Fri Sep 17 202108:41Joey Gallo Goes Yard Thursday
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo belted his 35th homer of the year in Thursday's loss to the Orioles. Gallo gave New York a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a 101.8 MPH, 363 MPH blast, which was a bit muted by his Statcast standards. Still, the slugger has now homered four times in the last week and seems poised to finish the season strong for both the Yankees and his fantasy managers. Up next is a favorable matchup against Cleveland. Gallo owns a 1.023 OPS with six homers in 13 career games against the Indians.

Wed Sep 15 202118:33Joey Gallo Isn't Starting On Wednesday
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo will begin Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles and left-hander John Means on the bench. The 27-year-old is batting .199 with a .355 on-base percentage, 34 home runs, and six stolen bases in 563 plate appearances this season. Aaron Judge, who started Tuesday's game in center field, is moving back to right field in place of Gallo. Brett Gardner is batting eighth and starting in center field on Wednesday. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming help in the outfield. The 37-year-old is hitting .220 with a .331 on-base percentage, eight home runs, and three stolen bases in 395 plate appearances this year.

Mon Sep 13 202118:11Joey Gallo Belts 33rd Homer
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 6-5 win over the Twins Monday. Gallo was just 3-for-30 in September coming into the game, so his two-hit effort was a much-needed one. The slugger crushed his home run at 110.2 MPH, as he continues to hit the ball hard when he makes contact. Unfortunately, he hasn't been doing a lot of that lately, as evidenced by his 42.1 percent strikeout rate and 58.2 percent contact rate since September 1. Gallo's finish to the season will hinge upon him improving on those numbers because the power ability is always there with him.

Sat Sep 11 202117:44Joey Gallo On The Bench Saturday
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo isn't starting against the New York Mets and right-hander Taijuan Walker on Saturday. Gallo is batting .136 with a .301 on-base percentage and seven home runs in 163 plate appearances since being acquired in a trade from the Texas Rangers. The Yankees are starting Giancarlo Stanton, Brett Gardner, and Aaron Judge from left to right in the outfield against the Mets. Stanton and Judge are rostered in most leagues leaving Gardner as the only potential outfield streaming option for fantasy managers. The veteran is batting .219 with a .332 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and three stolen bases in 382 plate appearances this season. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for outfield help on Saturday.

Sat Sep 4 202117:41Joey Gallo Homers In Saturday's Loss
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's loss to the Orioles. Gallo was 1-for-20 over his last six games played, so the home run, his 31st of the year, was a good sight to see. The slugger's blast traveled 375 feet at 108.2 MPH. Gallo is hitting under .200 with a strikeout rate north of 39 percent since coming over from Texas, but he is still hitting the ball hard and is always seemingly a homer away from a hot streak. He could be a major factor down the stretch for fantasy managers.

Fri Aug 27 202110:15Joey Gallo Mashes Three-Run Homer
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer in Thursday's win over the Athletics. Gallo had enjoyed some past success against Athletics righty James Kaprielian, which continued Thursday night when the former sent a ball 419 feet into the seats at a whopping 113 MPH. This was a welcome sight, as Gallo had been struggling through a brutal 1-for-22 stretch. He has a good chance to build on this effort against Friday's scheduled starter, Sean Manaea. Gallo owns two homers and six RBI in 16 career at-bats against Manaea, making him an upside play in both redraft and DFS formats.

Sat Aug 21 202112:25Joey Gallo Gets Afternoon Off On Saturday
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Twins. This appears to just be a day off for Gallo, who has started in nine straight games for New York. Since being traded to the Yankees, Gallo is slashing .152/.302/.367 with four homers, eight RBI and 14 runs scored over 22 games. With Gallo sitting on the bench, Tyler Wade is getting the start in left field and batting ninth in the lineup.

Sun Aug 15 202100:37Joey Gallo Homers Twice In Saturday's Win
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBI in Saturday's win over the White Sox. Gallo hit a 354-foot, 100.5 MPH solo homer to extend the Yankee lead to 2-0 in the first inning. His second blast was a moonshot, traveling a whopping 424 feet at 113.8 MPH, breaking the game open for New York in the 10th. Gallo was slumping through his first 14 games with New York, though nights like this are reminders of his immense power upside at the plate. He's slashing .214/.371/.478 with 28 homers, 61 RBI, and 68 runs scored while ranking among the league's best in exit velocity and barrel rate.

Thu Aug 5 202123:15Joey Gallo Blasts First Homer As A Yankee
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo went 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBI, and two runs scored during a 5-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. The two-time All-Star blasted his 26th homer, a three-run shot and first as a Yankee, off of Mariners relief pitcher Paul Sewald during the seventh inning. The newly acquired Yankee had been slumping before breaking out on Thursday, going 2-for-23 with zero homers. Gallo is as streaky as they come, and fantasy managers are hoping the 27-year-old is entering a hot one. On the season, Gallo has 26 homers, 58 RBI, 61 runs, and six steals to go along with a .220/.372/.487 line over 419 at-bats. Provided he builds off this night, there is no better place for the slugging Gallo to be than Yankee Stadium and the short right field porch.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Fri Jul 30 202122:15Gallo, Rizzo excited to join Yankees for playoff drive
MIAMI (AP) — With a pair of new sluggers in place, the New York Yankees are ready to make their playoff drive. First baseman Anthony Rizzo homered in his Yankees debut Friday night and All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo also suited up with New York for the first time in the opener of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. New York obtained Gallo and left-handed reliever Joely Rodríguez from the Texas Rangers for four minor league prospects Thursday. Rizzo’s nine-year tenure with the Chicago Cubs ended after he was sent to the Yankees for two prospects. Entering the weekend series at Miami, the Yankees were 8 1/2 games behind AL East leader Boston and 3 1/2 behind Oakland for the league's second wild card. “I’ve been hearing for some time that it was a possibility, that New York was in play for me,” Gallo said. “I grew up a huge Yankee fan. My family is from New York. It was pretty surreal they told me I was going to the Yankees. A great opportunity — it’s an amazing team to be a part... [More]
Fri Jul 30 202121:15Yankees get Angels lefty starter Heaney for 2 minor leaguers
MIAMI (AP) — The New York Yankees acquired Los Angeles Angels starter Andrew Heaney on Friday, adding a pitcher after making two big trades for sluggers. The Yankees got the 30-year-old lefty and cash for minor league right-handers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero. New York began the day at 53-48, fourth in the AL wild-card race for two spots. As Friday's trade deadline approached, the Yankees got All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo from Texas and star first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs. Heaney was 6-7 with a 5.27 ERA in 18 starts for the Angels this year. He is 30-36 with a 4.57 ERA in eight seasons with Miami and Los Angeles — he posted his first big league win against the Yankees in 2015. Angels general manager Perry Minasian said one major reason for the move was the development of Reid Detmers, who will make his major-league debut on Saturday against Oakland. Detmers was the 10th overall pick in the 2020 draft, threw six shutout innings and struck out nine in his only start... [More]
Fri Jul 30 202119:35AL East-leading Red Sox acquire Robles and Davis in trades
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The AL East-leading Boston Red Sox acquired right-hander Hansel Robles from Minnesota and left-hander Austin Davis from Pittsburgh in a pair of trades Friday. Boston sent infielder-outfielder Michael Chavis to the Pirates and minor league right-hander Alex Scherff to the Twins. Robles made 45 appearances for the Twins this season, going 3-4 with 10 saves and a 4.91 ERA. He has appeared in 358 major league games overall. Davis has made 65 relief appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies (2018-20) and Pirates (2020-21), posting a 5.65 ERA. The left-hander has appeared in 10 games with Pittsburgh and 13 in the minors this year. “Everybody has seen our bullpen has done a great job this year, and we wanted to back that up by getting them reinforcements to make sure we have as many good options as possible down the stretch," Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said. Boston began the day with the third-best AL bullpen ERA at 3.62. Chavis hit .190 with two home... [More]
Fri Jul 30 202119:35Phillies acquire Gibson, Kennedy in trade with Rangers
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitchers Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy, bolstering their staff in a deadline trade Friday in which they got the Texas Rangers' top starter and closer in exchange for rookie right-hander Spencer Howard and two other pitching prospects. Texas also sent pitching prospect Hans Crouse, a second-round draft pick four years ago, and cash to the Phillies. Howard (0-2, 5.72 ERA), who was Philadelphia’s second-round pick in 2017, is going to Texas with right-handers Kevin Gowdy and Josh Gessner. Gibson (6-3, 2.87 ERA in 19 starts) was a first-time All-Star this season, but the 33-year-old right-hander lost his last three starts for Texas. Kennedy had 16 saves in 17 opportunities for the last-place Rangers, and the 36-year-old right-hander hasn’t issued a walk in his last 11 appearances, a span of 45 batters dating to June 4. “We feel like we made ourselves better and we’re in position where we have another starting pitcher in our rotation for next year. We’ve also... [More]
