Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings, on the disabled list with a knee injury, is without a timetable for a rehab assignment, according to the Tampa Bay Times. |
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings, on the disabled list with a knee injury, is without a timetable for a rehab assignment, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Jennings is reportedly getting closer to beginning a rehab assignment, as he has played catch and taken some dry swings recently, but seems to still be a couple of weeks away. The bursitis in his left knee has already sidelined him for over three weeks, and the fickle injury and he will need to fully recover before the team is comfortable increasing the intensity of his rehab. Jennings could require a rehab stint a bit lengthier than normal, as he has not played since early May, but that decision will be made once he has made some progress. The team will likely continue to tread carefully with Jennings, while Brandon Guyer continues to start in his place. |

Jennings (knee) has no timetable to return but is at least feeling better, the Tampa Bay Times reports. |
Per Rays manager Kevin Cash, "He said he's feeling good, the swelling's gone down, he's seeing progress, so that's a great sign." No timetable is worrying for those who hoped Jennings can come back on his first day of eligibility, but he shouldn't need too much rehab time in the minors. |
Sun May 3 2015 | 10:26 | Desmond Jennings: (Knee) Lands On 15-Day DL |
Jennings was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to left knee bursitis. |
Jennings had missed six straight contests while dealing with the ailment, so the stint could be backdated as far as April 26 if the team chooses to. David DeJesus and Brandon Guyer have been filling in as the primary left fielders with Jennings on the shelf, and should both see similar roles over the next week. The Rays also called up outfielder Joey Butler in a corresponding move, and he'll provide further depth at the position. |
Sat May 2 2015 | 22:21 | Desmond Jennings: (Knee) Could Be Placed On DL |
Jennings (knee) could be placed on the disabled list, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports. |
Jennings was scratched prior to Saturday's game after manager Kevin Cash saw him run in warm-ups. While there's no confirmation of that yet, it could come at some point over the next couple days if it's indeed required. |
Sat May 2 2015 | 19:17 | Desmond Jennings: (Knee) A Late Scratch Saturday |
Jennings' knee is still sore and he was a very late scratch Saturday, the Tampa Tribune's R. Mooney reports. |
He was listed as the team's DH when lineups were announced but then at game time it became clear that he was not in the lineup. Tim Beckham got the start instead at DH. This was a rare instance where those who used Jennings in daily leagues were just plain out of luck. His knee injury is obviously still an issue and he should be considered day-to-day going forward. |
Sat May 2 2015 | 14:41 | Desmond Jennings: (Knee) Will DH Saturday |
Jennings (knee) will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth Saturday against the Orioles, Jim Hunter of MASN Sports reports. |
Jennings will step back in to the lineup, as expected, after missing five games with a sore knee. It's uncertain, however, when he may be cleared to return to the field. Jennings is batting .222/.306/.238 with one extra-base hit (a double) and five stolen bases through 18 games this season (72 plate appearances). |
Fri May 1 2015 | 17:27 | Jennings (knee) will return to lineup Saturday against Orioles |
Jennings (knee) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. |
Manager Kevin Cash indicated Friday that he will play Saurday, but will DH and receive some off days as until his knee fully recovers. He'll get another off day Friday, with Brandon Guyer starting in left field and batting eighth for the Rays. |
Fri May 1 2015 | 15:48 | Jennings (knee) not in lineup Friday against Orioles |
Jennings (knee) is not in the lineup Friday against the Orioles, Steve Carney of the 620 AM WDAE reports. |
Jennings hasn't officially been ruled out for the weekend series, but it wouldn't be surprising if he missed the three game set. Brandon Guyer will continue to start in right field in his absence, batting eight for the Rays on Friday. |

Jennings (knee) will see a doctor in St. Petersburg on Thursday, the Tampa Bay Times reports. |
Rays manager Kevin Cash said the team is optimistic that Jennings will be able to play during the weekend series with Baltimore, but the turf at Tropicana Field could prove to be problematic. If Jennings is limited during the weekend series, Brandon Guyer will continue to see an increased role. |
Wed Apr 29 2015 | 10:36 | Desmond Jennings: (Knee) Could Be Out Until Next Week |
Jennings (knee) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees and may not play again until next week, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports. |
Jennings is still nursing a sore knee, and the Rays are playing at home this weekend following a team off day Thursday, so the team may opt to continue holding him out so that he does not aggravate his injury while playing on turf. Expect Brandon Guyer and Kevin Kiermaier to continue seeing most of the action in left field and center field until Jennings is ready to return. |

Jennings (knee) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports. |
Jennings is out of the lineup for a third straight game, and he hasn't made an appearance off the bench since exiting Saturday's contest against the Blue Jays because of the knee injury. He can still be considered day-to-day, while David DeJesus will start Tuesday's game in left field. |
Mon Apr 27 2015 | 15:48 | Jennings (knee) not in starting lineup Monday against Yankees |
Jennings (knee) is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. |
He's still day-to-day after experiencing soreness and leaving Saturday's game early. Brandon Guyer will get the start in left field against right-hander Adam Warren on Monday night. |
Sun Apr 26 2015 | 10:22 | Jennings (knee) out of lineup Sunday against Blue Jays |
Jennings (knee) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays, Steve Carney of WDAE 620 AM reports. |
Jennings was forced out of Saturday's game against the Blue Jays due to knee soreness, so manager Kevin Cash will give the outfielder a day out of the lineup with the hope that it clears up the issue. The Rays haven't indicated Jennings' injury is anything more than a day-to-day concern, but it could still prevent him from being available off the bench Sunday. Brandon Guyer will cover left field for Jennings. |
Sat Apr 25 2015 | 21:11 | Jennings left Saturday's game with knee soreness |
Jennings left Saturday's game with knee soreness. |
Jennings has batted .217 on the season with 13 hits in 17 games. He also has five stolen bases on the year. Jennings is listed as day-to-day and could be back in the lineup as early as Sunday. |
Wed Mar 25 2015 | 16:22 | Jennings has gone 4-5 over last two games with double and walk |
Jennings has gone 4-for-5 over the last two games with a double and a walk. |
Jennings, who dealt with a very brief illness issue last week, has been hot this spring, batting .500/.567/.538 thus far. He was expected to be bumped from the leadoff role coming into spring, but his performance could keep him in the running for it. |
Tue Mar 17 2015 | 11:13 | Jennings scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to stomach issue |
Jennings was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to a stomach issue, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports. |
Jennings is likely just dealing with a minor illness, so there's nothing to worry about for the time being. He's expected to spend most of his time in left field this season. |
Wed Mar 11 2015 | 10:57 | Jennings slated to primarily play left field for Rays in 2015 |
Jennings is slated to primarily play left field for the Rays in 2015, the Tampa Tribune's R. Mooney reports. |
This is just a bookkeeping note, as it was previously believed that Jennings would be the starting center fielder. Instead, Kevin Kiermaier will be the team's starting center fielder with Jennings spelling him on occasion. This has very little impact on Jennings' fantasy value, and he is still slated to lead off for the Rays this season, so he should be drafted in almost all formats due to his ability to contribute in home runs and steals. |
Wed Feb 25 2015 | 12:12 | Jennings not expected to serve as Rays' leadoff hitter in 2015 |
Jennings is not expected to serve as the Rays' leadoff hitter in 2015, Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. |
The report indicated manager Kevin Cash was getting Jennings off the leadoff mentality, and suggested he may hit fifth or sixth in the lineup. It comes as no surprise given Jennings' .244/.319/.378 batting line in 2014. He was better against left-handed pitching, however, batting .265/.346/.487 and hitting half of his 10 home runs in just 117 at-bats against south paws, and it's possible he will hold onto the leadoff spot against them. |
Tue Feb 3 2015 | 17:49 | Jennings (knee) said he will head into spring training healthy a... |
Jennings (knee) said he will head into spring training healthy after battling left knee soreness in September, the Tampa Bay Times reports. "One hundred percent, and ready to play some baseball," Jennings said. "I feel good." |
Injuries limited Jennings to 123 games last season, while his home-run and stolen-base totals slipped from his 2012 and 2013 levels. Jennings is likely positioned to serve as the Rays' regular center fielder again, but it's expected that he'll drop down in the order against right-handed pitching while serving as the team's leadoff option against southpaws. The ceiling here may not be as high as previously hoped, but Jennings' combination of power and speed will continue to make him intriguing even if his career .248/.327/.401 is his baseline. |
Fri Jan 16 2015 | 10:11 | Jennings (knee) signed one-year |
Jennings (knee) signed a one-year, $3.1 million contract with the Rays on Friday to avoid arbitration, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. |
The 28-year-old has generally failed to live up to the expectations placed on him after a splashy 2011 debut, but will still have an inside track for the leadoff job in 2015. Jennings slashed .244/.319/.378 while slugging 10 homers and stealing 15 bases last season, before knee soreness sidelined him for all of September. |
