He'll take a 6-6 record and 4.93 ERA with him next week when he battles the Rockies at home on Wednesday. |

Sun Jun 3 2012 | 16:34 | Joe Blanton hit hard again in loss |
Joe Blanton allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings of Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Marlins. |
Blanton was actually relatively efficient through six innings of work, but allowed the first four batters he faced in the seventh inning to reach base. He was pulled without recording an out, and charged with three runs. After some strong pitching to end April and begin May, Blanton has now turned in four straight non-quality starts, allowing at least five runs every time out. He's a matchup play, and a poor one at that, in mixed leagues. |

Thu May 3 2012 | 16:47 | Joe Blanton hurls three-hit shutout |
Joe Blanton recorded his first shutout since 2007 with a three-hitter Thursday against the Braves. |
The Braves managed 15 runs against Roy Halladay and company on Wednesday and then settled for three singles against Blanton today. Blanton walked none and faced just two batters over the minimum in his third career shutout. He hadn't even pitched a complete game in five years. Don't look at this as a sign of things to come, but there's no reason he can't be a pretty good NL-only pitcher this season. |

Joe Blanton yielded six runs -- three earned -- over six innings in a loss to the Padres Sunday. |
It's a disappointing result for Blanton as he was part of a sloppy game at Petco. He gave up seven hits while striking out just two and walking two. This comes after the light-hitting Giants knocked around Blanton for 11 hits over five innings last Tuesday. It's hard to get excited about him for a home start against the Cubs next time out. |

Joe Blanton gave up four runs and 11 hits in five innings Tuesday against the Giants. |
Blanton may prove to be a decent enough fifth or sixth starter in NL-only leagues, but he'll have nights like this when he's hit around pretty good. We'd like him a little more if the Phillies offense wasn't in such decline. |

Thu Mar 22 2012 | 10:44 | Report: Phils less motivated to trade Blanton |
CBSSports' Danny Knobler reports that the Phillies are "less motivated" to trade Joe Blanton. |
We've heard plenty of trade chatter in regard to Blanton this month, but Knobler hears that Phils are less inclined to move him after releasing non-roster invitee Joel Pineiro. Kyle Kendrick looms as an in-house alternative and the Phillies could possibly make a run at Roy Oswalt, so they do have some options. Then again, Blanton has looked pretty good so far this spring, so they may be content to keep him around. |

The Phillies are reportedly shopping him with the idea of either sliding Kyle Kendrick into the rotation or possibly making a play to bring back Roy Oswalt. |

According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, the Red Sox and Orioles had scouts in attendance for Joe Blanton's third start of the spring on Thursday. |
The Blue Jays are also thought to have some interest. Blanton missed most of the 2011 season due to an elbow injury, but the 31-year-old right-hander has enjoyed a healthy spring thus far and would make a fine addition to the back end of just about any major league rotation. He has a 4.32 career ERA and a 1.35 career WHIP. |

Sun Mar 11 2012 | 09:00 | Phils willing to eat $2M of Blanton's deal |
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Phillies would "love" to trade Joe Blanton and are prepared to eat as much as $2 million of the remaining $8.5 million on his contract. |
Cafardo says the Phils would just slide Kyle Kendrick into the rotation, but we wouldn't rule out them re-signing Roy Oswalt if Blanton is dealt. The Blue Jays are rumored to have interest in acquiring Blanton, who missed most of the 2011 season with an elbow injury but appears to be healthy now. |

Mon Mar 5 2012 | 16:32 | Joe Blanton goes two scoreless innings |
Joe Blanton worked a pair of scoreless innings in his start against the Yankees on Monday. |
Blanton, who missed most of 2011 with elbow problems, could be a trade candidate if he shows he's healthy this spring. The Phillies have him penciled in as their fifth starter, but if they could shed his salary, it'd give them more flexibility to make trades this summer or maybe even lead to a Roy Oswalt re-signing. |

Sun Feb 19 2012 | 17:49 | Blanton (elbow) says he's healthy |
Joe Blanton (elbow) said he's experienced no discomfort with the injury thus far. |
"I didn't really stop throwing throughout the winter," Blanton said. "I haven't had any problems. I threw in instructional league after the season was over. I made two starts and didn't have any problems. So I'm very optimistic I'll be able to stay healthy all year." The Phillies unsuccessfully shopped Blanton this offseason, ostensibly to open enough money to re-sign Roy Oswalt. Blanton, 31, posted a 5.01 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 41 1/3 innings last season while fighting elbow issues. He's penciled in as the club's fifth starter. |
