Wed Mar 12 201422:33Jets may sign both James Jones & Eric Decker
TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports the Jets will continue to pursue free agent James Jones even if they land Eric Decker.
The Jets are putting the full-court press on Decker as we speak. So at least they are aware they need two new starting wideouts, and plan to do something about it. Jones and Decker have both been touchdown-scoring receivers throughout their careers, though they've been playing with Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning, respectively. Their fantasy values would suffer in New York.

Tue Mar 11 201414:58Lions drop out of running for James Jones
TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports the Lions have fallen out of the running for free agent WR James Jones.
It's possible they've decided to commit more money elsewhere, perhaps to SS T.J. Ward. Pauline reports the Jets, Giants, Dolphins, "and a fourth (undisclosed) team" are in the hunt for Jones. Jones is a quality No. 2 NFL receiver.

Mon Mar 10 201422:16Lions, Jets very interested in FA James Jones
TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline reports free agent James Jones is drawing "heavy interest" from the Lions and Jets.
Pauline adds that the Packers "may still be in the mix" for Jones, though it seems like a longshot. Jones hasn't been linked to many teams since the season ended but recently mentioned the Colts and Chargers as teams he'd be interested in. Playing alongside Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford wouldn't be a bad gig. The Jets would likely have to blow Jones away financially to land him.

Wed Mar 5 201410:15James Jones suggests IND, SD as landing spots
Free agent James Jones suggested the Colts and Chargers as possible landing spots.
The Packers have made it clear that they're going to move forward with Jarrett Boykin as their No. 3 wideout, allowing Jones to walk. The Colts certainly have a need with 35-year-old Reggie Wayne coming off a torn ACL and only unproven LaVon Brazill/Da'Rick Rogers behind T.Y. Hilton. The Chargers are equally thin behind Keenan Allen. Jones would have a chance to step in as the No. 2 wideout in plus passing schemes in both locales.

Tue Mar 4 201419:59James Jones prefers to stay in Green Bay
Free agent James Jones said, "In a perfect world I would love to go back (to Green Bay)," but admits there is a chance he will not get that opportunity.
It is more than a chance. The Packers have shown no desire to re-sign Jones, and he is very likely to hit the free agent market. Unfortunately for Jones, that market is likely to be fairly cold due to his age -- 30 this month -- and a loaded draft and free-agent pool. Jones is our No. 7 free agent wide receiver.

Sun Feb 23 201409:07Packers to let free agent James Jones walk
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers plan to let James Jones walk in free agency.
"I don't think [GM] Ted Thompson wants him," Jones' agent said. The Packers are set at receiver with Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Jarrett Boykin. They also need to get Nelson and Cobb extended within the next calendar year or so. Jones could face a semi-cold market due to age (30 in March) and a loaded draft and free-agent pool at the receiver position.

Fri Feb 7 201412:19James Jones a target for the Giants?
ESPN New York thinks James Jones "makes the most sense" for the Giants among the free agent wide receivers.
It seems every Packers offensive free agent is being connected to the Giants. New Giants OC Ben McAdoo was the Packers QBs coach this past season. The Giants are looking to replace Hakeem Nicks, who isn't expected back, but we really don't see GM Jerry Reese committing much money to the position. Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, and Jerrell Jernigan should make up a fine three-wide group. Signing a veteran on a cheap one-year deal could make more sense.

Tue Jan 7 201414:24James Jones played with two broken ribs
James Jones revealed on Tuesday that he played through two broken ribs the last two weeks.
Jones says he broke his ribs in the Week 16 game against the Steelers and was spitting up blood the following day. He continued to practice and play through it, which is why he wasn't on the injury report. "Its part of the game," Jones said. "You've got to go out there." Impending free agent Jones once again reiterated his desire to re-sign with the Packers.

Tue Jan 7 201411:57James Jones wants to re-sign with Packers
Impending free agent James Jones wants to re-sign with the Packers.
"I'm not one of those guys who goes home and says I'm worth 30, 40 million," Jones said. "We'll see what happens when the market comes." The Packers aren't going to pay soon-to-be 30-year-old Jones top dollar or probably even what Jones could get on the open market. GM Ted Thompson isn't fond of paying veterans much guaranteed money, and he could choose to give Jones' snaps to Jarrett Boykin in 2014. Randall Cobb will handle slot receiver duties.

Sun Jan 5 201420:08James Jones held to 20 yards in defeat
James Jones was held to two receptions for 20 yards in Green Bay's Wild Card loss to the 49ers.
Jones had a number of chances to make plays at the intermediate and deep sections, but the Niners' defensive backs deserve credit for tight coverage on Green Bay's most physical receiver. Turning 30 in March, Jones will enter 2014 free agency coming off a 59-817-3 line during the regular season. We suspect he will depart, and be replaced by Jarrett Boykin in Green Bay.

Sun Dec 29 201321:08James Jones catches six passes in finale
James Jones caught six passes for 41 yards in Green Bay's Week 17 win over the Bears.
Jones' seven targets were a distant second to Jordy Nelson's 16 in Aaron Rodgers' return. Jones' roller-coaster 2013 ends with 59 catches for 817 yards and three scores. He simply wasn't much of a factor during Rodgers' seven-game absence, but will be a candidate to pop big plays in the playoffs. Going on 30, Jones is headed to free agency in the offseason.

Sun Dec 15 201321:22James Jones scores touchdown in victory
James Jones caught three passes for 49 yards and a touchdown in Green Bay's Week 15 win over the Cowboys.
39 of Jones' yards came on a first-quarter slant, where he whipped Cowboys slot CB Orlando Scandrick off the line of scrimmage. Jones appeared to tweak a muscle on the play, and caught just two passes for 10 yards thereafter. He never came out of the game, drawing seven targets. With Aaron Rodgers returning for Week 16 looking like a real possibility, Jones is shaping up as a high-reward WR3 for the fantasy finals.

Sun Dec 8 201316:15James Jones held to 4 catches, 19 yards
James Jones caught four passes for 19 yards in the Packers' Week 14 win over Atlanta.
Jones served as the Packers' No. 2 receiver in terms of snaps played, but is essentially fighting for weekly targets with Andrew Quarless, Jarrett Boykin, and Eddie Lacy behind Jordy Nelson. Aaron Rodgers' (collarbone) possible Week 15 return against Dallas could still spike Jones' value into high-end WR3 territory. He's struggled for stats with Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien.

Thu Nov 28 201316:18James Jones catches three passes for 79 yards
James Jones caught three passes for 79 yards in Green Bay's Week 13 loss to the Lions.
It would have been a completely lost afternoon for Jones had he not caught a contested 56-yard bomb in garbage time. Fill-in QB Matt Flynn finished with just 139 yards on 20 attempts, taking seven sacks in the process. His receivers never had a chance at a big day. With Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) looking likely to return for Week 14, however, Jones will finally be back on the radar as a high-end WR3.

Sun Nov 24 201318:05James Jones reels in seven passes in tie
James Jones caught seven passes for 80 yards in Green Bay's Week 12 tie with Minnesota.
Jones saw a game-high 12 targets. His long gain of 28 yards came on a fourth-and-six free play where the Vikings jumped offsides. Matt Flynn heaved a pass in the air, and Jones came down with it in the middle of the field. Earlier in the day, Jones couldn't hang onto a first-and-goal back-shoulder pass from Scott Tolzien in the corner of the end zone. He hasn't scored since Week 5 against the Lions. Jones will be a WR3 when the Packers take on Detroit on Thursday.

James Jones admitted he's been playing through pain since returning from his PCL sprain.

Sun Nov 17 201321:22James Jones catches two passes in loss
James Jones caught two passes for 55 yards in Week 11 versus the Giants.
Jones was targeted six times on the day. He beat Prince Amukamara for a big 45-yard gain on a post route, but that was the highlight of Jones' day. With Scott Tolzien making his first career start at quarterback, Jordy Nelson and Jarrett Boykin did the most damage. Tolzien simply can't support three receivers. Jones will be on the WR3 radar next week against the Vikings.

Sun Nov 10 201318:17James Jones gets four catches in loss
James Jones caught four passes for 44 yards in Sunday's Week 10 loss to the Eagles.
Jones' knee appeared 100 percent and his snap count was way up, but he got outplayed by Jarrett Boykin (8/112/0 on 13 targets). The Packers offense is going to struggle to support three wideouts with Scott Tolzien under center, as he will be in Week 11 against the Giants. Jones is a desperation WR3 for now, but a fine bench hold as we wait for Aaron Rodgers' collarbone to heal.

Tue Nov 5 201310:27James Jones played just 28 snaps
James Jones (knee) played on just 28 snaps in Monday night's loss to the Bears.
Jordy Nelson (55 snaps) and Jarrett Boykin (49) were the primary receivers in two-wide sets. When the Packers went three-wide, Nelson moved into the slot. The good news for Jones' owners is that he emerged from the game healthy and will pass up Boykin once he's 100 percent. The bad news is that Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) is tentatively expected to miss three weeks. Ideally, owners will stash Jones and then unleash him when Rodgers gets back for the fantasy playoffs.
