Sun Dec 22 201320:50Gates posts three catches for 42 yards
Antonio Gates had three catches for 42 yards in Sunday's Week 16 win over the Raiders.
Gates was held out of the end-zone again the week and did all of his damage in the first two quarters. He wasn't even targeted in the second half, instead being used as a blocker for Ryan Mathews. Gates has just three touchdowns this season and hasn't topped 60 receiving yards since Week 10.

Fri Dec 20 201318:35Antonio Gates probable for Week 16
Antonio Gates (hamstring) is listed as probable for Week 16 against the Raiders.
Gates didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday for rest purposes. He's averaging just four catches for 38 yards over his last three games and will continue to be a low-end TE1 when San Diego takes on Oakland in Week 16.

Fri Dec 13 201300:37Antonio Gates held to two catches in win
Antonio Gates caught two passes for 23 yards in San Diego's Week 15 win over the Broncos.
Gates' catches were his only two looks on a night where the Bolts dialed up only 19 pass attempts. Both of Gates' grabs moved the chains on third down, but the veteran tight end has now cleared 6.2 fantasy points just once in his past nine games. Owners need to do better for the final week of the fantasy playoffs in Week 16.

Sun Dec 8 201320:24Antonio Gates held to 50 scoreless yards
Antonio Gates caught 4-of-6 targets for 50 yards in the Chargers' Week 14 win over the Giants.
Ladarius Green only saw one target and finished without a catch, so it wasn't as if another tight end was draining Gates' production. Philip Rivers simply spread the ball around, with Gates leading the team in targets and no Chargers pass catcher exceeding 59 yards. Gates will continue to be a low-end TE1 when San Diego takes on Denver in a potential Week 15 shootout.

Sun Dec 1 201320:11Antonio Gates has 5-catch day, loses fumble
Playing through a hamstring injury, Antonio Gates caught five passes for 41 yards in San Diego's Week 13 loss to the Bengals, also losing a fumble.
Gates lost another fumble, but it went down as a Philip Rivers interception because the ball never hit the ground. It was another dud of an afternoon for a player who hasn't posted more than 62 yards since Week 5. Gates is on pace for a solid 85/968/5 line, but that's largely due to the work he did in September. He's on the TE1 borderline for the fantasy playoffs.

Sun Dec 1 201315:06Antonio Gates officially active for Week 13
Antonio Gates (hamstring) is active for Week 13 against the Bengals.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gates "doesn't know how long he can go." He's a dicey TE1 for Week 13, and best left benched if you have a viable alternative. Inactive for the Chargers are LT King Dunlap, WR Eddie Royal, OLB Jarrett Johnson, SS Brandon Taylor, NT Kwame Geathers, OT Willie Smith and QB Brad Sorenson.

Sun Dec 1 201312:28Antonio Gates (hamstring) unsure of stamina
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday Countdown that Antonio Gates (hamstring, probable) "doesn't know how long he can go" in Sunday's late-afternoon game against Cincinnati.
Gates practiced fully on Friday and the probable tag suggests he's a virtual lock to be active, but the hamstring is clearly still bothering him. If Gates can't make it through a full game, Ladarius Green could be set up for a heavy increase in snaps. Green presents obvious Week 13 fantasy risk, but owners desperate at tight end can at least give him streamer consideration.

Sat Nov 30 201311:26Antonio Gates calls hamstring injury 'tricky'
Antonio Gates says his hamstring injury is "tricky" and added that if he had to play on Friday he's "not sure" he could.
The good news is Gates doesn't have to play until Sunday. "It's one of those injuries where you can't fully grasp whether or not you can do something because it's all running. Everything is based off running and power and holding off people on blocks, and the hamstring is a big part of that," Gates explained. "I'll see how it goes. I'm going to attack this rehab. I've got two more days." It's quite possible Gates will be limited this week against the Bengals. Downgrade him to a high-end TE2, while Ladarius Green gets a bump for Week 13.

Fri Nov 29 201314:29Antonio Gates returns to Chargers practice
Antonio Gates (hamstring) returned to Chargers practice Friday.
Beat writer Michael Gehlken confirms Gates is "fully expected to start Sunday," despite missing Wednesday and Thursday's sessions. Gates will be a low-end TE1 against a Cincinnati defense that has defended tight ends well this year.

Thu Nov 28 201314:47Antonio Gates still not practicing Thursday
Antonio Gates (hamstring) remained out of Chargers practice Thursday.
It's always a concern when a player misses two straight practices, but coach Mike McCoy has hinted Gates' absences are more for rest than anything else. We still expect Gates to be active for Sunday's game against the Bengals, where he'll be a borderline TE1.

Wed Nov 27 201316:11Antonio Gates (rest, hamstring) sits Weds.
Antonio Gates (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
It's a new injury for Gates, but coach Mike McCoy said Gates missed practice more for rest purposes. He shouldn't be in any danger of missing this week's game against the Bengals. If for some reason Gates were to sit, Ladarius Green would be an intriguing fantasy play as a borderline TE1/2.

Sun Nov 24 201317:27Antonio Gates can't shake Berry
Antonio Gates caught three passes for just 21 yards in Sunday's Week 12 win at Kansas City.
The Chiefs were clearly focused on Gates, hitting him at the line of scrimmage and using Eric Berry in man coverage a ton. At this point in his career, Gates just can't beat that. He won't lose as many snaps as he should to future star Ladarius Green, but he will lose some. Averaging 4.5 catches for a mere 41.1 yards with one touchdown over the last six games, Gates will be a weak TE1 against the Bengals in Week 13.

Sun Nov 17 201320:01Antonio Gates gets easy TD in loss at Miami
Antonio Gates caught four passes for 52 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 11 loss at Miami.
Gates' first quarter touchdown from five yards out was as easy as you'll ever see. He simply released from the line and the Dolphins defense didn't account for him. Gates did get in the end zone again later in the game, but Philip Rivers clearly threw the ball when already passed the line of scrimmage. Averaging 4.8 catches for 45.2 yards with one touchdown over his last five games, Gates will be a low-end TE1 at KC in Week 12.

Sun Nov 3 201319:00Antonio Gates gets six catches in win
Antonio Gates caught six passes for 53 yards in Sunday's Week 9 overtime loss to the Redskins.
It was a nondescript day for Gates, who was third on the team with 10 targets. He's now caught at least four passes in seven straight games, but has been held under 75 yards five times during that span. He just doesn't have much juice left in his legs anymore. Gates is on pace for 96 catches, 1,100 yards and four touchdowns. Those numbers are a tribute to just how well Philip Rivers is executing Mike McCoy's offense.

Sun Oct 20 201316:05Antonio Gates goes for 31 yards in Week 7
Antonio Gates caught six balls for 31 yards in the Chargers' Week 7 win over the Jaguars.
The Bolts played spread-the-wealth passing offense against the Jaguars, dinking and dunking as no Chargers pass catcher hit 70 yards. Gates led the team in catches, benefiting from a chunk of snaps missed by top wide receiver Keenan Allen. Despite slow back-to-back games and no TDs since Week 4, cling to Gates as a low-end TE1 during San Diego's Week 8 bye.

Tue Oct 15 201300:42Gates kept quiet in Week 6 win over Colts
Antonio Gates caught four passes for 28 yards in Week 6 versus the Colts.
Gates was targeted eight times on the night. His biggest grab came on a third-down conversion on the Chargers' second-quarter touchdown drive. As it tends to go with most tight ends, Gates has been pretty much boom-or-bust this season. He remains locked in as a weekly TE1. The Jaguars are up next for the Bolts.

Mon Oct 7 201304:11Gates targeted 10 times, goes for 74 yards
Antonio Gates had seven catches for 74 yards in Sunday night's Week 5 loss to Oakland.
Gates finished with a team-high 10 targets and remains the No. 1 option in the passing game. He dropped a red-zone pass that was under-thrown by Phillip Rivers in the first half and wasn't able to find the end-zone for the first time since Week 2. Gates is locked in as an every-week TE1 and already has 32 receptions for 438 yards over five games this season.

Sun Sep 29 201320:03Antonio Gates has 10/136/1 field day vs. DAL
Antonio Gates caught 10 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown in San Diego's Week 4 win over the Cowboys.
Don't call it a comeback. Gates' 10 catches were his most since he hauled in 11 on Sep. 23, 2007, while he's now on pace for a 100/1,456/8 line with 25 percent of the season in the books. Today will quite likely go down as Gates' best game of the season, but he's looked majorly refreshed in his first four games under new coach Mike McCoy. With the landscape at tight end uncertain outside of the top 9-10 players, Gates is very much an every-week TE1.

Sun Sep 22 201317:33Antonio Gates has 55 yards & TD Sunday
Antonio Gates caught five balls for 55 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' Week 3 loss to Tennessee.
Gates dominated on San Diego's first drive, one-handing a pretty pass down the sideline and getting in from seven yards out a few plays later. Unfortunately, Gates was quiet thereafter. Gates has still produced like a mid-range TE1 through three weeks, and he's looking awfully fit and moving well. Start him in fantasy leagues against the Jets in Week 4.
