Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said he never considered getting Bortles into Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Redskins, the Jaguars' official site reports.
The Jacksonville offense was horrible in the 31-point loss, rushing just 10 times for 25 yards, totaling a mere 148 yards of total offense while allowing quarterback Chad Henne to get sacked 10 times. Bradley said there was a lot of things to correct and did not indicate whether Bortles will be part of the fix next week against the Colts.

Bortles took some reps with the first-team offense Thursday, the Jaguars' official site reports. It was the second straight practice in which Bortles worked with the first team.
Despite a stellar preseason, the rookie enters the regular season as the back up to Chad Henne. The work with the first team, though, is an encouraging sign that Bortles could become the starter at some point this season.

Bortles completed 4-of-6 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against the Falcons.
Making the start with Chad Henne resting up for Week 1, Bortles found his footing on the Jags' third drive, hooking up with fellow rookie Marqise Lee for a 57-yard touchdown. Though Henne is locked in as the Week 1 starter, Bortles boosted his own stock by having an impressive preseason, which could cause Jaguars brass to have a shorter leash with the veteran. Bortles finishes the preseason 32-of-50 for 511 yards, with a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. He had some excellent moments but wasn't nearly as dominant as the statistics suggest, as there were some dropped interceptions and a few other ugly throws. Still, it was a better showing than expected, given that the Jags previously said they planned to sit Bortles for most of his rookie season. Should Henne struggle, which is rather likely, it will be hard to justify that plan.

Bortles will start Thursday's preseason finale against the Falcons.
Bortles' name is among those listed in Thursday's starting lineup changes for the Jaguars' preseason finale, which reflects the fact that Chad Henne remains atop the team's posted QB depth chart and is thus presumably in line to start the team's regular season opener.
Fri Aug 22 201422:33Blake Bortles: Outplaying Chad Henne
Bortles completed 10-of-16 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game against the Lions.
Bortles wasn't as good as the stats indicate, as he benefited from a few dropped interceptions. Still, he's outplayed Chad Henne this preseason, and Henne doesn't have even a modicum of upside. The Jaguars may be rethinking their previously announced intention to have Bortles sit for most of his first season.

Coach Gus Bradley indicated that Bortles is in line to see some first-team reps at practice next, as well as in next Friday's preseason game against the Lions, the Florida Times-Union reports.
The report suggests that Bortles could play a quarter with the Jags' starters next week, though both the Times-Union and ESPN.com suggest that the Jags have not wavered with regard to their stance that Chad Henne will start at quarterback for the team in Week 1.

Bortles completed 11-of-17 passes for 160 yards in Thursday's preseason game against the Bears.
After Bortles outplayed Chad Henne in the first game, both quarterbacks found success against the defensively-challenged Bears. While he's still a long shot to overtake Henne within the first few weeks of the season, Bortles is already starting to build his case for whenever the Jags start to tire of the veteran. The team reportedly wants to keep Bortles on the bench for most of his rookie season, but there's no real reason to expect significant improvement for Henne.

Bortles completed 7-of-11 passes for 117 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Bucs.
Bortles outplayed Chad Henne, which wasn't all that hard to do in a game that saw both first-team offenses struggle mightily. The Jags apparently plan on starting Henne for most, if not all, of the season. That tune could perhaps change down the road, should the Jaguars look as bad on offense as they did last season.

Bortles will work exclusively with the second team offense during Friday's preseason opener versus the Buccaneers, the Florida Times-Union reports.
While Bortles likely won't work much with any starters, he's in position to see plenty of reps as the backup quarterback. Chad Henne will "probably" play the first quarter, per coach Gus Bradley, and Bortles will likely play all of the second quarter and could start the third. "We'd like to get him some extended reps," Bradley said. Iowa product Ricky Stanzi will serve as Jacksonville's third quarterback Friday.
Thu Jul 24 201421:18Jags want to fix Bortles' mechanics
The Jaguars are hoping to fix No. 3 overall pick Blake Bortles' lower-body mechanics during his redshirt rookie year.
Per NFL Network's Albert Breer, the Jags believe Bortles was too much of an "arm thrower" at UCF, which aligns with the draftnik community's belief that his arm strength was not particularly impressive. He'll generate better torque if Jaguars coaches can get Bortles to improve his lower-body technique. Stopgap Chad Henne will open the season on a comfortably long leash.

Thu Jun 26 201413:10Jags will give Bortles 1st-team reps in camp
Coach Gus Bradley says Blake Bortles will be sprinkled in with the first-team offense during training camp, even though the Jaguars plan to sit Bortles for his entire rookie year.
Bradley wants to give Bortles a "feel for that type of environment," but promises the Jaguars "feel so strongly about" Chad Henne, and "the team has really rallied around that." We still tentatively expect Bortles to make late-season starts, but Henne is likely to open the season on a relatively long leash.

Wed Jun 18 201408:34Jaguars, Blake Bortles agree to rookie deal
Jaguars signed first-round QB Blake Bortles to a four-year, $20.6 million contract.
As with all first-round picks, the first four years are fully guaranteed and the deal includes a team option for Year 5. Bortles has been working as the No. 2 quarterback throughout OTAs and minicamp, and Chad Henne is fully expected to start Week 1. When Bortles makes his NFL debut will depend on both his progress and how the Jags open the season. Although Bortles was the first quarterback off the board at No. 3 overall, he's behind Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater in Vegas' odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
