Sat Aug 30 201412:37Thomas released by Dolphins
Thomas has been released by the Dolphins, the Sun Sentinel reports.
With the move, Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno remain the Dolphins' two top options at running back, with Damien Williams apparently in line to claim the team's No. 3 slot. Thomas is now a candidate to catch on elsewhere as a depth back.

Thomas (hamstring) will make his preseason debut in Thursday's finale versus the Rams, the Miami Herald reports.
Thomas has missed the entire preseason to date because of a hamstring issue. Although he was finally able to return to practice Monday, Thomas' roster spot is no longer a certainty. Knowshon Moreno and Lamar Miller are the Dolphins' clear-cut top running backs, while undrafted rookie Damien Williams and Mike Gillislee (knee) are vying for the No. 3 position. With that crowded backfield, Thomas may need a strong showing on Thursday to secure a place on Miami's regular season squad.
Mon Aug 25 201419:59Thomas (hamstring) returned to practice Monday
Thomas (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.
This could be a case of too little to late, as Thomas is certainly on the roster bubble. With Knowshon Moreno returning to action over the weekend and Lamar Miller having a strong camp, even if Thomas does make the team, he won't be seeing too much playing time on game day.

The Dolphins hope that Thomas (hamstring) returns to action for Thursday's preseason finale against the Rams, Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post reports.
While Thomas was riding the pine for a third game in a row, Knowshon Moreno rushed with authority in his Dolphins debut, posting 64 yards on 10 carries and generally providing Ryan Tannehill with excellent pass protection. Meanwhile, current No. 1 back Lamar Miller was steady -- seven rushes for 34 yards and two receptions for three yards -- while undrafted free agent Orleans Darkwa impressed to the tune of 70 yards on six runs and 24 yards on three catches. If Thomas fails to play prior to Week 1, he'd be hard-pressed to hold much fantasy utility right off the bat.
Sat Aug 23 201419:34Daniel Thomas: (Hamstring) Inactive Saturday
Thomas (hamstring) is inactive Saturday against the Cowboys.
Missing his third consecutive contest, Thomas is well behind Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno (knee) in the running back pecking order at this point. Moreno is making his Dolphins debut Saturday, thereby placing Thomas a distant third as the regular season approaches.
Fri Aug 22 201416:09Thomas (hamstring) unlikely to play Saturday against Cowboys
Thomas (hamstring) is unlikely to play Saturday against the Cowboys, the Palm Beach Post reports.
On the plus side, the Dolphins expect Thomas to be available for the team's preseason finale next Thursday. A solid effort in that contest would no doubt go a long way toward helping Thomas cement a spot in the Miami backfield, but either way, he's decidedly behind both Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno in the Dolphins' RB pecking order.
Mon Aug 18 201414:30Thomas (hamstring strain) spotted at Monday's practice
Thomas (hamstring strain) was spotted at Monday's practice, Omar Kelly of the South-Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Though not reflected by the team's posted unofficial depth chart, at this stage, Thomas is behind Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno in the Dolphins' RB pecking order. His return to the field does, however, boost Thomas' chances of retaining a roster spot, with the likes of Damien Williams and Mike Gillislee also jostling for slotting at the position.

Thomas (hamstring) did not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers.
Now that Knowshon Moreno (knee) is clearly on track to be ready by Week 1, Thomas is no better than No. 3 on the depth chart, and is likely on the roster bubble. Mike Gillislee (knee), who also missed Saturday's game, is Thomas' primary competitor for a roster spot.
Sun Aug 10 201413:37Thomas (hamstring) not practicing Sunday
Thomas (hamstring) is not practicing Sunday, Omar Kelly of the South-Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
We'll consider Thomas, who sat out Friday's preseason contest, day-to-day for now, but with Knowshon Moreno back on the field, Thomas presumably slots in no higher than No. 3 in the Dolphins' actual RB pecking order behind both Lamar Miller and Moreno.
Wed Aug 6 201416:49Thomas (hamstring) missed practice once again Wednesday
Thomas (hamstring) missed practice once again Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.
There has been plenty of speculation this off-season that Thomas could end up being cut before the regular season begins. Now that Knowshon Moreno has returned to camp the pressure may could be even higher on Thomas to practice and prove he can help the team this season.
Tue Aug 5 201414:18Thomas dealing with hamstring issue
Thomas is dealing with a hamstring issue, the Palm Beach Post reports.
The report suggests that Thomas could miss multiple practices, which implies that he could be in danger of missing Friday's preseason opener in Atlanta.
Mon Aug 4 201417:25Thomas' teammate
In the wake of Knowshon Moreno's injury, Thomas' teammate, Lamar Miller, has so far retained the Dolphins' starting running back slot, the Miami Herald reports.
The reports suggests that Thomas has been solid, but unspectacular in training camp so far, noting that he is being pushed for RB slotting on the Miami depth chart by Mike Gillislee. In any case, once Moreno is able to return to practice, Thomas figures to be no better than the team's No. 3 option at the position, assuming Miller's health at that time.

Mon Jun 9 201418:03Daniel Thomas on the roster bubble
The Palm Beach Post believes Daniel Thomas is on the roster bubble in Miami.
Tweeted beat writer Andrew Abramson, "I'd be surprised if he keeps a roster spot unless Dolphins like his experience for one more season." Experience would indeed be the only reason Miami kept Thomas, who's been painfully ineffective through three NFL seasons. He's currently working with the Dolphins' third-team offense, behind first-teamer Lamar Miller and backup Knowshon Moreno. Mike Gillislee and rookie Damien Williams are putting heat on Thomas' spot.

Sun May 25 201416:42Daniel Thomas to keep 2014 roster spot?
The Miami Herald expects fourth-year RB Daniel Thomas to "stick around another year."
We've been hoping rookie GM Dennis Hickey would finally admit the mistake of ex-GM Jeff Ireland, who traded up to draft Thomas in the 2011 second round, but the Fins aren't exactly deep at tailback. Thomas would have to get outplayed by Mike Gillislee and/or UDFA Damien Williams to outright lose his roster spot. Knowshon Moreno and Lamar Miller appear locked in as the top-two backs.

Tue Apr 1 201410:01Daniel Thomas likely done with Dolphins
The Miami Herald doesn't expect Daniel Thomas to make the Dolphins team in 2014.
Thomas is entering the final year of his rookie deal. After the addition of Knowshon Moreno and the presence of younger and arguably more talented backs Lamar Miller and Mike Gillislee, Thomas doesn't have a spot. The Dolphins are also expected to draft another back. Thomas doesn't do anything well as a runner and doesn't play special teams. His value to a team is minimal.

Sat Mar 29 201413:36Gillislee and Thomas competing for one spot
Following the signing of Knowshon Moreno, Dolphins RBs Daniel Thomas and Mike Gillislee are likely competing for one roster spot.
We would peg Gillislee as the favorite to keep his job. Thomas has been a colossal disappointment after being drafted in the second-round of the 2011 draft by former GM Jeff Ireland. Gillislee only saw six carries in 2013, but he at least still has the potential to develop into something useful. Thomas' days in Miami are likely coming to a close.

Fri Dec 27 201314:52Daniel Thomas listed as questionable
Daniel Thomas (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 17.
Thomas played through a questionable tag in last week's loss to Bufalo, gaining all of nine yards on ten touches. The Dolphins would be better off committing to Lamar Miller in a bigger role this week against the Jets, but have shown no indications that it's a likely approach throughout the season.

Thu Dec 26 201319:29Daniel Thomas back at practice Thursday
Daniel Thomas (ankle) returned to Dolphins practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.
Thomas is on track to suit up against the Jets after escaping Sunday's loss to the Bills without further injury. He'll be a dreadful option in daily leagues.
