Jackson had seven carries for 61 yards and caught three passes for 13 yards in Sunday's overtime win at Chicago.
Jackson made a couple of big plays, including a long rush of 38 yards. He also saw most of the red zone work, although C.J. Spiller caught a seven-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Spiller finished with eight more carries than Jackson, although the veteran runner was much more effective on a per-play basis. If Jackson can stay healthy at 33-years old, expect him to be heavily involved most weeks, although the distribution of carries remains to be seen.

Jackson's teammate Boobie Dixon is listed as questionable for Week 1 due to a hamstring injury.
If Dixon were to miss the game, it gives Jackson a slight upgrade because he'd be more likely to see any goal-line carries, something he's done well with before but an area where the Bills seem to really like Dixon.

Jackson gained 27 yards on six carries and 28 yards on seven receptions in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.
This might be the only time we see a running back catch seven passes in the first half of a preseason game, but the odd stat line really has no significance. Jackson and C.J. Spiller figure to split the workload, and with Spiller believed to be at full health, the 33-year-old Jackson will likely have the lesser share. Both backs are active in the passing game, and Jackson figures to get most of the goal-line carries. Bryce Brown, who struggled in Saturday's game, may be a threat to poach a bit of work from both running backs.
Wed Jul 30 201418:33Jackson given one-year contract extension with Bills on Wednesda...
Jackson was given a one-year contract extension with the Bills on Wednesday where he can make as much as $2.7 million, WGR550.com reports. Said the veteran running back, "I had a tremendous offseason with our strength and conditioning coaches and I'm hungry and motivated. I think a renewed sense of getting this thing turned around with some of the moves we made in the off season putting some pieces around us, I think that's got to have a lot of guys excited and I'm one of them."
You won't find many 33-year-old running backs getting a contract extension, but Jackson has done a fantastic job keeping in shape and providing value to the Bills in multiple ways, including leadership. The extension keeps him signed through the 2015 season, though Jackson said Tuesday they'd he'd like to play for a few more years.
Wed Jul 30 201416:12Fred Jackson signs one-year extension
Bills signed RB Fred Jackson to one-year, $2.6 million extension.
The extension comes as somewhat of a surprise. Already the oldest running back in the NFL at 33, Jackson is now under contract through 2015. The arrival of Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon may prevent Jackson from getting the 252 touches he saw last season, but this contract suggests he will remain a big part of a run-first offense. He is worth a flier in the ninth round.

Fri Jul 11 201416:19Fred Jackson could lose snaps to Brown/Dixon
WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia suggests Fred Jackson could lose snaps this season to Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon.
We see Dixon more as a special teamer, but the Bills gave up significant compensation for Brown (a conditional fourth-round pick that could improve to a third-rounder), and will probably want to carve out a role for him. While Jackson should remain heavily involved due to his pass-protection prowess, his touches are a virtual lock to sink. Jackson will be 33 1/2 years old in Week 1.

Sat May 31 201411:21Jackson and Spiller on the field together
The Bills used several formations during OTAs that had C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson on the field at the same time.
Despite Jackson and Spiller being arguably Buffalo's two best offensive weapons, the Bills have been oddly resistant to playing both players at the same time. Thankfully those reservations seem to be dissipating. Jackson's role may be slightly reduced in 2014, but he is still a good bet for eight-plus touchdowns and a solid flex option. Spiller is a boom-or-bust RB2.

Tue May 27 201412:41Fred Jackson to have role reduced some in '14
WGR 550 Buffalo expects Fred Jackson's role to be reduced a bit in 2014.
Jackson played 663 offensive snaps a year ago. With C.J. Spiller back to 100 percent and the addition of Bryce Brown to the backfield, it's only natural for 33-year-old Jackson to see his workload scaled back. He'll still have an important role that will likely include red-zone work in a run-heavy offense. But a year after finishing as a standard scoring top-ten fantasy back, we expect a major drop-off. Jackson is more RB2/flex than RB1.

Tue Jan 14 201411:32Jackson thinks he can play 3-4 more years
Fred Jackson thinks he can play 3-4 more years.
Jackson has already beaten long odds by remaining highly productive into his age-32 season. Now he's getting greedy, looking to hang around the league until he's 35 or 36. "I confidently believe I can do that," he said. "Especially with the workload being split between C.J. and I. That definitely gives me the opportunity to be out here three or four more years." Realistically, the Bills figure to try to squeeze more out of a healthy Spiller next season, the final year of Jackson's contract.

Fri Jan 3 201414:51Jackson significantly out-snaps Spiller
Fred Jackson wound up playing 663 snaps to C.J. Spiller's 389 in 2013.
Spiller's Week 4 high ankle sprain had some effect, but ultimately F-Jax played so many more downs because the Bills trusted him in pass protection. He was Buffalo's go-to third-down back. Under Doug Marrone and Nathaniel Hackett -- who publicly promised before the season to "run C.J. until he pukes" -- Spiller actually ended up playing fewer snaps than he did the year before under Chan Gailey (579). Jackson turns 33 in February. Spiller is 26, so look for the pendulum to swing back C.J.'s way sooner rather than later.

Sun Dec 29 201320:58Fred Jackson totals 113 yards from scrimmage
Fred Jackson rushed 14 times for 60 yards and a touchdown in Buffalo's Week 17 loss to the Patriots, adding three catches for 53 yards.
Ageless F-Jax finishes his latest solid season with 896 yards rushing, 388 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry, and appeared in all 16 games after combining to miss 12 in 2011-12. Jackson is two months shy of his 33rd birthday, but signed for an affordable $2.45 million, there's almost no way he won't be back for 2014.

Fred Jackson (ribs) did not practice Tuesday.
Jackson played through a rib injury in Sunday's win over the Dolphins, so the Bills are just getting him some rest. He's in no danger of missing Week 17 against the Patriots.

Sun Dec 22 201318:24Fred Jackson played through broken ribs
Fred Jackson played through broken ribs in Sunday's win over the Dolphins.
Jackson looked to be fine, rushing 19 times for 111 yards with a touchdown. "You want to be a leader on this team? One of the best ways to show that you're with this team is to play hurt. And that's what I wanted to do -- let those guys know that I would be with them," he said. It's yet another reminder that players can often play through broken ribs as long as the pain isn't too overwhelming.

Sun Dec 22 201316:21Fred Jackson paces Bills with 111 yards, TD
Fred Jackson rushed 19 times for 111 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's 19-0 Week 16 win over the Dolphins.
The Bills absolutely dominated the Dolphins from the jump, leading to tons of volume for both Jackson (21 touches) and C.J. Spiller (23 touches). Of course, F-Jax got the majority of red-zone looks and was more powerful between the tackles, leading to his smooth 9-yard score in the second quarter. It was his first 100-yard rushing game of the season, but Jackson has been remarkably effective in his age-32 season. Heading into the finale, he has 836 rushing yards, 334 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Sun Dec 22 201311:55Fred Jackson active, as expected
Fred Jackson (ribs) is active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, as expected.
Jackson's status was never in doubt. He's a strong bet to both out-snap and out-carry C.J. Spiller once again, likely getting somewhere around 10-15 touches. Stevie Johnson (personal) and E.J. Manuel (knee) are both inactive, as previously announces. The rest of the Bills inactives: S Aaron Williams, RB Ronnie Wingo, CB Brandon Smith, OL Mark Asper and OL Antoine McClain.

Thu Dec 19 201308:03Fred Jackson expected to play Week 16
Coach Doug Marrone confirmed Fred Jackson is expected to play against the Dolphins Sunday.
Jackson took Wednesday off as a mere rest day. He'll be ready for his normal workload in Week 16, which means 10-15 carries, 2-4 catches and red-zone work.

Wed Dec 18 201311:49Fred Jackson not practicing on Wednesday
Fred Jackson (undisclosed) is not practicing Wednesday.
Jackson appeared to get through the Week 15 win at Jacksonville without issue, so this could very well be a veteran's day off. He continues to out-snap C.J. Spiller on a weekly basis and we wouldn't expect that to change against the Dolphins in Week 16.
