Mon Apr 15 201317:03Callaspo (calf) out again Monday
Alberto Callaspo (calf) is out of the Angels' lineup for the fourth straight game on Monday.
Callaspo hasn't played since Thursday because of tightness in his right calf. He's still listed on the lineup card as an extra, so the Angels aren't placing him on the disabled list yet. They likely can't go short-handed much longer, though. Luis Jimenez is playing third base again Monday.

Mon Mar 25 201319:41Callaspo hits two-run homer in win Monday
Alberto Callaspo clubbed a two-run homer in Monday's 11-5 win over the White Sox.
It was Callapso's first home run of the spring. The 29-year-old is hitting a cool .340 (17-for-50) during Cactus League play and is expected to serve as the Angels' starting third baseman in 2013. However, with only modest pop and minimal speed, he doesn't offer much appeal outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

The Angels are nearing agreement on a two-year contract with infielder Alberto Callaspo, according to beat writer Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
The deal, if finalized under the reported terms, will buy out Callaspo's final season of arbitration eligibility and his first year of free agency. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez says it could be worth around $9 million. Callaspo, 29, posted a .252/.331/.361 batting line with 10 home runs and 53 RBI in 138 games last season for the Angels. He will serve as Anaheim's regular third baseman for the foreseeable future.

Wed Sep 5 201201:04Callaspo plates two, leads Angels over A's
Alberto Callaspo had two hits and drove in two runs on Tuesday night, leading the Angels to a 4-1 victory over the Athletics in Oakland.
Callaspo delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to put the Angels up 2-0, then added an insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth. He's been a disappointment offensively this season, hitting just .249 with eight homers and 41 RBI in 369 at-bats. But he played a big role Tuesday night in a crucial victory for the Halos.

Thu Jun 21 201201:05Alberto Callaspo homers in win
Alberto Callaspo homered and doubled in Wednesday's win over the Giants.
He took Ryan Vogelsong deep for a solo shot in the second. The bomb was only Callaspo's fourth of the season, though two of those have come in his past six games. Still hitting just .246/.306/.345, however, he's not a viable option in 12-14 team mixed leagues.

Alberto Callaspo went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers.
Callaspo's second inning blast off of Nathan Eovaldi was his third of the year. Hitting just .250/.317/.329 and still only a part-time player, Callaspo is off the radar in 12-14 team mixed leagues.

Wed May 23 201219:04Alberto Callaspo's double leads Angels
Alberto Callaspo delivered a two-run double in the top of the 11th to lead the Angels to a 3-1 win over the A's on Wednesday.
Callaspo also walked twice in the game. He's been playing pretty much every other day lately because of his offensive struggles, but if he can get hot, the Angels wouldn't have any reason not to start him at third base more frequently. Today's showing won't hurt.

Mon Apr 9 201212:56Callapso starting at 3B Monday vs. Twins
Alberto Callapso is starting at third base in Monday afternoon's game against the Twins.
That's now two starts at the hot corner for Callapso and two starts for Mark Trumbo through the Angels' first four games. It's a situation that will probably be worth monitoring all year, with Callapso offering the better defense but Trumbo providing more power potential.

Mon Apr 9 201211:54Callapso giving way to Trumbo starts
Alberto Callaspo has started at third base in just one of the Angels' first three games this season.
Mark Trumbo, meanwhile, has started in the other two. Callapso is by far the better defensive player and offers a higher career OBP, but it seems the Halos are going to employ a kind of platoon at the hot corner all year.

The Angels signed Alberto Callaspo to a $3.15 million contract for 2012, avoiding arbitration.
Callaspo did well for himself in his second year of arbitration eligibility, securing a decent raise for 2012 after making $2 million in 2011. The 28-year-old batted .288 with a .740 OPS, six home runs and 46 RBI across 536 plate appearances last season. He will start at third base for Anaheim this year.

Mon Dec 5 201117:14Blue Jays interested in Alberto Callaspo
Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that if the Angels sign Aramis Ramirez and opt to trade Alberto Callaspo, the Blue Jays would have interest in him.
The Blue Jays would likely play Callaspo at second base. He sports a solid .281/.337/.389 career batting line and has two .300 seasons under his belt, but his bat certainly profiles better at second. He's not a quality defensive second baseman, however.

Alberto Callaspo went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Angels' 4-2 win over Seattle on Sunday.
The multi-hit effort was Callaspo's first in nine starts. He is in the middle of a largely solid season, however, and will bring a .281/.355/.356 triple slash with him into the All-Star break.
