Infante may need offseason surgery to repair a shoulder injury, the Kansas City Star reports.

The shoulder discomfort first popped up in spring training and lingered on and off, resulting in just a .623 OPS for the season, Infante's lowest mark since 2005. He recently admitted that he feels "a lot of pain" when he swings in batting practice, and his teammates skip him when the ball sails around the horn in the infield. Further, Infante went 0-for-11 during the ALDS, but he is not expected to lose playing time during the Championship Series.

Infante (shoulder) will start Saturday's game against the Indians, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.

After testing the sore shoulder that held him out the past four games, Infante is able to manage hitting at the very least. It's unclear if he'll assume DH duty or return to his typical spot at second base.

Infante has been dealing with shoulder inflammation and will miss the next three days, according to manager Ned Yost, AM 610's Josh Vernier reports.

Yost said Infante has been dealing with the inflammation for "two or three weeks," and given Infante's age (32 years old), it's not surprising the Royals will give him a few days to rest. Christian Colon will start at second base Tuesday.

With Infante on the bench, Christian Colon will start at second base, while shortstop Alcides Escobar will move up in the order to bat second for manager Ned Yost on Tuesday night.

Infante had himself a heck of a day at the plate in Tuesday's game against the Rockies, as he went 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI and a run scored.

Prior to Tuesday's outburst, Infante had been mired in a 4-for-37 slump. So, maybe this game can get him going. His .258/.297/.361 slash line in 407 at-bats this year still leaves a lot to be desired.

Infante is out of the lineup Thursday against the Athletics, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

Infante hasn't had a day off since July 6, so a maintenance day was likely overdue. Despite four multi-hit games in August, he's still hitting just .229 on the month, and .260 on the season. He logged hit No. 100 in Wednesday's game, but will rest Thursday in favor of Christian Colon.

Infante's long ball was all the offense the Royals would need behind a stellar performance from starting pitcher Jason Vargas. The 32-year-old was in a 1-for-16 slump before clutch performance Wednesday. He's hitting .260/.300/.362 on the year.

Since the All-Star break, Infante has started every game for the Royals while locking into the No. 2 spot in the batting order. With that placement in the lineup, he should provide a few extra runs scored barring a change of heart from manager Ned Yost. Infante is hitting just .263/.303/.360 in the first season of a four-year, $28.25 million pact with the Royals.

Infante was hot before the All-Star break, but he entered tonight in a 4-for-38 funk. For the year, he's batting a respectable .268. Incredibly, he leads the Royals in RBI with 49, even though he has just five homers and he served a DL stint earlier this year.

Royals activated 2B Omar Infante from the 15-day disabled list.

Infante, out since early May with back stiffness, made it through three minor league rehab games without incident over the weekend. He returns to a .267/.326/.392 batting line over 30 games.
