He was also given stitches to close a laceration created when he was struck on the left side of his face with a Heath Bell fastball Monday. Johnny Giavotella could get a look at second base if Infante is out for a while.

Omar Infante (elbow) has been cleared to start at second base on Opening Day.
Infante admitted Sunday that he still feels a pinch in his right elbow when he swings and throws, but it won't be enough to keep him out of the lineup. However, it is possible that he'll be affected at the plate, so fantasy owners might be wise to have an alternative at second base early on.

Sat Mar 29 201417:18Infante (elbow) expected to start Opening Day
Omar Infante (elbow) will meet the Royals in Detroit and is expected to start on Opening Day.
Infante remained behind in Arizona while the team traveled to Milwaukee to get some more work in, and the extra time seemed to help. Pedro Ciriaco will also make the Opening Day roster, so it's obvious the Royals don't plan to push Infante too hard too soon. Still, it's good news that the second baseman will be on the field when the season starts.

Fri Mar 28 201417:11Royals unsure about Infante's (elbow) status
Royals manager Ned Yost said Friday that he's not sure whether Omar Infante (elbow) will be ready for Opening Day.
"Right now, I don't have any feel for it one way or the other," Yost said. Infante is nursing a sore right elbow and asked to remain back in Arizona in the warm weather rather than travel with the club to exhibition games in Milwaukee. The Royals will make a decision about the second baseman's status on Sunday. Pedro Ciriaco would handle second if Infante needs a DL stint.

Fri Mar 28 201414:01Omar Infante (elbow) could begin year on DL
Omar Infante (elbow) remained at the Royals' spring training complex in Arizona rather than travel with the team for their weekend exhibition games in Milwaukee.
As Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star notes, the news is "not too encouraging" for Infante's chances at being ready for Opening Day. Infante has played in minor league games the last few days but has admitted that his elbow still isn't 100 percent. Yet, manager Ned Yost had previously been bullish on the second baseman's odds of being available for the opener. The Royals should provide an update on Infante's status later Friday.

Tue Mar 25 201423:05Royals expecting Infante (elbow) for opener
Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday that he expects Omar Infante (elbow) to be ready for Opening Day.
Infante admitted that his elbow was still bothering him during a minor league game Tuesday, but Yost was pleased overall. "He played five innings, made two plays at second, had five at-bats, walked and scored from first on a double, so he looked good," Yost said. "Everything went well." Infante will play in another minor league game Wednesday before serving as a DH in a Cactus League game Thursday. "If he does good in all that, we're going to fly him to Milwaukee and let him play in both of those exhibition games and be ready for Opening Day," Yost said.

Tue Mar 25 201417:49Omar Infante still having problems with elbow
Omar Infante (elbow) made it through a minor league game on Tuesday in Royals camp.
But he acknowledged to reporters that his sore elbow is still restricting his throwing motion and his ability to swing at full speed. Infante is aiming to avoid a season-opening stint on the disabled list, but it might be inevitable at this point. The Royals signed the veteran second baseman to a four-year, $28.25 million free agent contract in December.
