Josh Willingham confirmed he would be open to signing an extension to stay with the Twins after this season.
"I do love playing in Minnesota," Willingham said. "From the organization to the weather to my friends and teammates, all that stuff is a plus for me. I would love to stay here for another year or so (beyond 2014)." The 35-year-old batted just .208/.342/.368 in 111 games last season but belted 35 home runs and 110 RBI in his first season with the Twins in 2012. Willingham is in the final year of a three-year, $21 million deal.

Josh Willingham went 2-for-3 with two home runs, including the game-winning homer in the eighth inning, as the Twins beat the A's 4-3 on Tuesday.
Willingham launched a solo blast in the second inning before delivering a two-run shot in the eighth that gave the Twins the lead. The homers were his first since August 13. The 34-year-old has hit just .207/.345/.383 with 14 home runs in an injury-plagued season.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Orioles "remain engaged in ongoing talks" for both Josh Willingham and Michael Morse.
The O's have claimed both players off revocable waivers, and it seems likely that one (or possibly both) of them will wind up in Baltimore before Sunday. Willingham is making $7 million this season and is due the same in 2014, while Morse is earning $6.75 million this season before hitting free agency over the winter.

The team that claimed him is unknown at this point. The Twins can now try to work out a trade or opt to pull Willingham back. The 34-year-old outfielder is batting .215/.347/.391 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI in 89 games played this season for Minnesota.

Peter Gammons of MLB Network reports that the Twins have placed outfielder Josh Willingham on revocable waivers.
Willingham is batting .214/.348/.393 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI over 87 games this season and made his return from right knee surgery earlier this month. The 34-year-old is under contract for $7 million next season. He could be an interesting bat for a contender, but his salary, health, and lack of production could limit interest.

Willingham has been dealing with soreness in the knee for a couple weeks now, and the pain was bad enough Monday that he had to be scratched from the lineup. Even if no structural damage is found, the Twins might decide to play it safe and shut Willingham down through the All-Star break. The outfielder is batting .224/.356/.398 with 10 homers and 37 RBI this season.
