Sat Jun 9 201200:25Everth Cabrera hits inside-the-parker in loss
Everth Cabrera benefited from an ill-timed dive from center fielder Carlos Gomez, leading to an inside-the-park home run in Friday's loss to the Brewers.
Cabrera finished the night 2-for-3 with a walk, a pair of runs scored and two RBI. He's done a nice job since taking over as the Padres primary shortstop, hitting .275 with two homers, five RBI and four steals in just 69 at-bats. Those in deeper mixed leagues who are chasing steals would be wise to give Cabrera a look.

Fri May 18 201210:15Everth Cabrera will go to trial
Everth Cabrera's legal team has rejected a plea deal and a trial for an alleged misdemeanor assault upon his wife has been set for June 11.
"Mr. Cabrera loves his wife and is committed to being a devoted family man. ... We strongly believe our client will prevail at trial," Cabrera's lawyer, Richard Suzuki said. The Padres happen to have an off day on June 11, so Cabrera, who is currently serving as the team's starter at shortstop, might not have to miss a game.

Fri May 11 201209:57Everth Cabrera was arrested for assault
Everth Cabrera has a pretrial conference next Thursday regarding a domestic violence charge of misdemeanor assault, which was levied on the infielder on March 16.
It sounds like the Padres only recently became aware of the charges against the shortstop. Cabrera, who is batting .325 this season with 13 stolen bases for Triple-A Tucson, might have been in line for a promotion to replace Jason Bartlett soon, but the Padres will now hold off until his legal issues are sorted out. "We're looking at our options to see where we can improve our roster," GM Josh Byrnes said. "As it pertains to Everth, we want to be aware of his legal issues. We just have to be aware of it and we'll act accordingly."

Wed Apr 4 201203:46Padres option INF Cabrera back to Triple-A
Padres optioned INF Everth Cabrera to Triple-A Tucson.
One of the team's final two roster cuts, Cabrera looked overmatched this spring, compiling a .210/.258/.290 batting line with 14 strikeouts. With major league stints in each of the past three seasons, don't be surprised if he returns to the big club at some point this year.

Sun Jul 17 201122:53Cabrera could be demoted on Monday
Everth Cabrera could be demoted on Monday by the Padres.
It would amount to a one-day stay with San Diego. Cabrera was called up on Sunday because Jason Bartlett is on the paternity leave list. Bartlett's wife Kelly gave birth to the couple's second child Sunday and he is expected to rejoin the Padres in Florida Tuesday. Cabrera went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run in Sunday's game. Cabrera, 24, hit .305 with Triple-A Tucson with two homers, 13 RBI, 23 steals and 12 errors in 45 games.

Everth Cabrera (hand) is hoping to resume playing in minor league games within the next two weeks.

Mon May 2 201119:48Cabrera to miss six weeks with hamate bone
Everth Cabrera is expected to miss six weeks with a fractured hamate bone in his right hand.
Cabrera was batting .282/.345/.379 with one homer, seven RBI and 10 stolen bases in 14 chances over his first 22 games with Triple-A Tucson this season. The 24-year-old shortstop previously fractured the hamate bone in his left hand back in 2009.

Mon Mar 28 201122:02Cabrera optioned to Triple-A Tucson
Padres optioned INF Everth Cabrera to Triple-A Tucson.
An expected move after Monday's addition of Alberto Gonzalez. Cabrera was disappointed to be left off the Opening Day roster, but he's better off playing every day in the minors, anyway.

Mon Mar 28 201120:29Cabrera will not be on Opening Day roster
Updating a previous report, Padres manager Bud Black did not tell Everth Cabrera that he will be on the Opening Day roster.
We heard earlier in the day Monday that he did make the team, but that's apparently not the case. After the acquisition of Alberto Gonzalez, Cabrera will begin the year with Triple-A Tucson.

Mon Mar 28 201112:24Cabrera to open season with big league team
Everth Cabrera will open the season in the majors.
Cabrera probably would have been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma this week had Eric Patterson not come down with a hamstring injury. The light-hitting Cabrera will serve as a rarely used backup middle infielder.

Wed Dec 15 201018:38Cabrera may begin 2011 at Triple-A
Padres GM Jed Hoyer hinted Wednesday that shortstop Everth Cabrera might begin the 2011 season at Triple-A.
Seems like a no-brainer move, especially if the Padres finalize that trade for Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett. Cabrera batted just .208/.279/.278 for the Padres in 2010 and may only have a future as a utility infielder. He was forced home from winter ball this offseason due to a hamstring injury.

Sat Nov 6 201019:27Padres' Cabrera exits winter ball
Everth Cabrera has returned home from playing winter ball because of a sore hamstring.
Cabrera could have used a strong winter to put himself back in San Diego's plans for 2011. He's probably looking at starting the year in Triple-A after hitting .208/.279/.278 in 212 at-bats this season.

Sat Aug 21 201016:53Padres option Everth Cabrera to Triple-A
Padres optioned SS Everth Cabrera to Triple-A Portland.
It's been a long time coming. Cabrera opened this season as the Padres' starting shortstop but has seen dwindling playing time since the acquisition of Miguel Tejada and should do well with everyday starts down on the farm. The 23-year-old will leave behind a .205/.279/.282 batting line.
Sun Aug 1 201008:24Cabrera could be sent down
Everth Cabrera could be a roster casualty with the Padres' acquisition of Ryan Ludwick.
Cabrera is hitting under .200, and with the acquisition of Miguel Tejada, his playing time is due to be severely cut. The Pads could use Oscar Salazar as a backup at shortstop and send down Cabrera, who has options remaining. Other players who could be trimmed from the roster include Will Venable, Scott Hairston and Matt Stairs.

Sun Jul 11 201019:00Padres' Cabrera smacks two-run homer
Everth Cabrera smacked a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning as the Padres beat the Rockies 9-7 today.
The Padres were up 7-6 at the time of Cabrera's homer, but Heath Bell allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth and Cabrera's blast ended up being the difference. The homer was Cabrera's first in 141 at-bats this season, but the true disappointment here is his .199 batting average. The tools are there for Cabrera to turn into a mixed league starter, but he's still a ways away from hitting north of .260 or posting an on-base percentage high enough to score many runs.
Fri Jul 9 201012:41Padres' Cabrera struggles since return
Everth Cabrera is batting just .133 (4-for-30) since returning from the disabled list on June 25.
He is currently in an 0-for-12 funk and is batting just .063 (1-for-16) in six games this month, dropping his batting average to .194 for the year. The Padres have shown an incredible amount of patience with their 23-year-old shortstop, but fantasy owners can safely cut him loose, if they haven't already. Cabrera has elite speed potential, but he's basically worthless if he can't make it to first base.
Fri Jun 25 201015:25Padres activate SS Cabrera
Padres activated shortstop Everth Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list.
We're not sure whether Cabrera's return qualifies as good news for the Padres. He's hit just .212/.257/.283 in 99 at-bats this season. He probably belongs in Double-A right now. That said, he does offer more range than Jerry Hairston Jr. at shortstop. The Padres will give him one more chance before deciding whether to look for an upgrade.
Thu Jun 24 201011:27Padres' Cabrera to be activated on Friday
Everth Cabrera (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list for Friday's game against the Marlins.
Cabrera was 3-for-10 with an RBI and a stolen base over a three-game minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Portland. The Padres will announce a roster move before Friday's game.

Wed Jun 23 201020:44Cabrera plays third rehab game at Triple-A
Everth Cabrera (hamstring) played his third minor league rehab game for Triple-A Portland on Wednesday.
Cabrera has missed 41 total games this season and spent two different stints on the disabled list due to hamstring trouble. It sounds like he could be activated on Thursday and hop into the Padres' lineup immediately.
