Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Martinez has struggled of late, taking the loss in each of his last three starts. He still holds a 3.43 ERA on the season, however, and figures to be back up with the Rangers later in the season. The move comes as a response to Neftali Feliz coming off the DL on Thursday.

Martinez (5-5) gave up four runs -- three earned -- over 6.2 innings in Baltimore on Wednesday. He struck out five while allowing seven hits and a walk in the loss.

Despite the fact that this was his first one-walk game since way back on May 12, Martinez was stuck with his third straight defeat. On the bright side, he's gone six-plus in five consecutive starts; on the downside, his 57:34 K:BB is far from respectability and points to a continually rising ERA in his future. He'll host the National League's top offense, the Diamondbacks, next week.

Martinez was torched for nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits, walking four and striking out two over six innings of a 12-2 loss to the Jays on Friday night.

Martinez (5-4, 3.39 ERA) allowed runs in four of the first five innings and left after tossing 107 pitches (just 62 for strikes). While pitching against Toronto in the Rogers Centre is certainly no easy assignment, this outing was particularly rough as his pedestrian stuff might be starting to catch up with him.

Martinez took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks over six innings, striking out two.

That's his 11th quality start of the season, and Martinez continues to avoid serious damage to his 2.77 ERA despite his lack of dominance. His luck could run out in his next turn on the mound though, on the road against the potent Blue Jays on Friday.

Martinez gave up three runs in seven innings with five strikeouts and two walks Sunday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.

Martinez allowed a leadoff home run and an RBI double in the second, but looked poised to earn another win before a misplayed ball in the seventh resulted in a run-scoring triple that tied the game. Minnesota ultimately won the game and cost Martinez the chance for the win, but the quality start was his 10th in 13 tries and he will carry a shiny 2.76 ERA into Friday's start against the White Sox.

Martinez improved to 5-2 behind six shutout innings Tuesday against Oakland. He struck out three, walked three, and allowed just one hit.

Martinez rebounded from a disaster start June 3rd against the White Sox in which he allowed seven runs in 3.1 innings. Aside from that blip, three of his last four starts have been quality starts and his ERA sits at 2.65.

Martinez allowed nine hits and seven earned runs to go with five strikeouts and two walks in 3.1 innings Wednesday against the White Sox.

Martinez (4-2) had his shortest outing of the season as the White Sox jumped on him for six runs in the second. After starting the season with four wins and no losses, Martinez has now lost two straight and his ERA has ballooned up to 2.89. He'll look to bounce back in his next scheduled start Tuesday at Oakland.

Martinez allowed two runs, struck out five and walked two while scattering nine hits over seven innings Thursday against the Red Sox.

Martinez (4-1) lost for the first time this season. Mookie Betts hit an RBI single in the fifth and Hanley Ramirez, who was the designated hitter with slumping slugger David Ortiz getting the night off, led off the sixth with his 11th homer of the season to make it 2-0. Martinez still produced a quality start and maintains a solid 2.03 ERA. His next start will be Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Martinez ran his record to 4-0 on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings, striking out five.

Both runs came on solo shots after he had a comfortable 13-0 lead, so you can hardly blame him for grooving a couple of pitches. Despite a weak 30:17 K:BB ratio in 55 innings, Martinez now sports a 1.96 ERA and seven quality starts in nine outings, and he'll try to keep his impressive run going on Thursday, at home to the Red Sox.

Martinez was solid en route to his third win of the season on Sunday against the Indians, striking out six and allowing just one run over five innings.

The 24-year-old was forced to leave the game a bit early due to a high pitch count, as he also had five walks, but was able to mitigate any damage via strikeouts and weak fly balls. Martinez now owns a sparkling 1.88 ERA through 48 innings pitched and is proving to be a steady fantasy starter, although the high strikeout totals are not always a given.

Martinez gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts over 6.1 innings Tuesday against the Royals.

These are the kind of starts Martinez's owners are hoping to extract wins from, but his teammates were unable to hang an adequately high number on Edinson Volquez, who was pitching for the Royals. While Martinez has a sparkling 1.88 ERA, that number should essentially be thrown out the window. He is striking out less than a batter every two innings, and his 3.68 K/9 entering Tuesday's start ranked third to last among all pitchers who have thrown 20-plus innings this season. There might be something to his newfound ability to prevent runs, but it is failing to show up in the predictive metrics. This means there is an uncomfortable combination of low upside and unpredictability regarding Martinez's value going forward.

Martinez allowed three runs, six hits and one walk with two strikeouts over 4.2 innings Thursday against the Rays.

Martinez entered the game with a 0.84 ERA- second best in the American League. He breezed through the first four innings before allowing three runs in the fifth and being pulled with two outs in the inning. Martinez picked up a no-decision as he was one out away from qualifying for the win. His next start will be against Kansas City on Tuesday.

Martinez was great against the Angels on Sunday, tossing six shutout innings, scattering seven hits and walking two. He did not factor into the decision.

The 24-year-old righty has only allowed one run through 26 innings this season, and could easily be sitting at 4-0 with a little more timely run support. He doesn't strike out many batters (just 11 through four starts), but Martinez's solid ratios make him a useful fantasy option.

Martinez will start for the Rangers on Sunday against the Angels.

Martinez will follow Colby Lewis in a Rangers' rotation that has been shaken up due to the seemingly temporary demotion of Ross Detwiler. Martinez has been sharp this year, allowing just one earned run in three outings on his way to a 2-0 record.

Texas' offense rallied too late for Martinez to come away with a victory, but he allowed just five hits and a walk over his six innings. He has just nine strikeouts in his 20 innings thrown thus far, but the allowed just one run over his three starts.

Martinez gave up five hits and three walks but still didn't allow an earned run in his start Tuesday against the Angels, picking up his second win of the season.

Martinez hasn't allowed an earned run through his first two starts. While his strikeout numbers aren't high, he's inducing a lot of fly balls. The second-year righty's next start will likely be Tuesday, April 21 against the Diamondbacks.

Dating back to last season, Thursday was Martinez's seventh straight start with two or fewer earned runs allowed. Martinez was battling with Nick Tepesch and Lislverto Bonilla for the final spot in the Rangers' rotation, so Thursday's strong outing should earn him another start when the Rangers face the Angels on Tuesday.

Martinez fired six scoreless innings against Colorado on Thursday, further cementing hos spot as the frontrunner for the final rotation spot.

Martinez needed just 74 pitches to retire 18 batters and appears to have all but locked down the final spot in the season-opening rotation.

Martinez appears to be the front runner for the final spot in the starting rotation, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

Martinez and Nick Tepesch are the favorites, with Anthony Ranaudo and Lisalverto Bonilla also part of the competition. Ross Detwiler was named to the starting rotation Thursday, leaving just the one spot up for grabs. Martinez has a 1.93 ERA and 5:0 K:BB in just 4.2 Cactus League innings this spring.
