Wed Oct 12 201116:45Joseph Addai held out of Colts practice
Joseph Addai (hamstring) missed Colts practice Wednesday.
Though the Colts refuse to publicly rule out Addai, he is not expected to be active against Cincinnati. His injury is believed to be a week-to-week deal.

Wed Oct 12 201115:17Colts not ruling out Joseph Addai for Week 6
Coach Jim Caldwell isn't ruling out Joseph Addai for Week 6, characterizing Addai's hamstring strain as a "day-to-day" situation.
The Indianapolis beat writers don't expect Addai to face the Bengals, but the coaching staff is trying to keep Cincinnati guessing. "It will be a day-to-day sort of situation," said Caldwell. "He's being treated for obviously his hamstring and we'll kind of see how the week goes." Look for rookie Delone Carter to start the game, and rotate with Donald Brown.

Wed Oct 12 201109:08Joseph Addai unlikely to play Sunday?
Beat writer Phillip Wilson tentatively believes Joseph Addai (hamstring) won't play in Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Wilson isn't reporting here, just giving his gut feeling. Regardless, the signs point toward Addai sitting. Coach Jim Caldwell has talked about Donald Brown's role growing for the next couple weeks and the Colts promoted RB Darren Evans from their practice squad Tuesday night. We'd be surprised if Addai practiced in any capacity this afternoon. Delone Carter and Brown would share the load if the veteran starter is out.

Mon Oct 10 201119:31Joseph Addai has 1-3 week hamstring injury?
ESPN's John Clayton suggested on SportsCenter Monday that Joseph Addai's right hamstring strain could sideline him for 1-3 weeks.
Although it's supposed to come off as a "report" on ESPN, Clayton is just guessing. "Could keep him out a couple weeks," said Clayton. "Addai could be down one, two, possibly three weeks." Coach Jim Caldwell's comments Monday did suggest Donald Brown's role would grow for the "next couple weeks," indicating that's how long the Colts anticipate Addai sitting out. Brown and Delone Carter will share the workload until Addai gets back.

Sun Oct 9 201113:34Addai done for the day with hamstring injury
Joseph Addai left Sunday's game in the first quarter with a right hamstring injury and is considered doubtful to return.
Addai was visibly frustrated after the injury, which sometimes suggests the player fears a significant one. The Colts' "doubtful" listing suggests it is, and Addai eventually went to the locker room with a brace on his right leg. Delone Carter is next up on the depth chart. Addai had 19 yards on six carries before exiting, plus a six-yard catch.

Tue Oct 4 201100:31Addai pedestrian against the Bucs in Week 4
Joseph Addai rushed 11 times for 41 yards and added one catch for seven yards in Monday's loss to the Bucs.
Get used to it, folks. Aside from the general disarray at the quarterback position, the Colts' O-Line is banged up to the point that it used practice squad call-up Mike Tepper tonight. Addai is on pace for 920 rushing yards, 32 catches, 236 receiving yards, and four touchdowns.

Mon Sep 26 201100:36Joseph Addai has nice night in loss
Joseph Addai rushed 17 times for 86 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
Addai had an impressive night, extending a number of runs with broken tackles. Interestingly, he also served as the Colts' short-yardage back, getting all three carries with four yards or fewer to go to a first down. He turned a 3rd-and-2 on the Pittsburgh six into a six-yard touchdown for the Colts' only offensive touchdown on their final drive of the night. Backup Delone Carter took the ball just four times for 11 yards, with all four of his attempts coming on first or second down. Addai is little more than an RB3/flex option, but he's still the Colts runner to own for the time being.

Sun Sep 18 201117:11Joseph Addai rushed for 64 yards in loss
Joseph Addai rushed 14 times for 64 yards and added four catches for 37 yards in Sunday's loss to the Browns.
Addai was productive, but lost full series at a time to impressive rookie Delone Carter. And although the Colts didn't get into any real goal-line situations, Carter is the short-yardage back. Addai needs to be on all benches against the Steelers next week.

Tue Sep 6 201108:22Addai to get more chances with Peyton out?
ESPN's Paul Kuharsky believes Joseph Addai will get more chances with Peyton Manning (neck) sidelined, but is skeptical that the Colts will be able to open any holes.
This offense was not built to run the ball. The Colts led the league in pass attempts last season and have the personnel suited for that scheme. Their offensive line is shaky at best and has been trained to pass block. While Addai will be needed to take pressure off Kerry Collins, we don't have high hopes. Even with Manning spreading the field, Addai has averaged just 3.94 yards per carry over the last two seasons.

Fri Aug 26 201122:50Joseph Addai has 51 yards in preseason game
Joseph Addai rushed eight times for 44 yards and caught a seven-yard pass in the Colts' third preseason game.
Donald Brown (6-12) was sprinkled in with the first-team offense, but it's pretty clear that this is Addai's backfield. Brown, as you might expect, was totally ineffective and now has 11 carries for 28 yards (2.54 YPC) through three preseason games. Addai remains a pedestrian runner with 11 exhibition carries for 52 yards (4.72 YPC), but he's still a big jump up from Brown. Delone Carter and Darren Evans are playing with the backups.

Tue Aug 23 201115:24Giants were interested in Addai, Williams
GM Jerry Reese confirmed the Giants were interested in Joseph Addai and DeAngelo Williams as fallback plans to Ahmad Bradshaw once free agency began.
"We considered some others, yes, because we had to keep our options open," Reese explained. The Giants weren't about to match Carolina's $22 million guaranteed to Williams. It's a good bet that Addai never even received an offer because the Giants were waiting on Bradshaw as Plan A.

Mon Aug 1 201113:36Addai's contract worth $14M over 3 years
Joseph Addai's new contract with the Colts is worth $14 million over three years.
For a Colts running back, that's starter's pay. Addai's reliability in the passing game for a pass-first offense gives him a big edge over rookie Delone Carter and Donald Brown for the first-string job, and he'll open the season with the most fantasy value in Indianapolis' backfield. Carter is still worth a late-round flier, but we can't reasonably expect him to beat out Addai for goal-line work. It's one of Addai's primary strengths.

Sat Jul 30 201117:16After Manning move, Colts retain Joseph Addai
Colts re-signed RB Joseph Addai.
The move was made possible after the Colts released CB Kelvin Hayden and signed Peyton Manning to a cap-friendly extension. Manning lobbied for Addai's return, but the 28-year-old running back looked out of gas in 2010. He appeared in just eight games, battling neck injuries, and hasn't been an explosive runner since his rookie season. Addai is still a good fit for the Colts' pass-happy offense, however, and should be a reasonably productive RB2/3 as long as he can stay healthy. His return takes some of the shine off of rookie Delone Carter's sleeper status. Donald Brown is further buried on the depth chart.

Wed Jul 27 201116:06Addai not certain to re-sign with Colts
Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star is "starting to doubt" the Colts will re-sign Joseph Addai.
Wilson cites salary cap concerns, though restructuring the contracts of CB Kelvin Hayden and RT Ryan Diem could free up much-needed room. Wilson later suggested Dominic Rhodes could be brought back as a veteran presence if Addai is allowed to walk.

Wed Jul 27 201113:34Colts hope to re-sign Joseph Addai
The Colts main priority in free agency is to re-sign their own players, including Joseph Addai.
The Addai market has been quiet early on. Returning as Peyton Manning's safety blanket always seemed like the best scenario. The Colts are also concentrating on re-signing K Adam Vinatieri, OL Charlie Johnson, S Melvin Bullitt, LB Clint Session, and DTs Dan Muir and Antonio Johnson.

Tue Jul 5 201113:38Silver: Expect a lot of 1-2 year deals in FA
Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports expects "a lot of one- and two-year deals at virtually the same pay grade" once the free-agent frenzy kicks off this summer.
The high-end free agents such as Nnamdi Asomugha and DeAngelo Williams will draw plenty of attention on the open market, but there are 500 four- and five-year vets alone this year. After speaking with league sources, Silver believes many will simply re-sign "as players and teams search for short-term stability amid the madness." Contrary to previous reports, Silver also points out that the league year is likely to begin once a tentative labor agreement is reached -- as was the case back in 1993.

Tue Jun 28 201109:16Colts expected to re-sign Joseph Addai
ESPN's Chris Mortensen expects the Colts to re-sign free agent Joseph Addai.
Mort also calls Addai a "difference maker," a term not typically used on blitz-pickup and short-yardage specialists. Addai has more value to the Colts than any other team, so it makes sense for the sides to reunite. The former No. 30 pick in the draft will have a slim market after missing 14 games over the past three seasons, and averaging just 3.81 yards per carry during that span.

Mon May 2 201101:06Addai expected back with Colts in 2011?
Free agent Joseph Addai is expected to return to the Colts, according to beat writer Philip Wilson.
Wilson writes that Addai has accepted a one-year deal as a restricted free agent, which can't be right. RFAs are prohibited from signing their tender offers during the lockout, and neither Addai nor the Colts can be sure whether five-year vets will end up unrestricted or not.

Wed Apr 6 201111:50Polian will presume four-year vets are gone
Colts president Bill Polian will draft as if all players with at least four years of experience will hit the unrestricted free agent market later this offseason.
"I think you have to go into the draft and say, 'Anybody who's out there [as a potential unrestricted free agent] is not coming back,'" Polian said, preparing for a worst-case scenario. RB Joseph Addai, SS Melvin Bullitt, and LT Charlie Johnson are the most valuable of the Colts' possible UFAs heading into the draft. Polian may have to devote draft picks to those positions.
