Tue Nov 13 201211:29Donald Brown still listed as day-to-day
Donald Brown (knee) remains listed as day to day.
Even though Brown played 28 snaps in last Thursday's win over the Jags, he's still not completely over the hump. We'll likely see a relatively even timeshare between Brown and Vick Ballard once again when the Colts travel to New England Week 11.

Fri Nov 9 201209:11Donald Brown plays 28-of-67 snaps in Week 10
Donald Brown played 28-of-67 snaps compared to Vick Ballard's 33 in Thursday's victory at Jacksonville.
Ballard started and the two backs rotated fairly equally throughout. Although Bruce Arians did not update Brown's (knee) status after the game, it seems that he escaped without a setback. Brown dominated the Colts' fourth-quarter field-goal drive, rushing six times on eight plays.

Thu Nov 8 201223:58Brown plays even timeshare role with Ballard
Donald Brown rushed for 42 yards on 14 carries in Week 11 against the Jaguars on Thursday night.
Brown was a true game-time decision for the contest, and there wasn't a great feel for what his role would be on offense. Vick Ballard got the start, but both he and Brown played in an even timeshare as they alternated every other series. Brown now has 10 days to rest up his ailing knee and should get the start against the Patriots next week. We should have a better feel for the workload assignments later next week, but New England sports the league's No. 8 run defense.

Thu Nov 8 201219:56Brown and Avery both starting against Jags
Donald Brown (knee) and Donnie Avery (hip) will both start Thursday night's game against the Jaguars.
With Brown drawing the start, it makes Vick Ballard a riskier fantasy play, but we still expect the rookie to lead the backfield in touches. Avery will start opposite Reggie Wayne, but T.Y. Hilton should still see plenty of action.

Thu Nov 8 201219:10Brown, Avery both active for TNF at Jaguars
Donald Brown (knee) and Donnie Avery (hip) are both active for Thursday night's game against the Jaguars.
It's uncertain how much each player will play or if either will even start the game. Vick Ballard will likely see much of the work out of the Indy backfield against a porous Jacksonville run defense and is a decent flex option. Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton are the best bets to lead the receiving corps in targets.

Thu Nov 8 201209:36Donald Brown will try to gut it out?
The Indy Star guesses that Donald Brown (knee) will try to play in Thursday night's game against the Jaguars.
It's a surprise projection. Brown's knee soreness flared up last Saturday and he barely played in Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Then he sat out of each practice leading up to tonight. We still consider Brown a true game-time call, with Vick Ballard likely drawing the start either way. The Colts will release their official inactives around 7 p.m. ET.

Wed Nov 7 201213:39Donald Brown (knee) officially questionable
Donald Brown (knee) is listed as questionable for Thursday Night Football after missing his third straight practice Wednesday.
Brown will be a game-time decision against the Jaguars, but the fact that he wasn't able to get in a single practice rep after his knee flared up over the weekend bodes poorly for his prospects of suiting up during the short week. That would leave Vick Ballard for feature duties against the Jags' porous run defense. Owners need to plan on being without Brown for Week 10.

Tue Nov 6 201216:46Donald Brown (knee) misses Tuesday's practice
Donald Brown (knee) was held out of Tuesday's practice.
Brown's knee has been sore since it flared up on Saturday. With a Thursday night game, his status is very much in doubt for Week 10. Vick Ballard is shaping up as a top-25 fantasy option against a Jaguars defense that has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing backs. Ballard is 19th in fantasy points per game over the past three weeks.

Mon Nov 5 201214:06Donald Brown dealing with knee, not hip issue
The Terre Haute Tribune-Star confirms Donald Brown came out of Sunday's game with knee, not hip, soreness, and that Brown believes he could have returned if needed.
ESPN's John Clayton reported Brown nicked his hip in Sunday's win, but it was "swelling and soreness" in his surgically-repaired knee that knocked him out. Brown is apparently day-to-day heading into Indy's Thursday night tilt with the Jaguars, though coach Bruce Arians offered no official update. Brown is likely to see few, if any, practice reps this week, and will probably end up a game-time decision against the Jags' leaky run defense.

Mon Nov 5 201208:16Clayton: Donald Brown injured hip in Week 9
According to ESPN's John Clayton, Colts RB Donald Brown injured his hip early in Sunday's game versus the Dolphins.
None of the local papers has anything on the hip injury. In fact, the Terre Haute Tribune-Star says Brown saw limited playing time after experiencing further swelling his surgically-repaired knee. We should get an update from interim coach Bruce Arians on Monday. As it is now, Brown's status appears to be up in the air for Thursday's game after he played just 4 percent of the snaps versus Vick Ballard's 68 percent on Sunday.

Sat Nov 3 201222:06Colts downgrade Brown (knee) to questionable
Donald Brown (knee) has been downgraded to questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Brown was previously listed as probable after returning to a full practice Friday, but team doctors reportedly found swelling in his knee Saturday. His Week 9 status is now in doubt. Brown will be re-evaluated Sunday as a gametime decision. Even if active, he would be used in a committee role with Vick Ballard.

Fri Nov 2 201216:18Donald Brown listed as probable for Week 9
Donald Brown (knee) practiced in full on Friday and is listed as probable for Week 9 against Miami.
Brown's missed Thursday practice turned out to be much ado about nothing. He will work in an rotation against the Dolphins, playing "equally" with Vick Ballard, per coach Bruce Arians' plans. He'd be a weak flex in fantasy leagues.

Fri Nov 2 201211:36Colts RB Brown (knee) expected to play Sunday
According to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, Donald Brown (knee) is still expected to play versus the Dolphins after sitting out Thursday's practice.
The normally comprehensive Indianapolis Star had no update on Brown's status, which gives us slight pause. It's quite possible that Brown was just getting his knee an extra day of rest in preparation for Sunday's timeshare with Vick Ballard. The Colts have been announcing their injury designations just prior to 1:00 p.m. ET on Fridays.

Thu Nov 1 201216:30Donald Brown misses Thursday's practice
Donald Brown (knee) was downgraded to out in Thursday's practice.
Brown was a full-go on Wednesday, and entirely absent from the Week 9 injury report. That would suggest he pulled up lame in Wednesday's practice, but it's quite possible the Colts are just managing his reps after he returned from a two-week absence on Sunday. Brown's Week 9 availability should no longer be taken for granted, but it wouldn't be wise to simply assume he's out. His status will be updated no later than Friday afternoon.

Wed Oct 31 201212:28Donald Brown, Ballard to share load equally
Interim coach Bruce Arians said he expects Donald Brown and Vick Ballard to play "equal amounts" in Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Arians did note that his players don't lose a starting job due to injury, meaning Brown will likely get the first crack. But Ballard has played well enough to secure a committee role, rushing 32 times for 139 yards (4.34 YPC) in the last two games and scoring the highlight-reel game-winning touchdown against the Titans. Expect roughly 10-14 touches for each back against a Miami defense giving up just 18.0 points per game this season.

Sun Oct 28 201217:48Donald Brown leads Colts with 80 yards
Returning from a knee scope, Donald Brown led the Colts with 80 yards on 14 carries at Tennessee in Week 8.
Vick Ballard started and rotated with Brown equally throughout the game. The Colts had success running behind center Samson Satele, and Brown had a couple of nice overtime runs to set up Ballard's game-winning 16-yard touchdown. If the Colts continue to follow the pattern that contributed to 171 rushing yards on Sunday, Brown and Ballard will continue to share the load with Delone Carter as the goal-line back.

Fri Oct 26 201213:34Donald Brown to be Week 8 game-day call
Donald Brown (questionable, knee) will be a game-time decision in Week 8 against the Titans.
Brown got in at least a limited practice each day this week, and appears on track to return after a two-game absence. His role is unclear, and it's a bit hard to imagine Brown reclaiming primary back duties just a couple of weeks from arthroscopic knee surgery. Keep him reserved on Week 8 fantasy benches.
