Wed Sep 15 201009:23Edmonds (oblique) could return soon
Reds manager Dusty Baker said that Jim Edmonds (oblique) has responded well to batting practice.
"It seemed like he's doing pretty good," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. "I think he's ahead of schedule actually. I want to make sure it's ready like I always do." There was some thought that Edmonds could be done for the season -- and perhaps his career -- due to a torn right oblique, but it now sounds like he has a legitimate shot to return.

Mon Sep 13 201016:44Edmonds takes BP, looks 'free and easy'
Jim Edmonds (oblique) was able to take batting practice Monday.
Edmonds appeared to be swinging "free and easy," according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Still, there's no guarantee that the 40-year-old outfielder will be ready for live action by the end of the regular season. He's sidelined currently due to a torn oblique muscle.

Mon Sep 6 201013:50Edmonds says oblique is torn, not strained
Jim Edmonds told MLB.com's Mark Sheldon that his oblique injury actually involves a torn muscle.
The issue was originally called a "strain," but it's a bit more serious than that. Edmonds, 40, seems unlikely to return this season and may decide to finally call it quits despite turning in an impressive .272/.337/.481 batting line, nine homers and 21 RBI over 239 at-bats.

Mon Aug 30 201018:02Edmonds (oblique) leaning towards retirement
According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Jim Edmonds (oblique) said he is leaning towards retirement after the 2010 season.
"I've made my mark," said Edmonds. "I've done as much as I can do as an everyday player." Edmonds has returned to bat a surprising .272/.337/.481 with nine home runs and 21 RBI in 239 at-bats between the Brewers and Reds this season. The 40-year-old outfielder hit the disabled list with a strained right oblique last week, but he is expected to be back sometime during September.

Tue Aug 24 201018:51Reds place Edmonds on 15-day DL
Reds placed OF Jim Edmonds on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.
Edmonds suffered the injury during a swing on Monday night. It's a tough blow for the veteran outfielder, but he should be back just in time for the homestretch. Drew Stubbs should benefit greatly in his absence.
Tue Aug 24 201001:01Reds' Edmonds leaves with strained oblique
Jim Edmonds was forced out of Monday's game in the sixth inning with a strained right oblique muscle.
Edmonds was injured on a swing and miss, and Drew Stubbs came in to pinch-hit for him. It could well be a DL-type situation for Edmonds, which would mean a lot more playing time for Stubbs.
Mon Aug 9 201017:20Edmonds to be part-time player with Reds
Reds manager Dusty Baker confirmed that the newly-acquired Jim Edmonds will be a part-time player.
Just in case there was any doubt. "I don't know if he has everyday in him," Baker said of the 40-year-old outfielder. "We mix and match everybody here." The location may be different, but Edmonds' fantasy value doesn't change all that much.

Mon Aug 9 201014:54Edmonds batting 5th, playing CF in Reds debut
Jim Edmonds is batting fifth and playing center field on Monday night against Cardinals right-hander Chris Carpenter.
Edmonds was acquired from the Brewers on Monday afternoon for outfielder Chris Dickerson and will be making his Reds debut against a team that he spent eight years with. This serious should be a blast.

Mon Aug 9 201013:28Reds get veteran Jim Edmonds for playoff run
Reds acquired OF Jim Edmonds from the Brewers for OF Chris Dickerson.
Interesting timing by Reds manager Walt Jocketty, whose club opens an important three-game series on Monday night against Edmonds' former team, the second-place Cardinals. Edmonds, 40, has posted a respectable .843 OPS, eight home runs and 20 RBI in 217 at-bats this season. The Reds have a crowded outfield and playing time will be limited, but he's a nice guy to have off the bench, especially if Cincy makes it to October.

Sun Aug 1 201013:15Edmonds in Sunday's lineup
Jim Edmonds is in Sunday's starting lineup.
The veteran outfielder has been slowed by achilles tendinitis and hasn't started a game since July 24. He was red-hot before the malady and even contributed a home run in a pinch-hitting role Monday. Hopefully the ailment is now behind him.

Fri Jul 30 201018:30Red Sox checked in on Edmonds
The Red Sox have checked in with the Brewers on the availability of Jim Edmonds.
Edmonds still isn't sure as of Friday afternoon whether he wanted to be traded to a playoff contender. Brewers GM Doug Melvin has promised the outfielder that he would run a trade by him before making a deal. Edmonds has had a hot bat lately and could be a solid addition to a potential playoff team's bench.

Fri Jul 30 201017:41Brewers' Edmonds gets guarantee from GM
Jim Edmonds said he was told GM Doug Melvin would contact him first before agreeing to any trade.
Edmonds, who is likely in his final year, is in no hurry to leave Milwaukee. He doesn't have a no-trade clause, but Melvin is likely to respect his wishes and only trade him to a club he'd like to play for.

Tue Jul 20 201023:24Edmonds collects four hits against Bucs
Jim Edmonds finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI in an 11-9 loss to the Pirates.
The 40-year-old is brittle and can't play much more than the part-time role he's being employed in, but he clearly had something in the tank after not playing last year. He's now batting .280/.345/.468 in 186 at-bats and is worth using in moderately-sized NL-only leagues.
Sat Jul 10 201000:31Edmonds returns to action
Jim Edmonds collected a pinch-hit single in an extra-inning win over the Pirates on Friday night.
Edmonds was originally supposed to play left field in place of Ryan Braun on Thursday, but was unavailable due to a sore Achilles' heel.
Tue Jun 22 201023:39Edmonds doubles twice in victory
Jim Edmonds went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in a win over the Twins on Tuesday night.
The 39-year-old proved that he still has some giddy-up in his legs on both doubles, which both required some serious hustle. He hadn't played since June 16 due to a sore shoulder.
Tue Jun 22 201016:46Edmonds returns to Brewers' lineup
Jim Edmonds is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.
