Sun Feb 24 201321:08John Salmons sinks career-high six 3-pointers
John Salmons drained a career-high six 3-pointers on his way to 18 points in Sunday's loss in New Orleans.
He added three rebounds, three assists and a block in 37 minutes of action, his highest playing time in over a month. The Kings have now lost five straight games, during which they're allowing an unholy 113.4 points per game, and Keith Smart said after Friday's game that Sacramento would have won "if we even gave half of a defensive effort." DeMarcus Cousins also chimed in, turning conventional basketball wisdom on its head by saying, "I do believe our offense carries our defense." No matter how you parse it, the Kings have the 5th-worst record in the league.

Mon Feb 11 201300:27John Salmons hangs 23 on Rockets Sunday
John Salmons shot 6-of-14 from the field and made all seven free throws in a win over the Rockets, scoring 23 points with one rebound, six assists, two steals and four 3-pointers on Sunday.
He hit a huge corner triple which put the Kings up for good and his defense has been improved over the past few games. Salmons is a little too inconsistent for standard leagues even though he's played 30.0 minutes per game in his last five contests.

John Salmons (illness) returned to action on Friday, scoring two points on 1-of-7 shooting with three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 33 minutes.
It totally makes sense for a bottom-barrel team facing relocation threats to play the ineffective 33-year old Salmons at the expense of younger talent. And by 'makes sense' we mean an apparent attempt to drive Kings fans further into depression.

Mon Jan 28 201318:01John Salmons out Monday w/ illness
John Salmons will not play on Monday due to a virus.
Marcus Thornton or Francisco Garcia will replace him in the starting lineup and with any luck this will give Thornton the spark he's been lacking, with January averages of just 8.2 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 17 minutes per game.

Mon Jan 21 201316:18John Salmons awful again in loss to Hornets
John Salmons scored five points in 29 minutes on Monday, shooting 1-of-4 from the field with four assists and one steal.
He's still getting heavy minutes, but he's now averaging just 5.0 points in his past three games. According to Synergy Sports data, Salmons accounts for a heavy portion of the Kings' isolation and spot-up opportunities this season, but he's noticeably absent in pick-and-rolls, cuts, and in transition -- there are better options on most waiver wires.

Sat Jan 19 201322:20John Salmons awful quiet in Saturday's win
John Salmons started at SF but finished Saturday's game with just four points, one assist and three turnovers in 26 minutes of action.
This highlights the peril of relying on Salmons in fantasy leagues, and his production has nowhere to go but down now that guys like Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton are finally healthy. He's been a late-middle round option while playing over 30 minutes per game for the past month, but his streak could be slowing to a halt.

Sat Jan 19 201300:39Salmons scores six points vs. Grizzlies
John Salmons scored six points on 3-of-6 shooting (no threes) with four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks on Friday against the Grizzlies.
Salmons logged 31 minutes and for some reason is the second or third ball-handler in this offense, behind Tyreke Evans and sometimes behind DeMarcus Cousins. This puts him in a prime position to put up numbers like he had on Wednesday (21 points), but his consistency is a total mess because more Salmons usually means less production from the Kings in general.

Thu Jan 17 201301:34John Salmons scores 21 points in start
John Salmons started again at small forward on Wednesday and went off for 21 points, four rebounds, two assists, a steal and two 3-pointers in 22 minutes.
Salmons had a zero-point dud on Saturday, but has scored in double figures six of his past seven games. And despite the return of Tyreke Evans, who is playing very well, Salmons may just stay relevant in fantasy. He's averaging 12.6 points, 3.0 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.8 3-pointers on 44 percent shooting over his last five, meaning he's still worth owning in many leagues.

Tue Jan 8 201302:44Salmons scores 17 points on 7-of-12 FGs
John Salmons scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting (including three treys) with zero rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 30 minutes on Monday against the Grizzlies.
Congratulations if you were able to milk the recent value out of Salmons, but with Marcus Thornton returning soon and a poor man's Scott Skiles running things -- owners should be very skeptical about his long-term value.

Sat Jan 5 201301:16Salmons scores 20 points against TOR
John Salmons scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting (including a three) with two rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 35 minutes on Friday.
Salmons chilled out a bit on the ball-stopping that has characterized his tenure as the Kings' currently appointed point guard, putting him about halfway from where he was to where he needs to be as an effective offensive player. With Tyreke Evans targeting Monday for a return, his blend of low-end numbers is likely to take a hit real soon.

Tue Jan 1 201322:29John Salmons scores 10 with six assists
John Salmons made another start in place of injured Tyreke Evans (knee) and had 10 points, six assists, a steal and two 3-pointers on 4-of-9 shooting Tuesday.
Salmons is averaging 15 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 2,0 3-pointers over his last five games, and is worth a pickup for as long as Evans remains out with his balky knee.

Sat Dec 29 201204:48Salmons scores eight points vs. Knicks
John Salmons scored eight points on 3-of-9 shooting (including two threes) with one rebound, three assists, two steals, and two blocks in 29 minutes on Friday against the Knicks.
Salmons has been putting up inconsistent low-end numbers over the past few weeks, but is one of the main problems on both sides of the ball for the Kings. A ball-stopper on offense that lacks effort on defense, he also gets to look forward to Tyreke Evans' return as soon as Sunday.

Thu Dec 27 201202:47John Salmons scores 19 points in start
John Salmons started again on Wednesday and had 19 points, two rebounds, four assists, a steal and three 3-pointers on 6-of-10 shooting.
Salmons has been starting since Nov. 18 and is averaging 12.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, a steal and a 3-pointer over his last five games, making him worth a look in most leagues. Just keep in mind he'll likely take a hit once Tyreke Evans returns from his knee injury.

Sun Dec 23 201223:38Salmons posts 15/7/7 in win over Blazers
John Salmons made another start at SF in Sunday's win over the Blazers, and he racked up 15 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 32 minutes.
The veteran swingman hasn't scored double-digit points in consecutive games all season, he's averaging 0.8 threes and 0.5 steals in over 31 minutes in December, and Tyreke Evans' return could disrupt his role as a starter. In other words, this nice line should be viewed with skepticism.
