Laynce Nix (ankle) is still unable to run and his return date is unknown.
Nix was eligible to be activated from the DL Friday, but it doesn't sound like he's close to coming back. The Reds might choose to shut him down for the regular season and get him ready for a possible bench spot in the postseason.

Tue Aug 31 201017:13Reds place Nix on 15-day disabled list
Reds placed OF Laynce Nix on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 26, with a sprained left ankle.
Nix hasn't been able to run since spraining his ankle last Monday, so it didn't make much sense to keep him on the active roster any longer. He should be back during September.

Laynce Nix said that his ankle, which forced him to leave Monday's game, remains tender.
"I'm going to tape it up as tight as I can and try to be available," he said. Nix didn't play Tuesday and probably will be used only in pinch-hitting situations for a few days.

Chris Heisey replaced him in the game against the Giants. Nix was hurt beating out an infield single.

Reds manager Dusty Baker told the media before Saturday's game against the Cardinals that Nix will be used only in a "dire emergency." In other words, he's likely to ride the pine the whole night.

Mon May 3 201023:01Nix's walkoff pushes Reds past Mets in extras
Laynce Nix connected for a pinch-hit, walkoff solo home run in a 3-2 win over the Mets in 11 innings on Monday night.
The Mets used Francisco Rodriguez in Sunday's blowout loss to the Phillies, but for some reason, Jerry Manuel thought Manny Acosta was a better option in the 11th inning. He paid for it, as Nix hit a one-out home run to lead the Reds to the victory. It was the first home run in 29 at-bats for Nix this season.

Laynce Nix was scratched from Thursday's game against the Marlins due to flu-like symptoms.
Chris Dickerson is in center, Jonny Gomes is in left and Jay Bruce is in right as the Reds gear up for a matchup with Marlins ace Josh Johnson. Nix was expected to start, but was scratched before batting practice.
