Thu May 10 201211:39McGehee goes 1-for-4 in loss
Casey McGehee went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.
McGehee is batting just .246/.316/.333, continuing the prolonged slump that began in his final year with the Brewers. He also has zero home runs in 76 plate appearances this season, and carries no fantasy value.

Fri Mar 30 201216:45Casey McGehee hits first spring homer
Casey McGehee went 2-for-4 and hit his first homer Friday as the Pirates and Rays played to a 3-3 tie.
With a .292 average and seven RBI in 48 at-bats, McGehee isn't quite tearing it up this spring, but he is certainly outproducing Pedro Alvarez. He'll certainly start against lefties once the season begins. Whether he'll get playing time against righties at the expense of Alvarez or first baseman Garrett Jones remains to be seen.

Thu Feb 16 201210:16Pirates avoid arb. with Casey McGehee
Pirates and 3B Casey McGehee avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.
No word yet on the dollar amount. McGehee requested $2.725 million and was offered $2.35 million from the Pirates when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. It took over three weeks for the two sides to make a compromise.

Fri Feb 3 201209:45Casey McGehee's arbitration hearing set
The Pirates' arbitration hearing with Casey McGehee is set for February 16.
Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the two sides have "continued to negotiate," but it's not clear if they're close to coming to an agreement. It seems unlikely, though, that they would trade for the infielder and then go to an arbitration hearing with him. McGehee requested $2.725 million and was offered $2.35 million from the Pirates when figures were exchanged last month.

Tue Jan 17 201223:23McGehee requests $2.725M from Pirates
Casey McGehee requested $2.725 million and was offered $2.35 million from the Pirates when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
McGehee, who was acquired from the Brewers in December, is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after batting just .223/.280/.346 with 13 home runs, 67 RBI and a .626 OPS in 2011. We doubt the Pirates would take a newly-acquired player to a hearing, so look for the two sides to meet at the midpoint in the coming days.

Mon Dec 12 201120:51Pirates acquire Casey McGehee from Brewers
Pirates acquired 3B Casey McGehee from the Brewers for RHP Jose Veras.
The Brewers agreed to terms with Aramis Ramirez on Monday, which made McGehee expendable. More importantly, this is an indication that they are comfortable with Mat Gamel as the replacement for Prince Fielder at first base. As for McGehee, he push Pedro Alvarez for his job at third base or even play some first base depending upon what happens with Derrek Lee and Garrett Jones. McGehee, 29, batted just .223/.280/.346 with 13 home runs, 67 RBI and a .626 OPS over 600 plate appearances this season. He projects to make somewhere around $3 million in his first year of arbitration.

Sun Dec 11 201110:07Rangers interested in Casey McGehee?
George A. King III of the New York Post reports that if the Rangers wind up trading Mitch Moreland, they would have interest in the Brewers' Casey McGehee to play first base.
King has heard rumors about the Rangers possibly sending Moreland to Tampa Bay in exchange for Wade Davis, which would open up a hole at first. We're not sure why McGahee would appeal to them, though, as he lost his starting job at third base down the stretch in 2011 while finishing with a woeful .223/.280/.346 batting line. Perhaps they think he could bounce back to his 2010 form.

Mon Dec 5 201116:43Roenicke expects Casey McGehee to start
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said he expects Casey McGehee to be a starter in 2012, whether it's at third base or possibly at first base if Prince Fielder leaves.
There had been questions of whether the Brewers would even tender him a contract after he posted a wildly disappointing .223/.280/.346 batting line in 2011, but it appears that McGehee will be counted on by the Brew Crew again next year. He'll be on a short leash, though, and the Brewers will surely bring in a viable backup plan.

Wed Nov 16 201115:50Brewers likely to tender contract to McGehee
Brewers owner Mark Attanasio indicated Wednesday that the club will tender Casey McGehee a contract.
McGehee batted just .223/.280/.346 with 13 homers, 67 RBI and a .626 OPS this season and lost his starting third base job to Jerry Hairston, Jr. during the postseason, but Attanasio called him a bounce-back candidate for 2012. The 29-year-old is due around $3 million as a first-time arbitration-eligible player.

Sun Oct 23 201109:17Melvin not giving up on McGehee
Brewers manager Doug Melvin is not ready to give up on Casey McGehee as the team's starting third baseman.
"I think he can still be a good player," said Melvin. McGehee, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, stumbled to a .223/.280/.346 batting line this season and was benched in the playoffs in favor of Jerry Hairston. He hit .285/.337/.464 with 23 homers and 104 RBI in 2010, though, and Melvin evidently thinks McGehee could recapture at least some of that lost production. The Brewers are not expected to make a run at Aramis Ramirez, but they seem likely to at least bring someone in to compete with McGehee or perhaps let him battle it out with Taylor Green.

Wed Sep 21 201111:40Casey McGehee not in Wednesday's lineup
Casey McGehee is not in the Brewers' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Cubs.
After playing shortstop on Monday, Jerry Hairston Jr. will play third base Wednesday. McGehee and Yunesky Betancourt have been mediocre at best this season, so Hairston could play himself into a prominent role down the stretch and during the postseason.

Fri Sep 16 201114:45McGehee not playing Friday
Casey McGehee is not in the Brewers' Friday evening lineup.
Batting just .184/.279/.368 through his first 13 games this month, McGehee will be spelled by Taylor Green. He should be back in the lineup on Saturday.

Wed Sep 7 201122:06Casey McGehee ejected
Casey McGehee was ejected from Wednesday's game in the fourth inning for arguing a called third strike.
McGehee was called out on strikes for the second straight at-bat and must have said the magic word to home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn, because Reyburn gave him a quick hook. The third baseman is unlikely to face any disciplinary action.

Wed Aug 3 201117:26Brewers' McGehee hits three homers in win
Casey McGehee delivered his first career three-homer game Wednesday in the Brewers' 10-5 win over the Cardinals.
McGehee had just five homers in 388 at-bats this season and none since July 6 before taking Edwin Jackson deep three times. The five RBI is also a season high, of course. McGehee has been a huge disappointment as a run producer behind Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder in the Milwaukee lineup, but he sure did come through in spectacular fashion today.

Sat Jul 30 201102:26McGehee has two hits in win over Astros
Casey McGehee was 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Friday's win over the Astros.
His single broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. He also walked in the seventh and double in the eighth. While McGehee is batting .292 (14-for-48) since the All-Star break, he has just one home run since May 20.

Fri Jul 8 201117:40McGehee not in Friday's lineup
Casey McGehee is not in Friday's lineup against the Reds.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke is stacking his lineup with left-handed bats against Mike Leake, so Mat Gamel will make another start at third base. Gamel is just 3-for-22 since being called up from the minors, so he isn't exactly stealing the third base job.

Wed Jul 6 201117:08Casey McGehee hits three-run homer
Casey McGehee came off the bench to hit a three-run homer that gave the Brewers the lead in Wednesday's defeat of the Diamondbacks.
McGehee has been so bad this year that the Brewers have suddenly resumed trying Mat Gamel at third base after never letting him play there in Triple-A during the first three months. But perhaps that was just the kick in the pants that McGehee needs. The homer today was his first since May 20.

Wed Jul 6 201112:49McGehee not in Wednesday's lineup
Casey McGehee is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.
Mat Gamel will make the start at third base Wednesday and bat seventh against right-hander Josh Collmenter. He was being used at first base in the minor leagues, but could continue to see playing time at third base if McGehee's struggles continue.

Mon Jul 4 201113:16McGehee back in Brewers' lineup Monday
Casey McGehee is back in the Brewers' starting lineup on Monday evening against the Diamondbacks.
McGehee was given two days off this weekend to clear his head. He's batting just .221 with a .577 OPS this season and has begun losing playing time to Mat Gamel.

Sat Jul 2 201100:50Casey McGehee goes hitless in loss
Casey McGehee went 0-for-4 as the Brewers' designated hitter in Friday's loss to the Twins.
Really, if McGehee needed a bit of break from third base, couldn't the Brewers have just given him the day off? He entered the night with a .586 OPS for the season. He hasn't had an extra-base hit since June 19, a milthit game since June 14 or a homer since May 20. And this is the Brewers' DH?
