Mon Feb 28 201116:07Jaguars re-sign veteran backup Luke McCown
Jaguars re-signed QB Luke McCown to a one-year contract.
McCown, 30 in July, owns a 59.2 completion rate and 9:10 TD-to-INT ratio across seven career starts. His record is 1-6. Coming off a torn right ACL, McCown is expected to compete with a developmental-type, mid-round rookie to back up David Garrard in 2011. If the rookie beats out McCown, it's not hard to imagine the Jaguars releasing the veteran and keeping just two QBs.
Mon Feb 28 201111:13Agent confirms McCown close to re-signing
Luke McCown's agent, Mike McCartney, has confirmed that his client is close to re-signing with the Jaguars on a one-year deal.
McCown spent most of last season on injured reserve with a torn ACL in his right knee, but he reported earlier this month that he could play in a game now if needed. The Jags are likely to take a quarterback in the draft but also want another veteran alongside David Garrard.

Sat Feb 26 201109:19Jags close to re-signing Luke McCown
The Jaguars are reportedly close to re-signing free agent QB Luke McCown to a one-year contract.
Jags GM Gene Smith intends to bring in a veteran quarterback behind David Garrard to pair with a rookie, and McCown fits the former category. He is coming off a torn ACL, however, and is already known for poor pocket presence. QBs with recently reconstructed knees often struggle in the pocket.

Wed Feb 16 201115:46Luke McCown says he could play if needed
Free agent Luke McCown (ACL surgery) says he could play in a game right now if needed.
"If I had to suit up today and run an offense, I could do it effectively," he said, reiterating that his "goal is to be a starter." McCown blew out his knee in Week 2 of last season. He won't be a stable option coming off the knee reconstruction, but could generate some interest as a low-end backup.

Tue Sep 21 201014:56Jags place Luke McCown on I.R.
Jaguars placed QB Luke McCown (ACL tear) on injured reserve, ending his season.
McCown's injury is to his right knee, the same one he had surgically repaired back in 2006. McCown had a shot to push David Garrard this season if the quarterback continued to struggle, but he was never seen as a potential solution in Jacksonville. He'll enter the free agent market in 2011.

Mon Sep 20 201008:24McCown injures knee in final minute
Jaguars backup QB Luke McCown is set for an MRI after injuring his right knee late in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.
McCown was playing in relief of an ineffective David Garrard. It's the same knee that McCown tore his ACL in back in 2006, but this injury doesn't appear as serious. Brett Ratliff could be called up from the practice squad for Week 3.

Sun Sep 19 201022:49L. Mccown relieves Garrard in Week 2
Playing in relief of an ineffective David Garrard, Luke McCown completed 11 of 19 passes for 120 yards in the Jaguars blowout loss to the Chargers.
Garrard wasn't hurt, he was just stinking up Qualcomm Stadium. McCown was replaced by Garrard when he was shaken up in the fourth quarter. In spite of Garrard's awful four-pick performance, there is no QB controversy in Jacksonville.
Sun Aug 22 201011:51McCown continues his strong play
Luke McCown continued his big preseason Saturday night by completing 14-of-23 passes for 152 yards with one touchdown and one interception against the Dolphins.
McCown came in a little early this week when starter David Garrard had the wind knocked out of him. McCown has now thrown for 396 yards and four touchdowns through two exhibition games, tightening the collar on Garrard even more. Garrard will have to perform out of the gate in the regular season to avoid a quarterback controversy.

Fri Aug 13 201023:16McCown outplays Garrard in opener
Jaguars QB Luke McCown completed 11-of-15 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns in the team's preseason opener.
David Garrard was 5-of-10 for 35 yards. McCown turned in his routine boneheaded blunder by running up the middle with the Jags in field-goal range and no time left, but was otherwise stellar. Essentially playing with Troy Williamson as his No. 1 receiver, McCown took advantage of apparently miscommunications in the Eagles' secondary for scoring strikes of 73, 30, and 55 yards. Garrard's in-season leash is getting shorter.
