Mon Jan 13 201408:38Welker confirms he wore big helmet for safety
Wes Welker confirmed he wore an oversized concussion helmet Sunday for safety.
Coming off a pair of regular-season concussions, Welker is doing everything he can to avoid a third brain injury. In addition to the helmet, he wore a specialized mouthpiece while posting a 6/38/1 line in the win over the Chargers. The Broncos didn't coddle Welker at all as he played at 75-of-79 snaps.

Sun Jan 12 201420:21Wes Welker goes for 6-38-1 in victory
Wes Welker caught six balls for 38 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Divisional Round playoff win.
Medically cleared from his three-game concussion, Welker started as Denver opened in a three-wide set. He proceeded to drop his first target, and had another drop in the third quarter. Welker did secure a seven-yard pass that deflected off Chargers DE Corey Liuget on the last play of the first quarter, and scored a second-quarter touchdown from three yards out, beating S Darrell Stuckey. It's worth noting Welker donned an abnormally large helmet Sunday, likely designed to combat brain injuries. The Broncos will host Welker's former team, the Patriots, in next week's Super Bowl decider.

Wes Welker (concussion) has confirmed he's ready to go for the playoffs.
Welker was medically cleared for the Divisional Round earlier this week. He missed the final two games of the regular season. "It took a little bit of time," Welker said Thursday. "Even when I felt I was 100 percent, looking back you weren't 100 percent. It's always a tricky injury and just trying to manage it and everything else, but the doctors and trainers did a great job of just doing the things necessary to get me back out on the field." Going on 33, Welker suffered two concussions this season.

Wes Welker (concussion) has been medically cleared for the playoffs.
This was expected after the Broncos held Welker out of Week 17 as a precaution. He practiced on a limited basis all last week. This is great news for the Broncos. Though he was likely limited, it's Welker's first action on the field since suffering his second concussion in four weeks back in Week 14. We wouldn't expect him to play in the regular season finale against the Raiders, but Welker appears to be on track for the Divisional Round of the playoffs three Sundays from now.

Fri Dec 20 201313:07Fox: Wes Welker 'feeling better every day'
Wes Welker (concussion) is expected to miss the final two regular season games, but Broncos coach John Fox insists Welker is "feeling better every day."
Since Welker has suffered two 2013 concussions, it's conceivable that the Broncos are simply erring on the side of caution with lowly Houston and Oakland on deck. They're looking more toward the postseason for Welker's return. "The exercise is picking up," said Fox. "They are doing more and more with him over in the weight room - running around out here a little bit and the same inside the training room. So he's feeling better every day."

Mon Dec 16 201312:41Welker (concussion) not practicing on Monday
Wes Welker (concussion) is not practicing Monday.
The Broncos are conducting a Monday workout because they played on Thursday night in Week 15. Welker's absence is a sign that he hasn't yet been cleared for exercise. He still has a ton of time to gain full clearance, but note that this is a player with a history of head trauma and one that is recovering from two diagnosed concussions in a four-week span. Consider Welker questionable for Sunday's game against the 2-12 Texans.

Wed Dec 11 201314:38Wes Welker officially ruled out for Thursday
Wes Welker (concussion) has officially been ruled out for Thursday night's Week 15 game against the Chargers.
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported early Wednesday that Welker was not expected to play, and the Broncos made it official this afternoon. Jacob Tamme will handle slot duties. Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker will dominate targets on the outside, while Tamme and Julius Thomas work between the numbers. Tamme wouldn't be a bad plug-and-play for owners desperate for tight end help.

Wed Dec 11 201308:53Report: Wes Welker will not play on Thursday
According to FOX's Jay Glazer, Wes Welker (concussion) will not play in Thursday night's game against the Chargers.
The Broncos figure to make this official later Wednesday. Welker has sustained two concussions in the last month and had virtually no shot of gaining clearance on a short week. After Welker left last week's game against the Titans, Jacob Tamme stepped into the slot role and produced a 4/47/0 line while playing on 45-of-46 snaps. Look for similar usage in Thursday's likely shootout.
