absence of Andre Iguodala. In his third professional season, the 22-year-old Looney averaged 4.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game. While the Warriors lost center JaVale McGee to the Lakers, they added DeMarcus Cousins on Monday to give Golden State five potential All-Star starters once Cousins returns from a torn Achilles tendon that required surgery.ESPN first reported Looney's agreement.___More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/tag/NBAbasketball

Tue May 29 201814:05Why the Golden State Warriors will win the NBA Finals
If there is a glaring hole on Golden State's championship resume, it's that the Warriors have never gone back-to-back.That will change. The Warriors are about to win their second straight NBA championship and their third in the last four seasons — all of them coming at the expense of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who won't have enough even if LeBron James plays to the absolute utmost of his capabilities. The Warriors have home-court advantage, and have three of the best four players who will appear in the series. They're just too good to lose.If they were going to lose, it would have been in the Western Conference finals against the Houston Rockets. Houston was a team that was built for one purpose — beating the Warriors. And the Rockets might have done it, too, had Chris Paul's hamstring not popped in the final seconds of Game 5 and forced him to the sideline for the rest of the series.Golden State rallied in both Game 6 and Game 7, as Paul looked on helplessly. Yes, the Warriors caught a huge... [More]
Tue May 29 201803:25Warriors back in NBA Finals again after test from Rockets
HOUSTON (AP) — The Golden State Warriors, so used to making things look easy, overcame one of their toughest tests to return to the NBA Finals. They climbed out of huge holes in the last two games of the Western Conference finals to beat Houston, but may have to play in the first half the way they have after halftime if they hope to knock off LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers and repeat as champions."They played a great series, they made us work for everything ... I'm just proud of the way we battled," Klay Thompson said. "We've been through a lot with this team, and believe it or not, it's not all success with the Warriors.""We've got our bumps throughout the season," he continued. "But to get to this point again, we earned it."Without Andre Iguodala again, the Warriors shook off another terrible first half in Game 7 on Monday night to rally for a 101-92 victory that made them the fifth team in NBA history to advance to the finals in four straight seasons.Golden State trailed by...
