Thu Oct 3 201312:22Colts claim Donald Brown will have big role
OC Pep Hamilton said Donald Brown has been "spectacular" and will continue to play a "major role" in the offense.
Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) didn't play in last week's blowout of the Jaguars. Brown still only got five touches on 13 snaps. So even though he's playing well and Bradshaw could be done for the season, there's no standalone value here. Consider Brown a weak handcuff to feature back Trent Richardson.

Sun Sep 29 201318:30Donald Brown totals 76 yards in Week 4
Colts RB Donald Brown rushed three times for 65 yards and caught two passes for 11 yards in Indy's Week 4 win at Jacksonville.
He broke off a 50-yard run to set up Trent Richardson's goal-line plunge. Brown is serving as a change-of-pace back until Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) returns. The Colts host the Seahawks in Week 5.

Sat Aug 24 201323:44Donald Brown continues productive August
Donald Brown rushed five times for 35 yards in the Colts' third preseason game Saturday night.
He also dropped a screen pass. Brown has quietly outplayed Vick Ballard in August, rushing 14 times for 66 yards (4.71 YPC), to go with four catches for 39 yards. With Ahmad Bradshaw (feet) due back soon, Brown looks to have wrapped up Indy's No. 3 tailback job and could begin pushing Ballard to be No. 2.

Fri Jun 7 201312:00Brown or Carter could be cut in Indianpolis
The Indianapolis Star expects either Donald Brown or Delone Carter to be released if the Colts sign free agent Ahmad Bradshaw.
Not necessarily right away, but before Week 1. Both players have been major disappointments in Indianapolis, but Brown more so as a former first-round pick. The owner of a career 4.1 yards per carry through 449 totes, Brown is going into the final year of his rookie contract.

Tue Dec 11 201216:34Colts end RB Donald Brown's (ankle) season
Colts placed RB Donald Brown (ankle) and FB Robert Hughes on season-ending injured reserve.
We suspected a high-ankle sprain after Brown was ruled out so quickly last week. The transaction is welcome news for the workload of Vick Ballard, who faces Houston's stout run defense in two of the next three weeks. The oft-injured Brown has missed multiple games in three of his four seasons with the Colts. While he's likely to be back with the team at a reasonable $1.705 million salary next season, Brown has fallen behind Ballard in the eyes of the organization. His Dynasty value is in the tank.

Sun Dec 9 201211:44Colts declare Week 14 inactives
Colts declared RB Donald Brown, SS Tom Zbikowski, WR Nathan Palmer, LB Mario Harvey, DT Kellen Heard, OT Bradley Sowell, and OL Joe Reitz inactive for Week 14 versus the Titans.
Vick Ballard will get the start at running back and he'll be a decent flex play against the Titans' leaky defense. Joe Lefeged will start in Zbokowski's place. Seth Olsen, who was just activated, will start at left guard.

Wed Dec 5 201212:12Donald Brown already ruled out of Week 14
Donald Brown (ankle) will not play in Sunday's game against the Titans.
The ankle injury Brown sustained late in last week's wild win over the Lions has proven to be serious. The fact that he's been ruled out so early in the week suggests a multi-week absence. It's major news for Vick Ballard, who now projects as an every-down and every-series back once again. Brown had been getting 9.0 touches per game over the last six weeks. Ballard is at least on the flex radar against the Titans' 27th-ranked defense.

Fri Nov 30 201216:22Donald Brown will play against the Lions
Donald Brown (probable, knee) turned in a full week of practice and will play Sunday against the Lions.
Brown is back to approaching an even timeshare with Vick Ballard. Ballard will start against Detroit, but probably won't exceed 12-15 touches. Brown is a candidate for 10-14 as the slightly lesser used half of the committee.

Thu Nov 29 201214:49Donald Brown practices in full again Thursday
Donald Brown (knee) was a full participant again in Thursday's practice.
It's a sign of tangible progress, as Brown had been taking Thursday's off for rest and maintenance the past few weeks. Expect a fairly even timeshare between Brown and Vick Ballard Sunday, with Delone Carter continuing to steal goal-line carries.

Wed Nov 28 201217:06Donald Brown practices in full Wednesday
Donald Brown (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
He'll likely be downgraded to "DNP" on Thursday, but that's just Brown's new routine. He'll be in for another timeshare with Vick Ballard against the Lions. Ballard is the stronger flex play.

Fri Nov 23 201214:43Donald Brown listed as probable
Donald Brown (probable, knee) returned to a full practice Friday.
Brown will be active against the Bills, but he's lost his job to Vick Ballard and is now just a change-of-pace back. He can be dropped in fantasy leagues.

Wed Nov 21 201218:35Donald Brown practices in full Wednesday
Donald Brown (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Brown was a full participant last Wednesday before being downgraded to "DNP" on Thursday, but ultimately played against the Patriots. However, he touched the ball just six times as Vick Ballard combined for 17 rushes and catches. Brown isn't a compelling flex option for Week 12.

Sun Nov 18 201215:01Donald Brown ready to roll versus Patriots
Donald Brown (knee) is active for Week 11 against the Patriots.
Brown is ready to rotate carries with Vick Ballard. He should be in for 13-15 touches, but with Ballard more likely to earn goal-line looks, Brown isn't a terribly compelling flex option against the Patriots' stout run defense. Inactive for the Colts are CB Vontae Davis, TE Coby Fleener, LB Mario Harvey, OT Brad Sowell, DT Josh Chapman, DT Martin Tevaseu and OT Tony Hills.

Fri Nov 16 201215:00Donald Brown listed as probable
Donald Brown (knee) is listed as probable for Week 11 after returning to practice on Friday.
Brown will work in a rotation with Vick Ballard against the Patriots. New England has defended the run well for the most part, and neither Colts back may top 12-14 touches in what has the look of a potentially pass-heavy affair. Ballard is a low-end flex option. We wouldn't count on Brown in fantasy at all.

Fri Nov 16 201211:45Donald Brown appears to be practicing
Donald Brown (knee) "appeared" to be practicing on Friday morning.
We suspected Thursday's absence was simply a maintenance day for Brown's knee. At this point, he appears to be on track to split the workload with Vick Ballard at New England.

Thu Nov 15 201216:15Donald Brown downgraded to out Thursday
Donald Brown (knee) was downgraded to out in Thursday's practice.
Brown was "full" on Wednesday. This would normally be cause for alarm, but it's the same pattern Brown followed two weeks ago. Brown didn't practice last week with the Colts on a short week, but split time evenly with Vick Ballard in Indy's Thursday evening win. Brown's status will certainly be worth double-checking on Friday, but for now there's no reason to believe he won't be ready to split the load with Ballard against the Patriots.

Wed Nov 14 201216:37Donald Brown practicing in full this week
Donald Brown (knee) is practicing in full this week.
It's confirmation Brown escaped last Thursday's win without further injury after playing 28 snaps. Brown rotated with Vick Ballard against the Jaguars, and we'd expect that to remain the case against the Patriots. Both will be middling flex plays against the league's No. 9 run defense.
