Mon Dec 3 201209:16Carlisle: Derek Fisher will need to get legs
Rick Carlisle said that it will take some time for Derek Fisher to "get his legs" under him.
Fisher was 1-of-8 for two points, three assists and two steals in his debut. "He gives us more options, and his experience, you just can't substitute what that means," Carlisle said. "I liked when he and [Darren] Collison were together, I thought that was a pretty productive lineup." Fisher is of no value in standard formats, while Collison is averaging 8.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.0 steals in his new bench role.

Sun Dec 2 201201:11Derek Fisher plays 24 minutes in debut
Derek Fisher played 24 minutes in his Dallas debut and shot 1-of-8 from the field for two points adding two rebounds, three assists and two steals against the Pistons on Saturday.
Fisher is well past his prime but he gives the veteran Mavs proven leadership and competent PG play, while allowing Darren Collison to shift to a bench role. It's not ideal for fantasy purposes, unfortunately, and Fisher is unlikely to hold value in 12-team leagues.

Sat Dec 1 201212:08Derek Fisher likely starter in Mavs' debut
Derek Fisher will make his season debut for the Mavericks on Saturday.
"He's probably going to be our starting point guard," said Rick Carlisle. "We've got a great situation with him and Collison, 'cause we've got two really good players there and I see a real possibility that those guys could play together some, too." A Collison and Fisher backcourt raises intriguing possibilities, but a bench role is still potential bad news for Collison's fantasy owners, and it diminishes Vince Carter's upside.

Fri Nov 30 201213:53Carlisle: Fisher is 'probably' starting PG
Rick Carlisle said that Derek Fisher will "probably" be the Mavericks starting point guard.
Fisher's numbers last season as a starter weren't pretty: 5.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 3-pointers on 38.3 percent shooting, and he shot just 34.4 percent from the field overall during his time with the Thunder. Dallas is relying on him to provide veteran leadership and stability at the position, and Carlisle has also said that he likes Darren Collison coming off the bench. Fisher should be on waiver wires unless you're in a pretty deep format.

Thu Nov 29 201215:56Mavericks officially sign Derek Fisher
Mavericks sign G Derek Fisher.
Troy Murphy was waived to make room for the 38-year-old guard. Fisher could take over as the starting point guard, but it's hard to imagine Fish getting big minutes with his ineptitude on the defensive end. We would leave Fisher on the waiver wire in almost all leagues.

Thu Nov 29 201208:44Report: Fisher to start over Collison at PG
Rick Carlisle said that he expects Derek Fisher to help the Mavericks "as a starter."
The Dallas Morning News calls Fisher "probably the eventual starter at point guard," and Carlisle's comments seem to indicate that Darren Collison is set to continue coming off the bench. "I think that's a great role for him right now," Carlisle said. "I really like Darren Collison as a player, and I like him even better as a person. But putting him in a position to be the starter on this team right now isn't fair to him." Fisher averaged 4.9 points and 1.4 assists on 34.3 percent shooting (20 minutes per game) with OKC last season.

Wed Nov 28 201222:46Mavericks will sign Derek Fisher on Thursday
The Mavericks will sign Derek Fisher on Thursday.
This signing may have something to do with Darren Collison (finger) not playing on Wednesday. The 38-year-old guard played 20 minutes per game last season and it should be interesting to see how many minutes he could handle. Regardless, we wouldn't suggest adding Fisher unless you're in a very deep league at this point.

Wed Nov 28 201219:57Teams expressing interest in Fisher?
Derek Fisher is expected to sign with an NBA team in the next 2-3 days, according to ESPN.com.
Fisher was used a lot more than almost anyone expected last year by Scott Brooks and we'd doubt he'd be able to play 20 minutes per game again. The 38-year-old guard can be left on the waiver wire in all leagues.

Tue Oct 16 201209:07Derek Fisher cleared to return to Lakers
Derek Fisher is eligible to re-sign with the Lakers, sources tell ESPN's Marc Stein.
Previously it was believed that Fisher could not re-sign with the Lakers until March because the team traded him last season, but the veteran PG has been cleared because he was bought out by the Rockets and entered "full-fledged free agency" in the offseason. However, there is nothing to suggest the Lakers are interested in Fisher currently, and there are several things that would need to happen in order for him to return.

Thu Sep 20 201209:29Brooks: Thunder could re-sign Derek Fisher
Scott Brooks said that the Thunder could re-sign unrestricted FA Derek Fisher.
"Everything is still fluid," he said. While Brooks is saying the door is still open, it's hard to imagine the team would bring him back with Eric Maynor (knee) now healthy and Reggie Jackson entering his second season. Fisher has been working out at both the Lakers and Clippers practice facilities, but that is not an indication of either team's interest.

Thu Sep 13 201208:46UFA Derek Fisher exploring all of his options
Unrestricted FA Derek Fisher has a "remote" chance of returning to the Thunder, a source tells Sports Illustrated.
In other words, Fisher isn't coming back to OKC, but that's what we all knew already with Eric Maynor (knee surgery) healthy and Reggie Jackson also in the fold. Fisher reportedly turned down a chance to back up Kirk Hinrich in Chicago before the Bulls signed Nate Robinson, and now he is weighing his options of signing with a non-contender or potentially waiting it out until mid-season. The 38-year-old shot 34.3 percent with the Thunder last year, the lowest mark of his career.

Mon Aug 27 201208:07Spurs could be a fit for UFA Derek Fisher?
Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio believes it wouldn't be a "surprise" to see unrestricted FA Derek Fisher sign with the Spurs.
San Antonio has Gary Neal, Patty Mills, Cory Joseph and Nando De Colo behind Tony Parker at point guard, so we're not sold that there is really a fit here as Amico seems to believe. It's a tad bit surprising Fisher hasn't had more of a market, but Fisher, now 38, shot just 34.3 percent after joining the Thunder last season. He may have to wait for a training camp injury to continue his career.

Fri Jul 6 201218:43Cavs showing interest in Derek Fisher
The Cavaliers are showing interest in free agent PG Derek Fisher.
There has been no meeting officially set, but the Cavs see Fisher as a potential backup for Rookie of the Year PG Kyrie Irving and could serve a good mentor to some of its other younger core players. He is very unlikely to have any fantasy relevance, no matter where he lands.

Thu Jul 5 201223:21Report: Nets the favorites for Derek Fisher
The Nets are reportedly the favorites to obtain the services of Derek Fisher.
Fisher hit a few shots, but he was mostly awful during the playoffs for Scott Brooks, who stood by his man regardless of how much it hurt the Thunder. The vet can probably help as an on-court coach, but he's a turnstile on defense and didn't show particularly good decision-making in the postseason.

Tue Jul 3 201210:29Bulls reach out to veteran PG Derek Fisher
The Bulls have contacted the representative for unrestricted free agent Derek Fisher.
Chicago will explore all of its options in the backup point guard market before making a decision on who to sign. The Chicago Tribune also reports that the team has kept an "open dialogue" with John Lucas III as well as their reported interest in Kirk Hinrich.

Tue Jun 12 201209:16Fisher a candidate to join Knicks next year?
The New York Post suggests Derek Fisher could be a fit for the Knicks next season.
Fisher will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. He'll be 38 in August, but has already said that he has no plans of retiring. It's conceivable the Knicks could consider Fisher as a veteran backup behind restricted free agent Jeremy Lin, but there has been nothing definitive to suggest New York's interest in Fisher to this point.

Tue May 29 201213:58Derek Fisher not planning on retiring
Derek Fisher has no plans to retire after the season.
Fisher, who will be 38 in August, plans to keep playing beyond this season. We wouldn't be surprised to see him latch onto a contender looking for a veteran point guard, but he's not expected to take on a major role regardless of where he lands.

Sun May 20 201201:50Thunder upset about 'slippery' Staples floor
Thunder players and personnel complained about the floor at Staples Center being slippery during Game 4 on Sunday, but the referees pronounced the court to be in safe playing condition.
The Los Angeles Kings played earlier in the day, but the standard floor-replacement procedure was followed and there's no conspiracy theory to espouse.

Fri Apr 27 201216:56U.S. Attorney to investigate NBPA Union
The United States Attorney's Office in Manhattan has opened an investigation of the NBA Players Association union.
In addition to The United States Attorney's Office investigation of the union, the union itself has appointed a six-member special committee that consists of players representatives and executive committee members to oversee an internal inquiry that will include a financial audit. Previous reports have shown Hunter employing nepotism by giving over $4.5 million of union business to family members. While it is not technically illegal, it is certainly not what the NBA needs heading into a very exciting playoffs.

Wed Apr 25 201216:46NBPA exec Billy Hunter accused of nepotism
In 2008-09, NBPA executive director reportedly Billy Hunter pushed hard for the union to invest at least $7 million in a failing bank on which his son sat on the board of directors.
That proposal eventually collapsed due to the U.S. banking crisis, but Hunter is still being accused of nepotism, as the union has also done $2.5 million in business with a consulting firm of which his son, Todd Hunter, is a vice president. The union also did business with a law firm employing Hunter's daughter, and another daughter and daughter-in-law have high-paying jobs within the NBPA. This might have been the reason Derek Fisher demanded another independent audit, but Hunter insists that there has been no illegal activity -- nepotism is unsavory but not explicitly outlawed by the NBPA charter. Hopefully this ugly in-fighting won't distract from the playoffs.
