Tue Mar 12 201320:19Charles Woodson visiting the 49ers Wednesday
Free agent S Charles Woodson will visit the 49ers on Wednesday.
It will be Woodson's first known visit since getting released last month. He'd be an experienced replacement for Dashon Goldson, but a major downgrade at this point in his career.

Thu Mar 7 201312:16Dolphins have 'moderate' interest in Woodson
A team source tells the Miami Herald that the Dolphins have "moderate" interest in free agent S Charles Woodson.
The Dolphins have a need for a playmaker in the secondary with top corner Sean Smith and No. 1 free safety Chris Clemons both unrestricted free agents. However, Woodson likely wants to play for a contender and Miami is making a concerted effort to get younger. This doesn't look like a realistic fit for the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer.

Sat Feb 16 201317:35Clayton: Ravens, Patriots suitors for Woodson
ESPN's John Clayton mentioned the Ravens and Patriots as teams that would make sense for free agent S Charles Woodson.
Woodson is going on 37 years old and only has a couple of years left in the tank, so he's fully expected to try and find a starting gig with a Super Bowl contender. Baltimore and New England would qualify, as would Denver, whom Clayton's colleague, Ed Werder, mentioned on Friday afternoon. The Ravens would make sense if Ed Reed leaves via free agency. Woodson can sign with a team immediately.

Fri Feb 15 201316:10Charles Woodson to Denver or New England?
ESPN's Ed Werder suggested on NFL Live Friday that S Charles Woodson will target the Broncos and Patriots as suitors in free agency.
"I would look for Woodson," said Werder, "... to look at a team like Denver or New England." Released by Green Bay on Friday, Woodson is eligible to sign with a team immediately. At 36 years old, Woodson figures to target a Super Bowl contender entering quite possibly the final season of his NFL career.

Fri Feb 15 201311:31Green Bay parts ways with Charles Woodson
Packers released S Charles Woodson.
Woodson broke the news via his wine company's Twitter account, and it was soon confirmed by his agent. "It's part of the business," Woodson's rep told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Woodson was due an untenable $9 million between salary and bonuses. The sides could consider re-upping on a cheaper deal, but Rapoport hints it's not being discussed at this time. Woodson was not playing at a high level before a broken collarbone cost him the final nine games of the regular season.

Wed Feb 6 201301:40Charles Woodson has yet to hear from Pack
The agent for S Charles Woodson has yet to hear from the Packers regarding his client's future in Green Bay.
Agent Carl Poston is "optimistic" Woodson will be retained for 2013, but it's no sure thing. Woodson is going on age 37 and owed $10 million in salary and bonuses. Theoretically, GM Ted Thompson doesn't have to decide Woodson's fate until late in the offseason. The Packers owe Woodson no significant sum until his $2.5 million roster bonus comes due on the first day of training camp.

Mon Jan 14 201312:32Woodson's Packers career likely over
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reiterated that the Packers "probably will part ways" with Charles Woodson this offseason.
Woodson's contract calls for $10 million in salary bonuses in his age-37 season. Much like LB A.J. Hawk ($5.45 million), Woodson's production no longer matches his contract. Both veterans are likely to be jettisoned as the Packers look to overhaul with more speed and size on defense.

Tue Jan 1 201317:57Charles Woodson finally returns to practice
Charles Woodson (collarbone) finally gained clearance for practice on Tuesday.
Woodson was doing real defensive work on Tuesday rather being limited to the scout team. Sidelined since mid-October, Woodson will likely be ticketed for specific packages if he's active for Saturday's game versus the Vikings.

Sat Dec 22 201210:37Charles Woodson ruled out for Week 16
Charles Woodson (collarbone) has been ruled out for Week 16, but has steadfastly maintained that he will return to the field this season.
"I don't feel like I have to play in (the regular-season finale), but it'd be great to just get out there and play football. Next week will kind of take care of itself and we'll see if I can get out there and run around a little bit," said Woodson. The 36-year-old Woodson also said that he fully expects to play next season. He has two years remaining on the five-year, $55 million extension he signed in September 2010.

Thu Dec 20 201222:03Woodson not expected to return for Week 16
Charles Woodson (collarbone) is not expected to be activated in time for Week 16 versus the Titans.
"[Woodson]'s going to be pressed to make it back this week," said head coach Mike McCarthy. Woodson broke his collarbone in Week 7 and hasn't played since. He did put in a limited practice on Thursday, but M.D. Jennings is fully expected to start at free safety.

Wed Dec 12 201217:46Charles Woodson ruled out for Week 15
Charles Woodson (collarbone) will not return to practice this week and has been ruled out for Sunday.
There was hope that Woodson would be back for the Packers' Week 15 divisional showdown with the Bears, but team doctors have deemed it in his best interest for him to continue rehabbing his injured collarbone. Owners in IDP leagues who were hoping to get Woodson back for the fantasy playoffs will have to look for other options.

Tue Dec 4 201209:07Charles Woodson targeting Dec. 16 for return?
Coach Mike McCarthy hinted that FS Charles Woodson (collarbone) could return for Week 15.
Woodson has not been medically cleared off his fracture collarbone yet, but that could come this week. Then he'll spend some time getting his football legs back and integrating into the secondary. Before going down, Woodson was a free safety in the Packers' base defense and a slot corner in the nickel defense.

Tue Oct 23 201220:37'12 Likely Woodson's last year in Green Bay?
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Silverstein believes "this is probably (Packers FS Charles) Woodson's last year with the team."
Silverstein rightfully reasons that Woodson's scheduled 2013 salary of $9 million will be too odious for the Packers to pay a 36-year-old corner coming off a broken collarbone. Woodson's play has slipped, but not to the point that he shouldn't be counted on to contribute in 2013. If he's cut loose by Green Bay, he'll draw interest on the open market.

Mon Oct 22 201214:51Charles Woodson breaks collarbone, out 6 wks
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports Packers FS Charles Woodson will miss six weeks with a fractured collarbone.
Although Woodson's on-field performance has declined in his age-36 season, the Packers figure to keep him on their weekly inactives list rather than place the future Hall of Famer on year-ending injured reserve. Despite the fall-off in play from recent years, Woodson has graded out positively as a pass defender and particularly as a run defender according to Pro Football Focus. Transitioning to free safety from cornerback, Woodson has 38 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception through seven starts. In a best case scenario from the six-week timetable, Woodson would return in Week 14.

Tue Jun 12 201216:34Charles Woodson's role to change 6-8%
Coach Mike McCarthy estimated that Charles Woodson's role will change "somewhere between 6-8 percent than what he's played in the past."
"We're not recreating the wheel," said McCarthy. "I would define him as a playmaker in our defense. So it's our responsibility to make sure he's in a position to make plays." Woodson revealed that he's already played plenty of safety in his Packers career, and the coaching staff has no intention of limiting him to one position in 2012. His top priority will continue to be forcing turnovers.

Wed May 9 201210:52Charles Woodson willing to play safety
Charles Woodson reiterated that he is willing to move to safety in 2012.
He'd likely play strong safety, with Morgan Burnett at free. "With Nick Collins leaving, [and if] they need me to play safety, I'm not opposed to that," said Woodson. "But I think that we have to make sure that cornerback position is going to be solidified." If second-round CB Casey Hayward looks ready to start in training camp, Woodson may end up switching positions.

Tue May 1 201211:32Charles Woodson could move to safety
Packers DC Dom Capers didn't rule out the possibility of Charles Woodson moving to safety in 2012.
"It's not like it would be a radical move," said Capers. "We feel he could play any one of those positions and that's one of the things he brings to the table -- flexibility." Woodson would likely play strong safety, though the decision depends largely on Casey Hayward and Sam Shields' training camp play.

Mon Feb 27 201221:43Packers to keep Woodson at cornerback
The Packers plan to keep Charles Woodson at cornerback in 2012.
"The closer Charles is to the ball the more dangerous he is and more impact he has to the offense," said coach Mike McCarthy said at the NFL combine. "He's the most instinctive defensive player I've ever been around." Woodson played 70-75 percent of his 2011 snaps at slot corner, and that number may increase in 2012. The Packers will have to look elsewhere for a free safety.
