Tue Dec 6 2011 | 20:48 | Rockies not in on Placido Polanco |
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Rockies are no longer interested in the Phillies' Placido Polanco. |
The Rockies had some interest in Polanco when it was revealed that the Phillies would be willing to part with him, But, they've determined that Polanco isn't able to play second base anymore, and that's the position the Rockies would want him at. The Phillies are expected to hang on to Polanco if they are able to re-sign Jimmy Rollins. |

Tue Dec 6 2011 | 13:25 | Report: Phillies not shopping Polanco |
The Phillies are only interested in trading Placido Polanco if they can't re-sign free-agent shortstop Jimmy Rollins, reports ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. |
If the Phillies re-sign Rollins, their intention is to keep the current infield intact. Were Rollins to skip town, however, Philadelphia would look to use that allocated money to add a significant bat, likely free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez. Polanco is owed $6.25 million next year, with a $1 million buyout of his $5.5 million option for 2013. He posted a weak .277/.335/.339 slash line in 122 games this year while battling dual hernias. |

Sat Dec 3 2011 | 10:41 | Polanco to be ready in time for opening day |
Placido Polanco is expected to be ready for opening day after undergoing double hernia surgery this offseason. |
This confirms earlier reports that Polanco is fully on schedule to return next season. The Phillies have stated that they remain committed to him for 2012, but his effectiveness coming off multiple injuries remains to be seen. He'll look for a bounce back year after hitting just .277/.335/.339 in 122 games this season. |

Thu Oct 13 2011 | 10:57 | Phils' Manuel wants upgrade at third base |
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel indicated Wednesday that the club should seek an upgrade at third base this offseason. |
"If we need to upgrade and we can, we should do it," said Manuel. Polanco was limited to just 122 games this season due to a variety of injuries and underwent double sports hernia surgery earlier this week. The 36-year-old third baseman is under contract for $6.25 million next season with a $5.5 million team option or $1 million buyout for 2013, so while a trade looks unlikely, the Phillies should at least be in the market for a reliable backup this winter. |

Tue Oct 11 2011 | 12:45 | Polanco gets 'double' sports hernia surgery |
Placido Polanco underwent double sports hernia surgery Tuesday in the Philadelphia area. |
It's no wonder he struggled so mightily down the stretch. Polanco should be fully recovered by the time spring training opens next season, but it's fairly clear by now that he's in the twilight of his career. |

Sun Oct 9 2011 | 10:44 | Placido Polanco to undergo MRI |
Placido Polanco will undergo an MRI to evaluate a sports hernia. |
Polanco dealt with the injury for the final two months of the season. It has been assumed all along that he'll get the hernia operated on after the season, and that's probably still the case, but we'll know for sure after the MRI. Polanco had an injury-plagued, disappointing season that saw him bat just .277/.335/.339 with five homers over 122 games. |

Thu Oct 6 2011 | 20:08 | Manuel says Polanco good enough to play |
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel insists Placido Polanco is healthy enough to play despite a nagging sports hernia injury. |
Polanco is just 2-for-16 in the NLDS series against the Cardinals to this point. "If I didn't think that he was able to play, he wouldn't be in the lineup," Manuel said. "But I think he definitely wants to play, and he's able to play. He's struggling right now, but at the same time, he might just come out [on Friday] and have a big day." Polanco will need offseason surgery to correct the hernia, but in the meantime, he'll gut it out. |

Tue Oct 4 2011 | 12:21 | Manuel: Polanco still bothered by hernia |
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel thinks Placido Polanco is still affected by a previous sports hernia. |
Polanco struggled this season after a hot April, and is 0-for-8 in the Phillies' NLDS matchup with the Cardinals. Still, he's Philadelphia's best option at third base and is likely to continue playing through the discomfort through the end of the postseason. |

Polanco hasn't played since August 6 due to a sports hernia and is apparently no closer to returning to the starting lineup. While the Phillies can afford to give him time to rest, Polanco has ruled out the possibility of surgery, as it would likely cost him the rest of the season. |

Tue Aug 16 2011 | 16:28 | Polanco (hernia) unlikely to have surgery |
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Tuesday that Placido Polanco (sports hernia) is unlikely to undergo surgery. |
Good news. Even better, Amaro thinks he could be ready to play by as soon as Wednesday night. However, if he isn't, the Phillies will almost certainly have to place him on the disabled list. Polanco is trying to delay surgery until the offseason, because having the procedure now could put him at risk of missing the rest of the year. |

Sun Aug 14 2011 | 11:35 | Placido Polanco optimistic he'll avoid DL |
Placido Polanco (sports hernia) is optimistic he can avoid the disabled list after fielding some grounders in the batting cage Saturday. |
"I felt comfortable bending over to field grounders," said Polanco, who hasn't played since last Saturday because of a sports hernia. "I'm pretty optimistic I'll be able to play (this) week." A bigger test was supposed to come Sunday when he was scheduled to take batting practice, though it's not clear if he was able to with the game being rained out. Polanco will eventually need surgery but is hoping to delay it until the offseason. |

Sat Aug 13 2011 | 10:20 | Placido Polanco to make decision by Tuesday |
Placido Polanco will make a decision by Tuesday whether or not to have surgery to repair a sports hernia. |
It appears that the uncertain timetable is what is holding Polanco and the Phillies up. "I don't think his issues are as drastic or severe, but there's no guarantee it will be four weeks," GM Ruben Amaro said. "It could be much beyond that. So we'd rather take this route and see if he can get through the season and then deal with it after the season." Polanco said he's feeling better since getting an injection Tuesday, but he's not sure his hip will see any additional improvement. |

Sun Aug 7 2011 | 10:20 | Placido Polanco to miss at least a few days |
Placido Polanco (hip) is expected to be out of the lineup for at least a few days. |
We'll know more after Polanco undergoes an MRI exam and X-rays, which is expected to happen Monday, but at the very least he's going to be sidelined for a few games. "I've had it for a while now," Polanco said, "and I guess it just got worse, sprinting and running." The Phillies don't think the hip injury is related to his previous back ailment, but it's just another addition to a long list of maladies for the veteran, as he's also battled finger, toe and elbow problems. |

Sat Aug 6 2011 | 18:48 | Polanco getting X-rays, MRI on sore left hip |
Placido Polanco has been sent for X-rays and an MRI of his sore left hip. |
Polanco was pulled from Saturday's game after complaining of pain in his hip. It's not thought to be related to his recent back problems, but the Phillies are obviously concerned about their veteran third baseman. The results of both tests should be available by first pitch Sunday. |
