Mon Oct 17 201100:37Barber could be moving into a goal line role
Marion Barber carried the ball 11 times for 32 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' monster win over the Vikings in Week 6.
He added a reception for three yards, and vultured a score from Matt Forte in the first quarter. As for the high carry-total, that was a byproduct of the score. Barber and his 2.9 yards per carry average tonight did nothing to remotely suggest that he'll eat into Forte's workload in-between the 20s.

Tue Oct 11 201100:57Barber gets one carry for three yards
Marion Barber had just one carry for three yards in Week 5 against the Lions.
The Bears didn't get closer than the 9-yard line of Detroit tonight, so there were no goal-line carries for him to have. He's clearly no threat to Matt Forte's workload, and even if Forte were to go down, we're not sure he could sustain a full workload. There are better players to target instead of owning Barber as a handcuff.

Sun Oct 2 201116:31Barber scores TD in 2011 debut
Making his season debut, Marion Barber rushed five times for 17 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Panthers.
Barber immediately took over as a goal-line vulture in his first game as a Bear. He even proved his health after the three-yard score, perfectly executing a standing backflip in celebration. There's not much standalone value here, but Barber is a good bet for a fistful more scores the rest of the way. Kahlil Bell didn't touch the ball.

Fri Sep 30 201114:58Marion Barber to make his Bears debut
The Chicago Tribune reports that Marion Barber (calf) will be active for Sunday's matchup with Carolina.
Barber turned in a full practice week and will probably move into the No. 2 back role, ahead of Kahlil Bell. Matt Forte remains locked in as the Bears' feature back. The team's plans for Barber are unclear after three missed games.

Wed Sep 28 201118:11Barber resumes practicing fully
Marion Barber (calf) has resumed practicing fully.
Barber should be a go against the Panthers after sitting out the Bears' first three games. He won't be a spark for a Chicago rushing attack averaging just 3.2 yards per carry, and isn't worth an own in any format barring injury to Matt Forte.

Sun Sep 25 201109:12Report: Marion Barber out for Week 3
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora is reporting that Marion Barber (calf, questionable) will not play in Week 3, but will likely return in Week 4.
Barber practiced in full on Friday, so he likely had a setback during the last two days. He's no more than a handcuff with Matt Forte the clear No. 1 back (and player for that matter) in Chicago.

Fri Sep 23 201114:26Marion Barber listed as questionable
Marion Barber (calf) is listed as questionable for Week 3.
Barber was limited in practice all week, and signs point toward him making his season debut against the Pack. It's an incredibly tough matchup, of course, and we'd be hard pressed to consider Barber any threat to Matt Forte until proven otherwise. Forte has easily been Chicago's best player through two weeks.

Wed Sep 21 201116:28Marion Barber limited in Bears practice
Marion Barber (calf) was limited in Bears practice Wednesday.
The team is trying to work Barber in back slowly after last week's setback. We'd be hard pressed to consider him a factor at all until he proves his health.

Fri Sep 16 201114:41Marion Barber is listed as doubtful
Marion Barber (calf) is listed as doubtful for Week 2.
Players don't play when they're listed as doubtful, so count on seeing Kahlil Bell as the backup to Matt Forte at New Orleans. Bell had 10 carries in Week 1, but none were in the red zone and five came in late fourth-quarter garbage time during a blowout win over Atlanta. He's little threat to Forte's workload.

Fri Sep 16 201109:11Report: Marion Barber to miss Saints game
The Chicago Tribune reports Marion Barber (calf) will sit out this week's game against the Saints.
Barber didn't suffer a setback after practicing Wednesday, but he did feel enough soreness in his calf to ease back. Kahlil Bell will be the No. 2 back for one more week, likely enabling Matt Forte to handle goal-line chores.

Thu Sep 15 201116:10Setback? Marion Barber held out Thursday
Marion Barber (calf) was held out Thursday after returning to a limited practice on Wednesday.
It's not a good sign that Barber was unable to go after one practice. Perhaps he was rushed back before he was ready. His status for Week 2 at New Orleans is now in doubt.

Wed Sep 14 201116:19Marion Barber practices on limited basis
Marion Barber (calf) returned to Bears practiced on a limited basis Wednesday.
Barber remains questionable for Week 2, although he's slowly getting better. It's unclear if he'll have a normal role at New Orleans if he's not quite 100 percent. Barber could be a drain on Matt Forte at the goal line this year.

Tue Sep 13 201112:04Marion Barber expected to practice this week
Marion Barber (calf) is expected to return to practice Wednesday.
If Barber can make it through a week of practice without a setback in his left calf, he'll likely be active against the Saints Sunday. Barber's main role will be goal-line and short-yardage situations, somewhere the Bears continued to struggle in Week 1 as they converted 1-of-3 red-zone chances.

Fri Sep 9 201114:20Bears rule out Marion Barber for Week 1
The Bears have formally ruled out Marion Barber (calf) for Week 1.
Barber's absence was already expected. Look for Matt Forte to remain the focal point of Chicago's offense against a potentially leaky Atlanta run defense. Forte is locked in as the Bears' every-down running back and a must-start RB1.

Thu Sep 8 201116:13Marion Barber still not practicing
Marion Barber (calf) sat out practice again on Thursday.
No shocker here. Barber is now expected to miss Sunday's game against the Falcons, perhaps leaving Matt Forte to handle goal-line work.

Thu Sep 8 201108:44Report: Marion Barber ruled out for Week 1
Marion Barber (calf) will not play in Sunday's opener against the Falcons, a source tells the Chicago Tribune.
Camp darling Kahlil Bell moves into the primary backup role. That will lock Matt Forte into all goal-line and third-down work, giving him a boost as a RB1. Meanwhile Barber, who has a long history of leg injuries, is predictably recovering slower than expected. As a player whose burst is already sapped, expectations for the season should be kept low.

Wed Sep 7 201118:32Marion Barber likely to miss the Bears opener
The Chicago Sun Times considers Marion Barber (calf) unlikely to play in Week 1 against the Falcons.
Matt Forte is now the favorite for goal-line and all passing-down work. "We're running out of time a little bit for Marion," coach Lovie Smith said. "But he's feeling a little better. So hopefully we'll be able to get him on the field before long." Look for Forte to exceed 20 touches against Atlanta. He's a top-12 fantasy back play.

Wed Sep 7 201116:19Barber (calf) misses practice on Wednesday
Marion Barber (calf) did not participate in Bears practice on Wednesday.
Barber's injury was deemed minor when he suffered it in Chicago's third preseason game, but has predictably lingered for a player with a history of lower-body ailments. It won't be a real concern until he misses practice on Thursday, but you need to have an alternative ready if you are planning on starting Barber this week in hopes that he vultures some goal-line carries from Matt Forte.

Mon Sep 5 201111:20Barber's preseason play called "strong"
Coach Lovie Smith reportedly told Chester Taylor that "he was no longer in the team's plans because of the strong play of free-agent acquisition Marion Barber."
