Tue May 21 201323:52Report: Broncos offered Woodson max $3.7M
The Denver Post reports the Broncos made Charles Woodson a one-year offer worth a maximum of $3.7 million through "reachable incentives."
Woodson's Raiders deal is worth a max of $4.3 million, though it's unknown how "reachable" the incentives are. He'll make a base salary of $1.8 million, and brought home a $700,000 signing bonus. Unless the Broncos' base offer was dramatically lower, it's definitely surprising Woodson chose the cellar-dwelling Raiders over Denver based on a theoretical extra $600,000. Money talks.

Tue May 21 201321:50Raiders reunite with Woodson on one-year deal
Raiders agreed to terms with DB Charles Woodson, formerly of the Packers, on a one-year deal.
The deal includes a $700,000 signing bonus, and is worth a maximum of $4.3 million. Woodson is returning to the team that made him the No. 4 pick of the 1998 draft. Woodson spent the first eight years of his career in Oakland before defecting to Green Bay, earning 1999 All-Pro honors. He's chosen Oakland over the Broncos despite the fact that Denver is on the cusp of the Super Bowl, while the Raiders are one of the worst teams in the league. However Woodson spins it, money was almost certainly the determining factor. Going on 37, Woodson has lost multiple steps the past few seasons, but will still likely be a better option than Usama Young opposite Tyvon Branch. Woodson won't be a 1,000-snap player this season, likely playing somewhere between 500-750.

Mon May 20 201316:49Charles Woodson 'intrigued' by Raiders
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent Charles Woodson is "intrigued" by the idea of finishing his career in Oakland.
Schefter previously reported on NFL Live that the Broncos had made a "fair offer" in contract talks, but it's possible Woodson would prefer to return to Oakland. We still anticipate Woodson landing in Denver, where the team is much further along. The Raiders have the look of a four-win club at best.

Mon May 20 201315:39Broncos in 'wait & see' on free agent Woodson
Coach John Fox said Monday the Broncos are in "wait and see" mode regarding free agent Charles Woodson joining the team.
The sides were reportedly "closing in on completing a deal" last week, before talks "hit a snag." The Raiders have since showed interest, although Woodson is likely using Oakland as leverage. Denver is easily his best bet if he wants to finish his career on a contender. Woodson is entering his age-37 season.

Thu May 16 201308:36Broncos still in lead for Charles Woodson?
The Denver Post says the Broncos are "likely" still the leading candidate to sign free agent Charles Woodson.
Woodson left his Broncos visit without a contract, presumably so he can meet with the Raiders and Panthers. It looks like a leverage ploy. The Broncos can offer plenty of money (they're roughly $7M under the cap), a chance to start at strong safety and a legit shot at a Super Bowl. Woodson would help them defend the growing number of "move" tight ends in the AFC.

Wed May 15 201319:00Woodson leaves Broncos visit without a deal
Free agent Charles Woodson left his Broncos visit without a contract.
As reporter Mike Klis points out, that doesn't mean the sides aren't still talking, but for now Woodson remains on the open market. To date, his only known offer has come from the Raiders. Woodson desperately wants to play for a contender, but has said he's open to playing for any team.

Tue May 14 201315:58Woodson's rep: Raiders have made an offer
Free agent Charles Woodson's player rep says he's received interest from the Raiders and Panthers in addition the Broncos, and that the Raiders have made an offer.
After three months of silence, Woodson's market is finally heating up. Oakland and Carolina both have dire needs at safety, but we'd guess the Broncos remain Woodson's preference by a longshot despite his recent capitulation that he was willing to play for a rebuilding team. The Raiders or Panthers will likely have to outbid the Broncos by a meaningful margin if they're serious about securing Woodson's services. Woodson will be in Denver on Wednesday.

Tue May 14 201313:14Woodson heading to Denver on Wednesday
Updating an earlier item, free agent Charles Woodson will visit the Broncos on Wednesday.
Woodson has made it clear he's only looking for a job at this point, so money or his potential role shouldn't be a major stumbling block if the Broncos want to hammer out a contract. Denver is just Woodson's second visit since he was released by the Packers in February.

Tue May 14 201311:16Report: Broncos to meet with Charles Woodson
Sources tell CBS4 that free agent Charles Woodson will meet with the Broncos "soon."
If Woodson wants to be a contributor on a contender, Denver is an ideal spot. They're set at corner with Champ Bailey, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Chris Harris, but could use some depth and help at safety. Woodson is well into his decline phase at age 36, but would still provide good competition for Mike Adams and Rahim Moore.

Sat May 11 201320:31'No sign' Browns are interested in Woodson
ESPN Cleveland reports "there is no sign" that the Browns are interested in free agent Charles Woodson.
Woodson recently said that he's open to playing for non-contenders, but the Browns are set to go into the season with T.J. Ward and Tashaun Gipson as their starting safeties. Cleveland also drafted FS Jamoris Slaughter (Achilles) in the sixth-round and expect him to be ready for training camp.

Thu May 9 201321:22Charles Woodson just 'wants to play football'
Free agent Charles Woodson is now willing to join a team in rebuilding mode.
"When this process first started out, I needed to go to a contender," Woodson said Thursday on NFL Network. "I know I am towards the end of my career. At this point, I want to play football. So if it is a rebuilding stage, at this point if that is the circumstances I have to play under, then that is what I am going to do." Woodson is confused by the lack of interest in himself and the other 30-plus-year-old free agents. Some teams that could still use safety help are the Panthers, Browns, Cowboys, Broncos, Chiefs, Vikings, Jets, Chargers, and Rams.

Wed Apr 17 201313:3749ers 'still interested' in Charles Woodson
GM Trent Baalke says the 49ers are "still interested" in free agent Charles Woodson.
The 49ers remain Woodson's only visit, but there's been no indication a deal is close. The 49ers have a major hole opposite Donte Whitner, but are clearly only going to sign Woodson at their price. Woodson's play is on the decline, but he's still a much better option than Craig Dahl.

The 49ers are reportedly "keeping their options open" with Woodson, but they've already signed third-safety type Craig Dahl. Woodson's market could heat up once Ed Reed finally finds a home.
