Tue Jun 19 201210:22Richard Marshall likely to begin year in slot
Dolphins DB Richard Marshall will likely begin the year in the slot.
Marshall apparently won't push RCB Sean Smith for a starting job, and the Dolphins aren't inclined to use him at safety for the time being. "I feel I could play wherever they need me, whether it's corner, nickel or safety," Marshall said. Even if he's not technically a starter, Marshall will see plenty of snaps after landing $6 million guaranteed.

Tue Apr 3 201211:08AZ 'didn't come close' to re-signing Marshall
According to the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals didn't view DB Richard Marshall as a starter before letting him sign with Miami, and "didn't come close" to matching the Dolphins' three-year, $16 million offer.
Coming off a season where he saw heavy snaps at both corner and safety, the Cards were apparently focusing on Marshall as their third cornerback. He's expected to get a chance to start in Miami.

Tue Mar 27 201216:08Richard Marshall to play cornerback in Miami
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin made it clear Tuesday that Richard Marshall will play cornerback in Miami.
Marshall played quite a bit of free safety last season in Arizona, but he will compete for a starting job at corner with the Fins. RCB Sean Smith should consider himself on notice. For now, the Dolphins plan to let Chris Clemons, Reshad Jones, and Tyrone Culver battle it out for the two safety positions.

Wed Mar 14 201222:53CB Marshall offered Cards chance to match
Newly signed Dolphins DB Richard Marshall says he gave the Cardinals a chance to match Miami's three-year, $16 million offer.
Marshall says he even went as far to call the Cardinals himself, but they declined. Capable of playing almost anywhere in the secondary, Marshall is a big loss for a team that sported an improved pass defense in 2011.

Wed Mar 14 201221:54Dolphins sign DB Marshall to three-year deal
Dolphins signed DB Richard Marshall to a three-year, $16 million contract, including $6 million guaranteed.
A cornerback in name, Marshall played outside, in the slot, and at safety last season as coordinator Ray Horton's anointed defensive MVP. With Vontae Davis and Sean Smith established at corner, Marshall will likely fill the void at free safety in Miami. It's a strong signing, and one the Cardinals may have made if not for Peyton Manning's drawn-out recruiting process.

Sat Feb 18 201219:58Cardinals looking to re-sign Richard Marshall
A team source tells Pro Football Weekly that re-signing Richard Marshall is one of the Cardinals' top priorities this offseason.
Marshall was a free-agent pickup last offseason but ended up starting at both cornerback and safety after Kerry Rhodes missed nine games due to injury. His three interceptions and 78 tackles ranked first and third on the Cardinals respectively. Marshall is likely to see a raise from $3.5 million he earned last season.

Fri Dec 30 201117:09Horton: Marshall is Cardinals' Defensive MVP
Defensive coordinator Ray Horton described CB Richard Marshall as the Cardinals' "most valuable player" on defense this season.
Marshall showed impressive versatility in his first season with Arizona, first supplanting A.J. Jefferson as the team's starting left cornerback and then moving to safety in many defensive packages to help compensate for FS Kerry Rhodes' broken foot. Marshall is in a contract year, so Horton is helping his free agent stock. Entering Week 17, Marshall has racked up 71 tackles, ten pass breakups, two sacks, and two interceptions.

Mon Nov 7 201112:16Richard Marshall starts over Jefferson
Richard Marshall has replaced A.J. Jefferson as a starting corner.
Marshall came on for a struggling Jefferson in Week 8 and then started ahead of him in Week 9. In nickel and dime packages, Marshall moved to safety and Jefferson came on as a corner. The Cardinals rank 29th against the pass through eight games.

Sun Oct 2 201118:52Richard Marshall suffers quadriceps injury
Cardinals CB Richard Marshall is doubtful to return after suffering a quadriceps injury midway through the fourth quarter in Sunday's Week 4 game against the Giants.
Marshall has held his own the first three weeks, so his loss could loom large as this game projects to go down to the wire. He'll likely be replaced by Michael Adams when the Cardinals D takes the field again.

Sat Jul 30 201110:42Marshall heading to Cardinals?
Free agent CB Richard Marshall tweeted Saturday morning that he is on his way to Arizona.
No official word yet, but it sounds like Marshall is going to help fill the void left by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Marshall was beaten like a drum in Carolina, but has enough talent to at least be a third corner. He's started 32 games for the Panthers over the last two years, recording seven picks.

Fri Jul 15 201116:1449ers could have interest in CB Marshall
Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area suspects that the 49ers could have interest in free agent Richard Marshall.
Maiocco suggested Marshall would be the one player San Francisco might target if they make any "splash" in free agency. The best 49ers beat writer in the business, Maiocco is too clued in for there not to be at least some fire behind this smoke. This year's free agent cornerback crop is extremely deep, which could bring down a second- or third-tier CB like Marshall's price tag.

Tue Jun 28 201109:43Richard Marshall expected to leave Carolina
The Charlotte Observer confirms that free agent CB Richard Marshall is "expected" to play elsewhere in 2011.
The Panthers tendered Marshall in March, but there was never a good chance he'd return. The 26-year-old struggled along with the entire Carolina franchise last year, defending the run well but allowing over 75 percent of his intended targets to be completed, per Pro Football Focus. Marshall is still a salvageable talent. He'd make a lot of sense for a team that runs Cover 2.

Wed Mar 2 201119:47Panthers tender six players as RFAs
Panthers extended restricted free agent tenders to CB Richard Marshall, TE Jeff King, LB James Anderson, QB Matt Moore, S Marcus Hudson, and WR David Clowney.
All of the above players have at least four accrued seasons, so none of the tenders is likely to stick. The level of the tenders is also unknown. Marshall is thought to be especially likely to exit Carolina. A five-year vet, the 26-year-old has sought a long-term extension for the last three offseasons.

Mon Jan 3 201113:18Marshall not expecting offer from Panthers
Panthers RCB Richard Marshall said, "The indications that I'm getting are that I'm not going to be here next year."
Marshall held out of minicamp last offseason to protest not getting a long-term deal. And after talking with agent Drew Rosenhaus last week, he's ready to move on. The five-year veteran will attract significant attention on the open market as a starting-caliber corner.

Tue Dec 28 201010:56Marshall would like to stay in Carolina
Panthers RCB Richard Marshall, an impending unrestricted free agent, would like to stay in Carolina if the Panthers are willing to give him a multi-year deal.
"If I got a long-term deal to stay here I would sign it on the first day," Marshall said. The Panthers have previously given no indication that they want to lock him up long-term, so it remains to be seen if their stance will change now that Marshall will be free to sign with any team.

Tue Jun 8 201017:32Richard Marshall signs tender offer
Panthers re-signed restricted free agent CB Richard Marshall to a one-year, $1.759 million tender.
Marshall has been participating in spring practices via an injury waiver. He could be entering his last season with the Panthers. There's been no indication that Carolina wants to lock him up long term, and they also have DeAngelo Williams, Thomas Davis, and center Ryan Kalil slated to hit unrestricted free agency next offseason.

Tue May 25 201014:51Marshall plans to sign tender offer
Unsigned restricted free agent CB Richard Marshall indicted Tuesday that he plans to sign his tender offer soon.
Marshall is participating in practice via an injury waiver. He said he's no longer concerned about getting a long-term deal and was never "angry" with the Panthers. Coach John Fox does not believe that Marshall will be a distraction this summer.

Tue May 25 201009:17Richard Marshall hasn't signed tender
Updating a previous item, restricted free agent CB Richard Marshall has not signed his one-year, $1.759 million tender.
He's participating in OTAs with the protection of an injury waiver. Not signing the actual tender will allow Marshall to skip further mandatory work without fear of a fine, so his "holdout" may not be over yet. He's just not going to get his desired long-term contract from the league's stingiest team.
