Spiller, about to become a free agent, appeared on the NFL Network on Tuesday and said he won't be returning to Buffalo. He also said the Bills called him and thanked him for his service following the LeSean McCoy trade, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
The Bills traded for McCoy on Tuesday afternoon and paid a high price to do so, both in terms of salary and in giving up Kiko Alonso. Spiller already seemed like he was ready to look elsewhere anyway, but given how much he'd cost to bring back into the mix, there's no way the Bills are spending that kind of additional money at the running back position.

GM Doug Whaley and coach Rex Ryan have expressed a desire to keep Spiller - who will be a free agent this offseason - in the mix, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said Whaley, "We believe so and we're going to try to do our darndest to get this guy in the fold and get him back. I'm sure he's disappointed with how last year went with the injuries, but we want him to come back with us and get back to the form we know he can play at."
Spiller's value on the open market could be all over the board, as he has a fantastic skill set, yet he's coming off one horrible season in 2014 and a mildly disappointing one in 2013. Plus, running backs continue to see devaluation in free agency. Should he return to Buffalo, Ryan and new offensive coordinator Greg Roman like to run, run, run, so it'd be intriguing if Spiller was given a chance to compete for the lead back role.

Spiller will head into the 2015 as a free agent for the first time in his career, BuffaloBills.com reports.
Spiller is coming off a second straight disappointing season, the most recent one marred by a collarbone injury that shut him down for seven-plus games and a poor 3.85 YPC in the rest. His 300 rushing yards and 125 receiving yards are a huge disappointment considering where he was selected in most fantasy drafts. That said, his overall skill set remains strong and he's young enough for a bounce-back campaign if ends up in the right place. That could even mean a return to Buffalo, if the money and new coaching staff fit Spiller's and his agent's plans.

Spiller ran five times for 17 yards in Sunday's win over New England. He caught one of two targets for just two yards.
While it was good to see Spiller get some action in the last two games following an eight-game absence with a collarbone injury, this season was a dud, and he now seems two levels removed from his 2012 season, when he put up 1,703 yards from scrimmage with an incredible 6.01 yards per carry. We think Spiller still has it, just not in this offense. It'll be interesting to see if the Bills make a run at him now that he's about to be a free agent. The team has seen what he can do and everything suggests he's a good teammate and coachable, yet Fred Jackson might be back for yet another year and the Bills could simply decide Spiller's not worth what the market will bear. With the Bills still looking for answers on the offensive line, those in deeper leagues might be better off if he ends up elsewhere, though he may not be big enough for anyone to make him a three-down player.

Seeing his first action since Week 7, Spiller (collarbone) rushed four times for an unsightly minus-4 yards during Sunday's loss to Oakland. He caught all four of his targets for 14 yards.
Spiller was used more than Boobie Dixon but much less than Fred Jackson, and as suspected, didn't see the volume to have any form of fantasy payoff in such a crucial week. He might be used a little more next week at New England, though it's clear he's still shaking off some rust and he'd be a total dart of a fantasy play given the opponent and his role working behind Jackson.

Spiller (collarbone) is active for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
With some uncertainty regarding Spiller's potential workload in his return to the Bills' backfield -- with Fred Jackson and Anthony Dixon also in the mix -- he's a speculative Week 16 play, but a respectable showing Sunday on Spiller's part would put him back on the fantasy map in advance of the team's regular season finale.

The Bills have officially added Spiller (collarbone) to their 53-man roster in advance of Sunday's game against the Raiders, the team's official site reports.
Spiller -- who last suited up on Oct. 19 -- is thus eligible to play this weekend and is listed as probable on the Bills' Week 16 injury report after practicing in a limited fashion Friday. Assuming he is active Sunday, there would be plenty of uncertainly with regard Spiller's potential workload in his return to the Bills' backfield mix, making him a speculative play this weekend.

The Bills have submitted paperwork to the NFL to add Spiller (collarbone) back to 53-man roster, according to ESPN's Mike Rodak.
Whether this happens Friday or Saturday, it sounds like the Bills will be adding Spiller back to the mix. Coach Doug Marrone will then decide how much, if any, Week 16 action Spiller will see. If he does suit up Sunday in Oakland, he comes with a ton of warnings while playing on a team that's already using three other running backs, though it'd be good to see him receive some action this week, as he could be a possible Week 17 option for running back-desperate folk.

Spiller (collarbone) looked to be running in decent shape during Thursday's practice, The Buffalo News reports. Said coach Doug Marrone, "I think he looks good. He really does. It's just a matter of waiting until the end of the week and making a move there. The only concern I have is it's not really being in shape, but to be able to play and run plays in and out, in and out, in and out and to make sure his conditioning is right at that level. It seems to be okay. I think it will just get better. I know he looks explosive. He's moving well."
Obviously, Spiller is getting close. While we won't know for sure his status for the Week 16 contest against the Raiders until as late as Saturday, it does sound like he'll be seeing action again this season even though it was initially feared his campaign was over. That said, even if active this week he'd be an incredibly risky option with three other backs in tow who are likely in much better game shape right now.

Spiller (collarbone) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday, the Bills' official site reports.
wgr550.com relays that the Bills don't have to make a decision whether to officially activate Spiller -- who coach Doug Marrone said looked good Wednesday -- from IR/designated to return until Saturday. Meanwhile, the running back himself is in a wait-and-see mode with regard to his chances of playing Sunday against the Raiders. "I'll see how I feel tomorrow when I come in," Spiller noted after Wednesday's practice. "Hopefully it's a good sign. If it is, we'll keep plugging away and hopefully we'll reach a decision and go from there."
Mon Dec 15 201415:11C.J. Spiller: Will Be Added To Active Roster
Spiller, currently on IR/designated to return after suffering a collarbone injury during Week 7, will be added back to the active roster this week. The running back is eligible to play this week against the Raiders, though Doug Marrone will first see how Spiller practices this week.
The Bills haven't gotten anything great from the running back position since Spiller and Fred Jackson both got hurt in the same game, as Jackson seems to be doing the best he can but has lost some explosiveness. And the other two options - Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown - have had their ups and downs. You'd really need to be hurting to expect Spiller to come in Week 16 and get a full load of carries, but he may be worth a dart for a deep bench if you know you're going to be working through the usual Week 17 guesswork.

Spiller, who was placed on IR/designated to return after suffering a collarbone injury during Week 7, is practicing Wednesday on his first day eligible.
Spiller can't return until Week 16 at Oakland, but that's increasingly becoming a possibility. That said, the Bills have three healthy backs already in the mix and it seems doubtful they'd take him directly from IR to bell cow back. The one week dart-throwers might want to have their eye on is Week 17 at New England. If the Bills are out of the playoff chase by then, they could conceivably give Spiller a bunch of carries just to help them make a better informed decision now that his contract is starting to wind down.
Mon Dec 1 201419:52Spiller
Spiller, who was placed on I-R designated to return after suffering a collarbone injury during Week 7, has been making good progress in his recovery and the team seems to think he can return before the end of the season, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said coach Doug Marrone, "We're hoping to see C.J. to start coming back. That designation is coming up."
Spiller is eligible to return to practice this week and game action for the Week 16 matchup in Oakland, though neither of those is a certainty at this stage. Also, he'd probably be part of a three- or four-man rotation. That all said, Spiller is filled with skills, so if the Bills suffer one or two running back injuries over the next two games, he might be worth a late-season dart.
Tue Nov 4 201402:00Spiller
Spiller, who suffered a shoulder/collarbone injury in Week 7 and was placed on short-term IR, thinks he can still play this season, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said the running back, "I don't want to put a percentage on it. I'm just taking it one day at a time. Everything is looking good and feeling good. So rehab is going really well, so I don't want to put the chance of anything on it. If I'm good to go I'll go."
If the Bills keep winning they'll be a factor in the playoff race, so there's a small chance Spiller can help. That said, he's only eligible to play one regular season game, and that's the always difficult road contest at New England. In other words, he's not worth stashing away on your roster for several weeks in the hope that he can play a minor role in just one game, and that's a best-case scenario.

Spiller (collarbone) was placed on the Bills' injured reserve/designated to return list Tuesday.
Spiller underwent surgery Monday for a broken clavicle that could keep him out until next season. However, given his placement on the designated to return list Tuesday, health permitting, Spiller will be eligible to return in Week 16. With Fred Jackson (groin) also injured for the coming weeks, a combination of Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown is expected to fuel the Bills' running game, and Phillip Tanner was brought in Tuesday to add another backfield option as well.

Coach Doug Marrone confirmed Monday that Spiller underwent surgery to repair his clavicle.
Per ESPN's Mike Rodak, the Bills haven't decided yet whether or not Spiller will be placed on IR, but obviously the running back is out indefinitely. With Fred Jackson also in line to miss time, the team's Week 8 backfield will be headed by a combo of Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon, with the Bills also considering adding another back to their practice squad.
Sun Oct 19 201418:42C.J. Spiller: Sidelined By Collarbone Injury
After being diagnosed with a broken collarbone, Spiller is slated to undergo surgery Monday, according to ESPN.com.
In any case, coach Doug Marrone confirmed Sunday that Spiller will be out an "indefinite" amount of time and with Fred Jackson dealing with a groin injury, it looks like the Bills may have to turn to a combo of Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown next Sunday against the Jets, and possibly beyond.
Sun Oct 19 201414:59C.J. Spiller: Possible Broken Collarbone
According to CBS's Jason LaCanfora, the initial diagnosis of the injury that Spiller suffered Sunday is a broken collarbone.
We'll await confirmation of the report, but with Fred Jackson slated for MRI on his groin, the Bills will turn to Anthony Dixon on Sunday, with Bryce Brown now a candidate to enter the team's backfield mix next week.
Sun Oct 19 201414:23C.J. Spiller: Carted Off with Shoulder Injury
Spiller suffered an apparent left shoulder injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game against Minnesota, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
Spiller ripped off a 52-yard run, but came up grabbing his shoulder after hitting the ground hard on the tackle. The training staff brought a cart out almost immediately to carry him off, and Spiller left with a towel hanging over his head in an unfortunate reenactment of Fred Jackson being carted off earlier in the quarter. With Spiller and Jackson both in the locker room with injuries, Boobie Dixon is all that is left at running back for the Bills.

Spiller had six carries for 19 yards, failed to catch the only pass thrown his way and lost a fumble Sunday against the Patriots.
While the Bills' backfield struggled as a whole, Spiller was easily the worst of the bunch, as Fred Jackson had 45 total yards and a touchdown and third-stringer Anthony Dixon had 23 rushing yards on seven carries. Spiller has yet to break 70 rushing yards this season and his only offensive touchdown came through the air in Week 1 against the Bears. His 27 rushing yards on 16 carries over the last two games are making fantasy owners move him to their benches, and while he has a decent matchup in Week 7 against the Vikings, he's just not getting enough touches to warrant starting in many fantasy leagues.
