Lewis will start the Rangers' Cactus League opener Wednesday against the Royals, Anthony Andro of FOX Sports Southwest reports. |
The 35-year-old Lewis will look to begin 2015 on the right foot after struggling to a 5.18 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 170.1 innings last season. He will start opposite Aaron Brooks but will likely only toss a couple innings, with Yovani Gallardo, Lisaverto Bonilla and Chi Chi Gonzalez all scheduled to pitch for Texas as well. |

Lewis agreed to a one-year deal with the Rangers on Thursday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. |
Lewis failed to come to terms with the Rangers on a contract extension, but the team will bring him back on a short-term deal. The right-hander made 29 starts for the Rangers in 2014, posting a 4.29 ERA and 6.9 K/9 over 170.1 innings. The 35-year-old should be able to earn a back-end rotation spot in 2015. |

Lewis will test free agency after failed extension negotiations with the Rangers, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. |
Lewis led the league in losses and experienced a massive step back recovering from a hip injury that cost him the 2013 season. Lewis could still have upside, as he was solid between 2010 and 2012 with the Rangers, with a 3.93 ERA in 506.1 innings. At worst, Lewis is a below-average innings eater going forward, so he could be attractive to a rebuilding team looking to fill out its major league rotation. |

Despite allowing 11 baserunners (six hits, five walks) in seven innings Thursday, Lewis limited the Athletics to just one run. He struck out seven and received no decision in the eventual win. |
The Rangers ended up winning via walk-off, but that didn't help Lewis any. After missing all of last season due to injury, he made 29 starts this year, but finished with a 5.18 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, ugly numbers that make his situation for next season rather uncertain. Only five pitchers in the American League have allowed more hits this year than Lewis's 211 in 170.1 innings, and all five of them have pitched more than 200 innings. |

Lewis got hammered for eight runs- seven earned- in five innings in Saturday's loss to the Angels. He gave up nine hits and a walk and struck out three. |
The loss snapped the Rangers' season-best seven-game winning streak and added to the Angels' league-leading record. In his past four starts against the Angels, Lewis is 0-4 with a 11.51 ERA. He'll take the mound for his last start of the season on Thursday at home against the Oakland A's. |

Lewis worked seven strong innings in Sunday's 10-3 victory over the Braves, allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out two. |
Lewis extends his recent run of solid pitching, as he has become a bit of a workhorse for the injury plagued Rangers. Having now turned in at least seven innings in four consecutive starts, the veteran hurler has posted a 3.30 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 18:3 K:BB ratio across his last 30 frames. Lewis will be back on the bump Saturday versus the Angels. |

Lewis gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with zero walks and four strikeouts in seven innings Tuesday against the Angels. |
It was an excellent start by Lewis, but in keeping with the lack of fairness this season for the Rangers, he was handed his 13th loss for his efforts. Lewis has managed to steadily lower his ERA since an 11-run outing spiked it to 6.54 in early July, but there's a good chance he'll still finish the season with an ERA north of 5.00, which will make him an extremely cheap option on draft day in 2015. He'll take the mound again Sunday against the Braves. |

Lewis will have his next start bumped to Tuesday with Texas shifting to a six-man rotation this week, the Dallas Morning News reports. |
Derek Holland will start Sunday's game on regular rest, affording Lewis extra rest between starts. |

Lewis gave up four runs on nine hits with a walk and five strikeouts Monday in a loss to the Royals. |
Lewis has allowed four or more runs in five straight outings and while he's done a good job eating innings for the Rangers, the results have been poor. The league is hitting .314 with 20 home runs off the right-hander this season. It's unclear when Lewis will pitch next with Derek Holland re-joining the rotation Tuesday from the disabled list. |

Lewis struck out seven and walked one while giving up four runs on seven hits in a complete game victory over Seattle on Wednesday. |
The Rangers put 10 runs on Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez, enabling Lewis to pitch with a huge lead Wednesday afternoon. The elder statesman in the injury ravaged Texas rotation, Lewis is currently serving as the team's ace with Yu Darvish (elbow) unlikely to return before the end of the season. He'll line up for two starts next week, first against the Royals in Kansas City on Monday before a second turn Saturday at home against Seattle. |

Lewis struck out a pair and allowed four runs on six hits over six innings in a loss to the Royals on Friday night. |
Yordano Ventura was very sharp for the Royals on Friday night, erasing Lewis' chances for the victory in a game where he failed to turn in a quality start. The Rangers will continue to give the ball to Lewis every fifth day as they play out the string, while his next outing is scheduled for Wednesday against the Mariners at Safeco Field. |

Lewis fanned 10, but allowed five runs on 10 hits over six innings against the Angels on Saturday night in a losing effort. |
The five runs were the most that Lewis has allowed in a start since coughed up 11 against the Halos in his final start before the All-Star break on July 10. Lewis is lined up to face the Royals on Friday in Arlington for his next scheduled start. |

Lewis was hurt by subpar defense Monday, allowing five runstwo earnedin five innings Monday. |
Lewis has nobody to blame but himself, committing an error and walking four in the losing effort. The veteran had been coming off three strong starts before Monday. Lewis sees the Angels this weekend. |

Lewis pitched a complete-game shutout against the White Sox on Tuesday, giving up just six hits and one walk, while striking out seven batters to improve to 8-8 on the year. |
In a season that has gone terribly wrong, it was nice to see Lewis pitch his best game of the year Tuesday. Lewis still has an ERA (5.50) well north of five and an unsightly 1.65 WHIP, although to his credit, he has now tossed three-straight quality starts. His next start is scheduled for Monday at home against Tampa Bay. |

Lewis picked up the win against the Yankees on Wednesday to improve to 7-8. He allowed two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out four over seven innings of work. |
Lewis retired the final 13 batters he faced, going a season-long seven innings to beat the Yankees The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Lewis, who has rebounded quite nicely after his disastrous 13-run (11 earned runs) outing against the Angels on July 10. Since that brutal start, Lewis has put up a 3.44 ERA over 18.1 innings. He'll travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox in his next scheduled start. |
Wed Jul 30 2014 | 23:08 | Colby Lewis holds Yankees to two runs |
Colby Lewis yielded two runs in seven innings Wednesday in a win over the Yankees. |
It looked like this would be a high-scoring game after Brett Gardner led off the first with a homer and the Rangers came through with three in the bottom of the inning against Hiroki Kuroda, but it ended up being a 3-2 Rangers win. Lewis allowed just four hits, two of them being solo shots (the other belonged to Jacoby Ellsbury). It was Lewis's first win since July 5, but he has pitched decently in three straight starts after giving up 13 runs in his final outing before the break. He probably still doesn't have much trade value right now should the Rangers decide to cash him in. |

Sat Jul 19 2014 | 16:49 | Lewis allows two runs in loss to Blue Jays |
Colby Lewis fell to 6-7 after allowing two runs over five innings Saturday against the Blue Jays. |
Both runs scored in the fourth inning. Lewis gave up eight hits and three walks (one of them intentional), so needed 106 pitches just to get out of the fifth inning. Still, he'll take it after he was pounded for 11 runs over just 2 1/3 innings in his final start before the All-Star break. Lewis will bring an ugly 6.37 ERA into a start against the Yankees next week at Yankee Stadium. He remains a poor bet in fantasy leagues. |

Thu Jul 10 2014 | 23:41 | Lewis reamed by the Angels for 13 runs |
Colby Lewis was demolished by the Angels' lineup on Thursday, allowing 13 runs (11 earned) in 2 1/3 innings, resulting in a loss. |
Lewis entered the start with a 5.51 ERA, which was ugly enough, but it took a serious beating on Thursday. The right-hander surrendered 13 hits and struck out only one, but at least he didn't issue a walk. Lewis, tattered, heads into the All-Star break with a 6.54 ERA, a 1.82 WHIP, and a 73/26 K/BB ratio. |

Sat Jul 5 2014 | 22:31 | Colby Lewis yields three runs but Rangers win |
Colby Lewis held the Mets to three runs -- two earned -- over seven innings Saturday in a Rangers win. |
Lewis wasn't exactly steady, but he didn't walk a batter and worked well around eight New York hits. The right-hander struck out seven. He'll take a 6-5 record, 5.51 ERA, and 1.77 WHIP into his next scheduled outing at home against the Angels. The Rangers have won just three out of their last 17 games. |

Wed Jun 25 2014 | 00:05 | Lewis runs into trouble in seventh vs. Tigers |
Colby Lewis dodged bullets for most of the night until a five-run seventh inning saddled him with a loss against the Tigers on Tuesday. |
Lewis was responsible for three of the five runs in the frame, as he allowed four runs in total over his 6 1/3 innings of work. The loss was his first in the month of June, but that was due more to stellar run support than anything Lewis was doing on the mound. The right-hander has a 5.94 ERA and 1.82 WHIP through 13 starts, and he remains a non-factor outside of deep AL-only leagues. |
