The New York Yankees optioned second baseman Rob Refsnyder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
The New York Yankees optioned second baseman Rob Refsnyder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. He was sent down to make room on the 25-man roster for outfielder Carlos Beltran, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list Sunday after recovering from an oblique injury. Refsnyder is considered one of the top position players in the Yankees' minor-league system, but he started just four games after being called up before the All-Star break. He went 2-for-12 with one home run, and rather than letting him continue to develop in the majors, the Yankees will revert back to Stephen Drew, who is hitting just .182 with 12 home runs and 25 RBI in 79 games this season. Refsnyder had been playing well in the minor leagues this season, hitting .290 with seven home runs, 37 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 81 games.
