Wed Jun 19 201320:37Jeanmar Gomez terrific in rehab start
Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) struck out four over five hitless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday.
He walked one batter, needing just 52 pitches to cover the five frames. Gomez allowed one earned run over three frames in his first rehab start. The righty appears to be ready to be activated and seems likely to return to the Pirates' rotation given the team's injuries.

Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
He's slated to throw four innings and/or 60 pitches. Out with a right forearm strain, Gomez shouldn't need much rehab time before being activated. Despite his success in the rotation, he seems likely to go back to a long relief role.

Mon Jun 3 201314:54Pirates place Jeanmar Gomez on 15-day DL
Pirates placed RHP Jeanmar Gomez on the 15-day disabled list with right forearm tightness.
Gomez suffered the injury in Sunday's win and will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. The decision to place him on the DL comes as no surprise, as he was expected to be replaced by Charlie Morton in the starting rotation.

Sun Jun 2 201314:09Jeanmar Gomez exits with forearm tightness
Jeanmar Gomez left Sunday's start against the Reds after one inning with right forearm tightness.
Gomez looked out of sorts in the first, allowing the first six to reach base while giving up four runs on four hits and a walk. He seems likely to be headed to the disabled list and was probably going to be replaced in the rotation next weekend by Charlie Morton, anyway.

Tue May 28 201323:47Gomez holds the Tigers scoreless over seven
Jeanmar Gomez threw seven scoreless innings to take a no-decision in the Pirates' extra-innings win over the Tigers on Tuesday.
It wasn't as sexy as opposing pitcher Rick Porcello's line, but it was equally as effective. Gomez held the Tigers to just three hits, all singles, and a walk in his seven innings of work. The right-hander quietly has a 2.30 ERA on the season, but he can continue to be largely ignored in the majority of fantasy leagues. His next start will come Sunday against the Reds.

Fri May 17 201322:55Gomez takes no-decision against Astros
Jeanmar Gomez was touched up for four runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Astros.
Gomez gave up one run over the first four innings, but the Astros got to him for three runs in the fifth before Clint Hurdle brought the hook. All told, he allowed five hits (including a solo homer by Matt Dominguez) and two walks while striking out just one. The 25-year-old still owns a 2.78 ERA over four starts and five relief appearances this session, but his 19/14 K/BB ratio isn't nearly as impressive. It's tough to get excited about him in fantasy leagues.

Fri May 17 201308:58Jeanmar Gomez's calf not an issue
Jeanmar Gomez's left calf is no longer an issue.
Gomez left his start on Sunday with tightness in the calf, but he's fine now. He's pitched well since moving into the Pirates' rotation and isn't a bad streaming option on Friday against the Astros. Gomez should remain in the rotation until Charlie Morton (elbow) returns from the DL early next month.

Jeanmar Gomez left Sunday's start against the Meta with left calf tightness.
Gomez allowed just a run on two hits and a walk over five innings, but calf forced him from the game after 65 pitches. It's not clear at this point whether it might affect his ability to take the ball the next time out.

Wed May 8 201311:00Gomez to start Sunday vs. Mets
Jeanmar Gomez will start Sunday against the Mets.
Gomez started in place of James McDonald on Tuesday night against the Mariners and tossed five shutout innings, so the Pirates will keep him in the rotation for now. He's unlikely to have much fantasy value.

Tue May 7 201322:46Jeanmar Gomez looks good in spot start
Making a spot start in place of the injured James McDonald, Jeanmar Gomez tossed five shutout innings to earn the win in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Mariners.
Gomez gave up just two singles, walked two and struck out five in an outing that was about all the Pirates could have hoped for. The right-hander holds a 2.38 ERA and 1.28 WHIP for the season now and has surely earned another start. It will come on Sunday against the Mets.

Wed May 1 201316:43Jeanmar Gomez allows three runs in spot start
Jeanmar Gomez pitched four innings and allowed three runs -- two earned -- Wednesday in his spot start against the Brewers.
He kept the Pirates in the game, which is all that they were asking him to do. Gomez figures to return to the bullpen this weekend with Francisco Liriano on the way back from the disabled list soon.

Mon Apr 29 201317:31Gomez to start Wednesday vs. Brewers
Jeanmar Gomez will start Wednesday against the Brewers.
In turn, the Pirates have moved Jonathan Sanchez to the bullpen. Gomez owns a 5.02 ERA in the majors and will likely make just one start with Francisco Liriano (arm) nearing his return, so he isn't worth adding in fantasy leagues.

Sun Apr 28 201312:15Jeanmar Gomez might start in Sanchez's place
Jeanmar Gomez could start Wednesday against the Brewers in place of Jonathan Sanchez.
Gomez came on in relief Friday after Sanchez was ejected before recording an out and allowed three runs over 4 1/3 innings. Sanchez is appealing the suspension, but the Pirates aren't interested in giving him the ball again. Gomez will likely just make the one start with Francisco Liriano (arm) slated to join the rotation next week.
