Wed May 14 201410:01Bills tried to trade up for RB Carlos Hyde
The Bills tried to trade up in the second round to select Ohio State RB Carlos Hyde.
The Bills couldn't make a deal work before the 49ers took Hyde at No. 57 overall, so they settled for a Bryce Brown trade. Regardless, their dogged pursuit of running back help doesn't instill much long-term confidence in C.J. Spiller, who can opt out of rookie contract after this season. Fred Jackson is 33 years old and in the final year of his deal as well.

C.J. Spiller said there's no timetable for when he expects to begin extension talks.
Spiller is still in the process of hiring an agent, but contract talks between him and the Bills could heat up later this month. GM Doug Whaley hinted at his pre-draft press conference that Spiller and Marcell Dareus could both be signed to new deals prior to training camp. Spiller is scheduled to make $3.5 million in 2014 and can opt-out of rookie contract after this season.

Sat Apr 26 201414:54Bills considering extension for C.J. Spiller
The Bills are considering a contract extension for C.J. Spiller after the draft.
Spiller has two years remaining on his contract, but the Bills could get a long-term deal done prior to training camp. It's possible Spiller's injury history could complicate talks, though Buffalo has $13.5 million in cap space to work with. Spiller is set to make $3.5 million in 2014.

Wed Mar 26 201414:51C.J. Spiller says ankle is 'responding well'
C.J. Spiller said his ankle has been "responding pretty well" since the season ended.
"Being able to plant and cut so I definitely feel that explosion coming back to how I was in 2012," Spiller said. Spiller is training out in California and has been joined by teammate E.J. Manuel this week. The two are working on some things and getting "some timing down." Spiller sounds as if he's still not 100 percent over his high-ankle sprain but should be there in plenty of time for training camp. The Bills need to get more creative with Spiller in 2014. If he can touch the ball 12-15 times per game, Spiller will be a huge bounce-back candidate.

Sun Dec 15 201318:20Spiller runs for 67 yards on 13 totes in win
C.J. Spiller rushed for 67 yards on 13 carries in Week 15 against the Jaguars.
Spiller caught just one pass for a one-yard gain. He appeared to injure his ankle again on a run when he was tackled by his shoelaces. Spiller was mere inches away from breaking it off for a long touchdown. He and Fred Jackson split time pretty evenly. Spiller will be a boom-or-bust RB2 next week against the Dolphins. You simply can't leave his game-breaking legs on your bench.

Thu Nov 28 201307:57C.J. Spiller: I'm getting back to my old self
Speaking Wednesday, C.J. Spiller said he "definitely" feels like he's "getting back to my old self."
Spiller was held to six yards on 13 carries by the Jets' elite run defense prior to the Week 12 bye. That disaster is firmly in the rearview mirror as his ankle should be near 100 percent and the Bills face the Falcons' No. 28 run defense this week. "I feel good," Spiller said. "I definitely feel like I'm getting back to my old self, making the cuts, making that explosion." Our Patrick Daugherty has ranked Spiller 24th and Fred Jackson 20th among running backs this week.

Sun Nov 17 201316:10Jets stifle C.J. Spiller: 15 touches, 16 yds
C.J. Spiller was held to six yards on 13 carries and two catches for ten yards in the Bills' Week 11 win over the Jets.
If there was one positive takeaway we saw in Spiller's performance, it's that his ankle now appears legitimately healthy. The Jets' defense simply deserves a major hat tip for keeping him bottled up throughout the game. Spiller didn't limp after his touches; he just couldn't get any running room on the perimeter, where he frequently tried to bounce, as usual. The Bills now have a Week 12 bye. Spiller has a very favorable fantasy playoffs schedule thereafter, where he will continue to be a boom-or-bust RB2/flex play.

Mon Nov 11 201315:34Marrone: Spiller's usage not about ankle
Bills coach Doug Marrone claims C.J. Spiller's limited usage Sunday "(didn't) have anything to do with his ankle."

Sun Nov 10 201318:26C.J. Spiller's ankle still problematic?
WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes C.J. Spiller's high ankle sprain is still an issue.
Spiller managed just 23 rushing yards in Sunday's game against a Steelers defense that entered ranked 31st versus the run. Buscaglia noticed Spiller "standing on the sidelines more often than not," a fact that wasn't helped by Buffalo's tailback rotation and inability to sustain drives. Despite coach Doug Marrone's pre-Week 10 claims that Spiller is back to 100 percent, he's not. And he may not be until after the Bills' Week 12 bye. They face the Jets next.

Sun Nov 10 201316:47Spiller totals 34 yards against Steelers
C.J. Spiller rushed eight times for 23 yards and caught three passes for 11 yards in the Bills' Week 10 loss to Pittsburgh.
Spiller started the game but rotated with Fred Jackson, who finished with 15 touches to Spiller's 11. Spiller's boom-or-bust style of running combined with Buffalo's backfield timeshare could make him a hit-or-miss fantasy option going forward, despite his mammoth week-to-week upside. The Bills face the Jets next. Earlier in the season, Rex Ryan's defense held Spiller to nine yards on ten carries.

Thu Nov 7 201317:54C.J. Spiller 'very close' to full health
Speaking Thursday, C.J. Spiller said he's "very close" to where he wants to be physically.
In the eyes of the Bills, Spiller is 100 percent, as he was removed from this week's injury report. Spiller said he's not all the way back, but as close as he's been since first hurting his ankle. "Just little twinges here and there," Spiller said. "The good thing is that it calms down a whole lot quicker than what it had done in the past. That's the encouraging part." As healthy as he's been since Week 2 and ticketed for a bigger workload, Spiller is back on the RB2 map.

Wed Nov 6 201314:03Bills 'excited' to get Spiller more touches
Coach Doug Marrone said he's excited to get C.J. Spiller more touches after he was removed from the injury report Wednesday.
Spiller's ankle injury is "behind him," and the Bills appear ready to unleash him. Marrone says Spiller's usage is still a "matter of game plan," but look for him to improve on his 11.6 touches-per-game average from the past three games. Spiller averaged 18.75 touches per game the first four weeks of the season before going down in Week 5. He's squarely back on the RB2 radar.

Mon Nov 4 201314:17Coach: C.J. Spiller (ankle) feels 'good'
Speaking Monday, Bills coach Doug Marrone intimated C.J. Spiller (ankle) escaped Sunday's loss without setbacks.
Specifically, Marrone said Spiller felt "good." Spiller himself said the same thing on Sunday. He's going to be a go for Week 10 against the Steelers, and likely closer to 100 percent than he was against Kansas City. Finally rounding back to full health, Spiller is shaping up as an upside RB3, with room to grow.

Mon Nov 4 201308:06Spiller very encouraged by Sunday's output
C.J. Spiller (ankle) said his performance in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs was "very encouraging."
Despite limping off the field a few times, Spiller rushed 12 times for 116 yards. "It's still not there, but it's definitely very close," he said of his ankle. His 14 total touches were the most he's been able to handle since a Week 4 win over the Ravens. "My cutting ability and exploding off it was good, but tomorrow'll be a good day to see how it responds," he said. It doesn't sound like Spiller is thinking about taking any more time off ahead of a Week 10 game at Pittsburgh. The bye is in Week 12.
