Mon May 16 201114:55Jorge Posada not in Monday's lineup vs. Rays
Jorge Posada is not in Monday night's lineup against Rays left-hander David Price.
No surprise here. Posada has struggled mightily against left-handed pitching this season and the Yankees want to give him a chance to actually break out of his offensive rut. Alex Rodriguez is serving as the DH with Eduardo Nunez at third base. Posada should start Tuesday against Tampa Bay right-hander James Shields.

Sun May 15 201120:35Yankees will not discipline Jorge Posada
The Yankees will not discipline Jorge Posada.
Posada apologized to the team for his actions on Saturday and the Yankees accepted. Posada asked out of Saturday's lineup because he was upset about being asked to bat ninth and the YES Network suggested that he "threw a hissy fit" in manager Joe Girardi's office before the game. Posada said all the right things to his team and the media on Sunday, however, and this whole situation appears to have blown over.

Sun May 15 201116:43Posada not in lineup for 2nd straight game
Jorge Posada (back) is not in Sunday's lineup for the second consecutive game.
There has been no official reason given by the Yankees for his absence. Posada claimed he asked out of Saturday's lineup because of a back injury and not because he was upset about being asked to bat ninth, but the YES Network suggested that he "threw a hissy fit" in manager Joe Girardi's office before the game over his demotion. The struggling veteran is hitting .165 and making $13.1 million this season. Don't expect this story to go away.

Sat May 14 201123:21Yankees, Posada try to downplay controversy
Jorge Posada claimed he asked out of Saturday's lineup because of a back injury and not because he was upset about being asked to bat ninth.
We're not buying this story for a second. Earlier in the night, GM Brian Cashman clearly said that Posada was not hurt and reports from the YES Network suggest that the struggling veteran "threw a hissy fit" in Girardi's office before the game over his demotion. Now both sides are doing damage control. With Posada making $13.1 million this year, he's not going to retire and the Yankees will give him some rope. Owners should hold steady for now while those in keeper leagues should make sure Jesus Montero is not available.

Sat May 14 201120:14Report: Posada 'insulted' by hitting ninth
Jorge Posada told manager Joe Girardi he was "insulted" about hitting ninth and "threw a hissy fit," according to Jack Curry of YES Network.
This could get ugly. Posada is one of the greatest Yankees ever, but the bottom line is that his production caused the demotion. We doubt Posada will retire, but whispers are swirling. FOX's Ken Rosenthal is speculating that the Yankees could accuse Posada of being in breach of contract and dock him two days pay.

Sat May 14 201120:00Jorge Posada took himself out of the lineup
GM Brian Cashman revealed that Jorge Posada removed himself from the Yankees' lineup Saturday night.
Posada and his .165 batting average was demoted to ninth in the lineup and he seemed fine with it. But at 6 p.m., the designated went into Joe Girardi's office and said would not be playing. Posada is now sitting on the bench watching the game, while Andruw Jones is serving as the designated hitter. Posada's situation appears fluid, with retirement whispers swirling.

Sat May 14 201118:35Struggling Posada a late scratch on Saturday
Jorge Posada was a late scratch from the Yankees' lineup on Saturday.
Earlier today, manager Joe Girardi announced that Posada and his .165 average would be demoted to ninth in the lineup. The designated hitter seemed fine with that, so this has the look of a late injury. Andruw Jones will DH against the Red Sox tonight.

Sat May 14 201115:36Posada dropped to ninth in Yanks' lineup
Jorge Posada was dropped to ninth in Saturday's lineup against the Red Sox.
Posada isn't being dropped from the lineup yet, but it's clear that Yankees manager Joe Girardi is losing patience. The 39-year-old is batting just .165 over his first 125 plate appearances this season.

Thu May 12 201102:15Posada has rare two-hit night
Jorge Posada went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of walks Wednesday, as the Yankees fell to the Royals 4-3.
It was Posada's fifth multi-hit game of the season and third in the past nine games. He also struck out once -- his ninth straight game with at least one K -- while lifting his average to .162.

Mon May 2 201122:30Posada finally breaks out of funk
Jorge Posada went 2-for-5 with two RBI in New York's win over the Tigers on Monday.
The two-hit effort was Posada's first since April 13 (14 games), and snapped a horrid 3-for-38 slump. He is now batting .150. Manager Joe Girardi recently pledged to start rotating more players in and out at designated hitter, but Posada should still ultimately play and produce enough to warrant starting at catcher in mixed leagues.

Fri Apr 29 201119:57Yanks may start giving Posada more time off
Yankees manager Joe Girardi is mulling benching designated hitter Jorge Posada more often.
With the veteran Posada batting a woeful .130 through his first 69 at-bats, Girardi may start a rotation at DH. "We've said all along, when you get into some situations where you're playing some long stretches, you might see other guys DH a little bit," Girardi said. "We are going to do that because we're (playing) 32 out of 33 days." Alex Rodriguez, Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher could all see time at DH in the coming weeks. As for Posada, he's not worth starting at positions other than catcher in mixed leagues.

Mon Apr 25 201113:05Posada already has six homers on the year
Jorge Posada already has six home runs this season.
Posada isn't drawing a ton of walks and is batting just .153, but the power has been there all month and he should continue to mash out of the designated hitter spot. He has major fantasy value in leagues where he can still get eligibility at catcher.

Thu Apr 14 201122:41Jorge Posada ties it up with homer
Jorge Posada had just one hit Thursday, but he made it count, belting a solo shot in the ninth inning to tie the game in an eventual win over the Orioles.
When did Posada turn into Rob Deer? The catcher-turned-DH is hitting a paltry .189 this season but has gone deep five times to tie for the American League lead. He's still a good bet to bat in the .260-.270 range while hitting 20 homers.

Mon Apr 11 201102:04Posada not feeling comfortable at the plate
Jorge Posada struck out three times in three at-bats Sunday night against Josh Beckett and the Red Sox.
After starting the season on fire, the veteran is mired in an 0-for-17 slump. "I'm just not feeling comfortable at the plate," Posada said. "I'm just a little bit off, like I'm being caught in between pitches. Thinking a little bit too much, probably."

Sat Apr 9 201109:44Jorge Posada getting Saturday off
Jorge Posada is out of the lineup Saturday.
Posada is hitless in his last three games and is batting just .154 on the year. He does have three home runs, but the former catcher is still getting used to a full-time DH role. Eric Chavez will start in Posada's place Saturday.

Mon Apr 4 201110:55Posada getting more comfy with DH role
Jorge Posada is beginning to grow more comfortable with his new designated hitter role.
Posada slugged two homers Sunday against the Tigers and is now batting .273/.385/.818 through 11 at-bats. Serving mostly as a DH this season should help him stay healthy. And when Jorge is healthy, he often hits.

Sun Apr 3 201116:43Posada homers twice in wild loss
Jorge Posada hit two of the Yankees' four home runs against the Tigers on Sunday, but his big day wasn't enough in New York's 10-7 loss.
Both of his homers came off of Max Scherzer and were two-run shots, bringing his RBI total to four on the season. All but freed from the grind of catching in 2011, Posada is in great shape to turn in another 20-homer, 70-RBI campaign.

Fri Apr 1 201104:03Posada flat in opener as DH
Jorge Posada went 0-for-4 in his debut as the Yankees' new designated hitter.
Posada flied out three times and struck out once. It was the first time he was not behind the plate for a Yankee opener since 1999. Despite the numbers, he said his new role as DH "felt real good."

Wed Mar 23 201110:40Posada open to playing elsewhere in 2012
Jorge Posada told Kevin Kernan of the New York Post that he would consider playing elsewhere if the Yankees don't want him back for 2012.
"I would, if it's the right situation," said Posada, who would prefer to stay with the Yankees. "It's got to be the right situation." The 39-year-old is entering the final year of a four-year, $52.4 million contract with the Bombers. The Yankees figure to have a number of options for designated hitter in upcoming seasons, so it will be interesting to see how things play out this winter. It's all hypothetical for now, though.

Thu Mar 10 201110:24Posada playing first base Thursday
Jorge Posada is in the lineup as the first baseman Thursday.
"He's played there in the past," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "It is not like it is an invention." If anything, Girardi said this shows that Posada's surgically-repaired left knee isn't an issue. The 39-year-old has made 28 appearances at first base during his major league career and could be a consideration there in an emergency. Nick Swisher and Eric Chavez are also capable of playing the position.
