Tue May 13 201400:30Tyler Lyons pounded for nine runs
Tyler Lyons was lit up for nine runs in four innings by the Cubs on Monday.
The Cardinals didn't want to go to the pen early in this one, so they left Lyons in as long as they could. Unfortunately, he still wasn't able to give them any length. His ERA jumped from 3.43 to 6.12 in the game, and it's likely that he'll take that number with him back to Triple-A. The Cardinals are going to need to add a fresh arm or two, and they can activate Jaime Garcia to replace Lyons in the rotation this weekend.

Tue May 6 201421:57Lyons fans seven in no-decision vs. Braves
Tyler Lyons struck out seven while allowing one run over six innings in a no-decision against the Braves on Tuesday.
Lyons' only mistake on the evening was a changeup that Justin Upton hit roughly 600 feet. Otherwise, Lyons was on the verge of dominant, allowing just three hits and a walk in his six innings of work. The Cardinals offense couldn't get him a win for his efforts, so he remains 0-2 with a 3.43 ERA over 21 innings. With Joe Kelly's setback, Lyons will remain in the rotation, facing the Cubs on Monday.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Tuesday that the team is leaning towards skipping Tyler Lyons' next turn in the rotation.
Lyons had been due to pitch Friday, but he'll be available out of the bullpen starting Tuesday. Depending on how quickly Joe Kelly (hamstring) can recover, it's possible Lyons won't be needed for another start.

The Cardinals could have used Thursday's off day to skip the fifth spot in their rotation but will instead give Lyons one more turn before welcoming back Joe Kelly (hamstring) from the disabled list. Lyons has a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings (two starts) since his April 21 promotion.

Sun Apr 20 201412:08Tyler Lyons to start on Monday for Cards
Tyler Lyons will start on Monday against the Mets.
The writing had been on the wall, and Cardinals manager Mike Matheny made it official Sunday morning. As long as he performs, Lyons will make at least two starts while Joe Kelly (hamstring) is on the DL. If Kelly's absence drags out longer, the club could consider giving Carlos Martinez a shot. Lyons holds a 3.32 ERA with 18 strikeouts over his first 19 Triple-A frames this season.

Thu Apr 17 201418:26Tyler Lyons likely to start Monday for Cards
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated Thursday that the team is likely to being up a pitcher from Triple-A Memphis to start on Monday in place of the injured Joe Kelly (hamstring).
That almost surely means it will be Tyler Lyons that gets the call. Matheny did add that if it looks like Kelly will be sidelined for a while, Carlos Martinez would then become an option. For now, though, they're leaving Martinez in the bullpen. Lyons is a fine stop-gap option, having put up a 4.75 ERA (3.73 FIP) in 12 appearances -- eight starts -- for the Cardinals in 2013, striking out 43 batters in 53 innings.

Mon Mar 17 201416:12Tyler Lyons gives up five runs to Red Sox
Tyler Lyons was pounded for five runs in 1 1/3 innings by the Red Sox on Monday.
Lyons has pitched his way out of the rotation mix by giving up 13 runs in eight innings this spring. There probably won't be room for him in the pen, either, but that's fine; it makes more sense to have him start games in Triple-A.

Thu Mar 13 201416:41Tyler Lyons limited to one inning in relief
Tyler Lyons, one of the candidates for the fifth spot in the St. Louis rotation, pitched just an inning in relief Thursday against the Braves.

Mon Mar 10 201417:00Tyler Lyons gives up seven runs in relief
Tyler Lyons was lit up for seven runs in two-thirds of an inning by the Tigers on Monday.
Lyons was played up as a rotation candidate after Jaime Garcia's setback, in part because the Cardinals would still like to have a lefty starter. However, while he might be decent enough as a No. 5, he doesn't have Joe Kelly's track record or Carlos Martinez's talent. Getting crushed today certainly didn't help his chances any.

Tyler Lyons yielded four runs -- one earned -- in five innings versus the Reds on Monday.
Lyons couldn't pitch around Daniel Descalso's error in the second, giving up two triples, walking one and hitting another before finishing the inning. Apart from that, he kept the Reds very quiet, striking out seven batters. It'll keep him in the rotation for now, and he makes plenty of sense in NL-only leagues.

Tyler Lyons was charged with four runs -- three earned -- over six innings in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates.
He gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out five.
