Sun Nov 16 201421:02Philip Rivers: Plays Through Knee And Rib Injuries
Chargers tight end Antonio Gates said after Sunday's win over the Raiders that Rivers has been dealing with a serious rib injury for the past few weeks, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. "For those who don't know, he's been dealing with a rib injury," Gates said. "A very severe rib injury."
Rivers also appeared to suffer a knee/leg injury, which was confirmed to be a knee problem following the game, ESPN's Eric Williams reports. Furthermore, Rivers had the wind knocked out of him in the fourth quarter, and that may have aggravated the rib issue. His health will be worth keeping an eye on for Week 12 against the Rams, as the slumping Chargers quarterback looks to get back on track.

Rivers completed 22-of-34 passes for 193 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 13-6 win over the Raiders.
Rivers hooked up with Malcolm Floyd on a 22-yard touchdown in the first minute of the game, but it was a struggle from that point on. Since throwing for 313 yards and three touchdowns in Week 6, Rivers has been in a little bit of a funk over the last four games, posting a 6:6 TD:INT ratio, with two performances under 200 passing yards. Next up for the veteran QB is St. Louis, which has been better at stopping the run than pass this season.

Though Rivers injured his right (throwing) hand in Sunday's 37-0 loss to the Dolphins, the issue wasn't the reason for his third quarter exit from the contest, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Per the report, the team's decision to pull Rivers late in the third quarter was related to the score of the game, adding that there has been no long-term concern expressed regarding the quarterback's hand issue as the Chargers head into their bye week. We'll let you know if that assessment changes.
Sun Nov 2 201415:55Philip Rivers: Injures Hand
Rivers suffered a hand injury Sunday against the Dolphins, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Prior to his exit Sunday, Rivers -- who was replaced by Kellen Clemens -- had completed 12-of-23 passes for 138 yards, with three interceptions. With the Chargers on bye next week, we'll track Rivers' status as the team's Week 11 contest against the Raiders approaches.

Rivers completed 30-of-41 passes for 252 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions in Thursday's 35-21 loss to the Broncos. He added 17 yards on his only carry.
Rivers played better than the stats indicate, as he was up against an excellent Denver defense, yet only took two sacks and didn't fumble. Neither of his interceptions was especially bad, as one was partially caused by Keenan Allen slipping, while the other came on a deep heave with the Chargers down by two scores late in the game. Rivers once again worked well around a shaky offensive line, and he notably found Allen for 78 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions, albeit with 13 targets needed to get there. Of course, even with Allen breaking out for just his second big game this season, Rivers spread the ball to a bunch of receivers, with Allen, Antonio Gates, Malcom Floyd and RB Branden Oliver each getting seven or more targets. Unfortunately for Rivers, next week brings another tough road matchup, this time in Miami.

Rivers completed 17-of-31 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 23-20 loss to Kansas City. He also threw an interception.
Rivers continues to play at a high level, tossing 16 touchdowns in his last six games, although the Chiefs did a good job of keeping him in check Sunday. His lone interception came in the closing seconds, as he was trying to force a big play, with San Diego trailing. He's got a tough matchup at Denver next week, but on the flip side, the game has the potential to be a shootout.

Rivers completed 22-of-34 passes for 313 yards with three touchdowns in Sunday's 31-28 win at Oakland. He was sacked just once and did not have any turnovers.
Rivers once again did a great job spreading things around, completing at least two passes to six different players. He's been playing at an incredibly high level this season, especially since a mediocre performance in Week 1, completing over 70 percent of his passes, while tossing 14 touchdowns in the last five games. He'll look to keep things rolling next week at home against Kansas City.

Rivers had another big game in Sunday's 31-0 win over the Jets, completing 20-of-28 passes for 288 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
Rivers hurt his hand in the first half, but he didn't miss any action and it didn't seem to effect his play. In fact, he hooked up with Malcolm Floyd and Eddie Royal on a couple of nice deep balls. His interception came in the end zone, when Keenan Allen could not snag a jump ball, so it wasn't really a bad throw, as Allen just got outmuscled. San Diego finally got something positive out of the running game, as rookie Branden Oliver rushed for 114 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown. Oliver was also productive as a receiver, catching four balls for 68 yards with a touchdown, to give Rivers yet another weapon. Floyd left the game with a calf injury, but the injury didn't appear to be serious, and Rivers has been spreading things around to many different players anyway. He should be able to move the ball in Week 6, taking on a struggling Raiders' defense.

Rivers completed 29-of-39 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 33-14 win over Jacksonville.
Rivers threw two of his three touchdowns to Eddie Royal, and got Keenan Allen involved for the first time this year, hooking up with the second-year wide receiver 10 times for 135 yards. The veteran Rivers was mediocre in the season opener at Arizona, but has been sensational in three weeks since, averaging 306 yards and three touchdowns. He should have another big game in Week 5, facing an unimpressive Jets secondary.

Rivers completed 18-of-25 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding 11 rushing yards on two carries Sunday against the Bills.
Rivers connected with six different receivers, throwing both of his touchdowns to wideout Eddie Royal. Rivers has been very solid over the last two weeks, completing 74.2 percent of his passes while throwing five touchdowns with no interceptions. Up next is a solid matchup against the Jaguars, who allowed 370 passing yards and four touchdowns to the Colts in Week 3.

Rivers threw for 284 yards with three touchdowns in Sunday's 30-21 win over Seattle.
Rivers did a good job moving around in the pocket, and went to fellow veteran Antonio Gates early and often, as the pair hooked up for three touchdowns. While Rivers might not have the upside of some of the top fantasy quarterbacks, he's durable and more than capable of putting up strong numbers. He'll face another stiff test in Week 3, facing an underrated Buffalo defense.

Rivers was 21-for-36 for 238 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Monday night's loss at Arizona.
The Chargers looked out of synch for most of this game and were unable to sustain many long drives against the Cardinals. The interception looked like a miscommunication between Rivers and his receiver, but all in all, it was not a great first game for the San Diego offense.

Rivers completed 9-of-10 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's preseason game against the 49ers.
While he hasn't seen a ton of work this preseason, Rivers has done just fine with the snaps he's played. With Malcom Floyd (neck) healthy, and Donald Brown signed in the offseason, Rivers may have a slightly better supporting cast than he did last year, though the names are mostly familiar.

Rivers completed all four of his pass attempts for 61 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys.
The only way things could have gone better for Rivers would have been if Ryan Mathews didn't lose a fumble at the goal line. In any case, the 32-year-old QB bounced back in a big way last season, and he'll have a similar supporting cast this time around. Keenan Allen has a full NFL campaign under his belt, while tight end Ladarius Green is being hyped as a breakout candidate.
Sat Feb 1 201418:47Philip Rivers named Comeback Player of Year
Associated Press named Philip Rivers its 2013 Comeback Player of the Year.
People who know and understand the criteria for NFL Comeback POY will understand this pick. People who don't and think you have to be "coming back" from injury, won't. Rivers was widely written off as a shell-shocked rag-arm quarterback in steep decline after back-to-back brutal seasons under Norv Turner, but reemerged as a top-eight NFL passer in 2013 and engineered a Wild Card playoff birth, with a first-round upset of Cincinnati. Mike McCoy deserves a lot of credit for Rivers' turnaround. Frank Reich and Ken Whisenhunt both parlayed it into job promotions.

Sun Jan 12 201420:00Philip Rivers closes out impressive season
Philip Rivers completed 18-of-27 throws for 217 yards and two touchdowns as San Diego fell to Denver in the Divisional Round.
Rivers absorbed three early sacks as Denver's light, quick defensive front won against San Diego's mauling but athletically-limited line. As the sacks amounted to 19 lost yards, the Chargers entered halftime with one passing yard as a team. (Rivers had 20.) San Diego fell behind 17-0 in the third quarter and was forced to sling it around, finally generating some offense. Rivers hit Keenan Allen for twin 16-yard touchdowns in the fourth quarter. That obviously wasn't enough as San Diego was dominated in almost every facet by Denver. Showing virtually every indication of a washed-up quarterback the past two years under Norv Turner, Rivers rejuvenated his career in AFC QB Whisperer Mike McCoy's high-percentage, quick-hitting pass offense. His 105.5 QB rating matched a career high, and Rivers' 11 interceptions were his fewest since 2009. Still only 32 years old, Rivers will be a locked-in fantasy QB1 for 2014.

Sun Jan 5 201416:41Rivers manages game well as Chargers roll
Philip Rivers completed 12-of-16 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' Wild Card round win at Cincinnati.
The Chargers came out of the tunnel with a decidedly run-first game plan designed to milk clock, avoid Cincy's ferocious pass rush, and keep San Diego's soft defense off the field. The result was a measly six first-half pass attempts for Rivers, who completed five for 48 scoreless yards. The six throws tied Rivers' career low in a first half. The Chargers opened up the offense a bit from there, as Rivers completed his first six third-quarter attempts for 68 yards and a touchdown. San Diego then sat on its lead. Despite the slow overall box score, Rivers showed infinitely more command than Andy Dalton on Sunday and will be the biggest advantage San Diego has to offer throughout its playoff run. Rivers deserves to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year in a landslide.

Sun Dec 29 201320:06Rivers throws 3 TDs as Chargers make playoffs
Philip Rivers completed 22-of-33 passes for 229 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in the Chargers' Week 17 overtime win over Kansas City.
The Chargers nearly blew a gimme win over Kansas City's second- and third-string defenders, but Rivers rallied the offense to 13 unanswered points to close out the game 27-24. Rivers deserves serious consideration for 2013 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. He was widely written off as washed up following two interception-filled, atrocious seasons, but bounced back in a major way under the tutelage of emerging offensive wizard Mike McCoy. Rivers finished the regular season with 4,478 passing yards and a 32:11 TD-to-INT ratio. His completion rate was easily a career high. Rivers will be a top-ten quarterback pick in 2014 fantasy drafts.

Sun Dec 29 201315:31Chiefs resting 11-of-11 starters on defense
The Chiefs announced they are resting all 11 defensive starters for Sunday's Week 17 clash with San Diego.
They are also benching 9-of-11 starters on offense, giving Philip Rivers expansion-level competition in the final game of San Diego's regular season. Rivers, Ryan Mathews, and Keenan Allen ought to all have big box scores facing a Chiefs defense comprised of second- and third-string players.
