Sun Nov 28 201017:57Rockies show interest in free agent Webb
The Rockies have expressed interest in free agent Brandon Webb, according to the Denver Post's Troy Renck.
Webb's sinker and Coors Field would be a match made in heaven, assuming the right-hander were healthy. Of course, the Rockies couldn't afford Webb if everyone were sure that he were healthy. They probably won't land him anyway, as a richer team will probably be able to offer more in the way of incentives.

Sun Nov 28 201013:10Report: Nationals talking to SP Webb
The Nationals are in talks with free agent Brandon Webb, sources told MLB.com's Bill Ladson.
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo drafted Webb in the 2000 draft when Rizzo was director of scouting with the Diamondbacks and the two have a strong relationship. Webb, who turns 32 in May, hasn't pitched in the majors since Opening Day of the 2009 season, but he's an obvious target for teams looking for a low-risk, high-reward type.

Sat Nov 27 201019:51Report: Cubs in talks with Webb
The Cubs are in talks with free agent Brandon Webb, sources told AOL Fanhouse's Ed Price.
Webb has also drawn the eyes of the Nationals, Dodgers, Pirates, Twins and Rangers. A reunion with the Diamondbacks hasn't been ruled out, but it seems unlikely. The Cubs would be smart to gamble on a high-upside arm to go along with their current five-man rotation of Ryan Dempster, Carlos Zambrano, Randy Wells, Carlos Silva and Tom Gorzelanny.

Wed Nov 17 201013:07Multiple teams interested in Brandon Webb
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Dodgers, Pirates, Twins and Rangers are interested in free agent right-hander Brandon Webb.
Crasnick sees Webb as a potential fallback if the Carl Pavano leaves via free agency. He also doesn't rule out the Nationals, Reds and Cardinals as possibilities. Webb, who turns 32 in May, hasn't pitched in the majors since Opening Day of the 2009 season, but he's an obvious target for teams looking for a low-risk/high-reward type.

Wed Nov 10 201014:41Nats, Dodgers interested in Brandon Webb
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Nationals and Dodgers are interested in free agent right-hander Brandon Webb.
Webb has been linked to the Nationals for a while now, but we haven't heard about the Dodgers previously. As of now, Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley and Ted Lilly are the only locks for the team's rotation, so they'll likely try to secure at least one more starter this winter. Webb is obviously a big question mark, but he could make some sense with a low guarantee and a boatload of incentives.

Fri Nov 5 201014:23Nats plan to pursue Brandon Webb this winter
Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that the Nationals plan to pursue free agent Brandon Webb this offseason.
Webb hasn't pitched in a major league game since the start of the 2009 season and showed pitiful velocity in a couple of bullpen sessions this fall. If he rebuilds the strength in his right arm and regains control of his sinker, he could make for a low-risk, high-reward signing for a Nationals team desperate for starting pitching. But a lot will have to go right.

Thu Nov 4 201009:30D-Backs haven't closed door on Webb returning
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said in a team press release Wednesday that the club hasn't closed the door on Brandon Webb returning next season.
"Although we have not entirely closed the door on Brandon returning to the D-backs next season, I understand the process he and his agent are going through at this time as a free agent," said Towers. "... We wish him continued success as he goes through this process." Webb's agent Jonathan Maurer said that his client hasn't given up on returning to Arizona, but added that several teams have already expressed interest. Webb, who turns 32 next May, hasn't pitched in the major leagues since Opening Day of the 2009 season.

Tue Nov 2 201022:45D-Backs not expected to re-sign Webb
According to Jack McGruder of FOXSportsArizona.com, the Diamondbacks haven't had any conversations with Brandon Webb in regards to a new contract and have no plans to initiate talks moving forward.
"If there was any interest, they would have known," a Diamondbacks' source told McGruder. Webb recently made three Instructional League appearances after spending the entire season rehabbing from shoulder surgery. Webb hasn't pitched in the major leagues since Opening Day of 2009. His career in Arizona is almost certainly over, but a number of teams will probably be willing to give him an incentive-laden deal this winter.

Fri Oct 8 201009:2321 teams watched Brandon Webb on Thursday
According to the Boston Herald, 21 major league teams were in attendance at Brandon Webb's instructional league appearance Thursday.
Webb allowed three hits, two walks and two runs over two innings of work, topping out at 85 MPH with his sinking fastball. He has a long way to go, but past success dictates that many teams will remain interested, or at least tuned into, his status throughout the winter. The impending free agent is expected to take the next few months off for rest and rehab.

Thu Oct 7 201022:15Webb will take the next few months off
Brandon Webb will take the next few months off.
The impending free agent allowed two runs on three hits during a two-inning instructional league appearance Thursday. He hit 85 MPH, which is an improvement, but he still has a long way to go before teams will begin thinking about offering him contracts. Webb, 31, hasn't thrown a pitch in a major league game since the first week of the 2009 season.

Thu Oct 7 201020:04Red Sox scouted Brandon Webb on Wednesday
Red Sox scouts were on hand for Brandon Webb's instructional league appearance Wednesday at Arizona's Chase Field.
Webb did not look good, allowing two runs, two walks and three hits over a two-inning outing. The 31-year-old right-hander will be a free agent this offseason and is hoping to be viewed as a high-risk, high-reward option. But first he'll have to take care of that high-reward part.

Thu Oct 7 201016:37Webb struggles again in instructional game
Brandon Webb gave up two runs over a two-inning appearance Thursday in the Diamondbacks' instructional league.
Webb allowed three hits and also walked two batters, again showing a lack of velocity on his sinking fastball. The impending free agent is trying to show interested teams that he is rehabbed and ready to contribute again as a big-league starter, but it's hard to buy at this point. Webb hasn't thrown a pitch in a major league game since the first week of the 2009 season.

Sat Oct 2 201017:36Webb hits 84 MPH in second instr. game
Brandon Webb hit 84 MPH in his second instructional league appearance.
Progress? The impending free agent still hasn't gained enough velocity and still isn't throwing an effective curveball, but he has a couple of months to work toward better results. Webb hasn't thrown a pitch in a major league game since the first week of the 2009 season.

Fri Oct 1 201020:36Nats sending scouts to watch Brandon Webb
According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, the Nationals are sending scouts to watch Brandon Webb pitch in the Instructional League.
They are expected to be in attendance when he throws Saturday and next Thursday. According to Ladson, Webb would be interested in signing with the Nationals if he doesn't return to the Diamondbacks. This sounds like par for the course with an impending free agent, but it's worth noting that Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo was the director of scouting with the Diamondbacks when Webb was selected in the eighth round of the 2000 draft.

Wed Sep 29 201017:23Webb looked 'alarmingly bad' in appearance
A scout told ESPN.com's Jason Grey that Brandon Webb looked "alarmingly bad" during his instructional league appearance Wednesday.
The scout said Webb topped out at 82 MPH with his fastball and "rolled" his curveball. His sinker and changeup showed good movement, but this is not a ringing endorsement for the impending free agent. A 22-game winner in 2008, he could struggle to find $5 million on the open market.

Wed Sep 29 201014:38Webb makes Instructional League appearance
Brandon Webb (shoulder) tossed a scoreless inning in his first appearance in the Instructional League on Wednesday.
He faced four batters in the 20-pitch frame, allowing a triple and retiring batters via two groundouts and a flyout. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic hears that he was clocked around 81 MPH. Assuming he bounces back without any problems, Webb is expected to pitch again Saturday. The former NL Cy Young will be a free agent this winter.

Mon Sep 27 201019:11Webb (shoulder) will not pitch this week
Brandon Webb (shoulder) will not make an appearance with the Diamondbacks this week.
He'll pitch in the Instructional League on Wednesday, instead. Webb hoped to get a few innings in with the major league club, but he could have done more harm than good with the adrenaline pumping. Webb will be a free-agent this winter, but will likely have to settle for a low-guarantee and a boatload of incentives.

Mon Sep 27 201011:15Webb could return to D'Backs on Tuesday
Brandon Webb (shoulder) could be ready to return Tuesday.
Webb threw a successful 35-pitch simulated game on Saturday and is hoping to register one or two major-league relief appearances before hitting the free agent market this offseason. A 22-game winner in 2008 with a career 3.27 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, he'll be a high-risk, high-reward option for interested clubs. Webb hasn't thrown a big-league pitch since April of 2009.

Sun Sep 26 201008:51Webb to meet with new GM Monday
Brandon Webb (shoulder) will meet with new GM Kevin Towers Monday to talk about whether he'll be making an appearance out of the D'backs bullpen before the end of the season.
Webb, who hasn't pitch since opening day in 2009, threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Saturday without any issues. He really hopes to get in at least one game before the year is out. "Hopefully, we can see eye to eye on it," the pending free agent said.

Wed Sep 22 201021:39Webb aiming to return to D'Backs next week
Brandon Webb (shoulder) threw another successful bullpen session Wednesday and is aiming to return next week.
Webb hasn't appeared in a major league game since the opening week of the 2009 season, but he is hoping to fit in a relief outing or two in order to showcase his health to other big league teams. The former ace will be a free agent this winter and may struggle to find a lucrative contract.
