Thu Jan 30 2014 | 19:45 | Manning admits he throws ducks |
Responding to Richard Sherman's criticism of his arm strength, Peyton Manning admitted on Thursday he throws "ducks." |
"I do throw ducks," Manning said. "I throw a lot of yards and touchdowns-ducks, so I'm actually quite proud of it." This is hardly bulletin-board material, but Sherman should be careful lest he finds himself in the position of so many corners before him; watching one of Manning's ducks float over his head and into the waiting arms of a receiver in the end zone. |

Fri Jan 24 2014 | 11:31 | Super Bowl forecast: Snow plus temps in 20s |
The first forecast for Super Bowl Sunday has been released, and it's currently calling for a high of 35 degrees and a 30 percent chance of snow. |
According to Weather.com, snow showers are possible and temperatures will range from 25 to 35 degrees. The Broncos and Seahawks will kick off at 6:30 PM ET, so they'd likely be playing in temperatures in the 20s. Wind isn't expected to be a factor; it's projected to be blowing around 8 MPH. Of course, we're ten days away from the big game, which leaves plenty of time for change. The NFL has previously said that if a winter storm is expected, the game could be moved to Saturday, Monday, or Tuesday. Worst-case scenario would be for Super Bowl to be pushed back to February 9. We're not at that point. |

Sun Jan 19 2014 | 18:29 | MVP Manning SB48 bound after 400-yard day |
Peyton Manning completed 32-of-43 throws for 400 yards and two touchdowns as the Broncos advanced to Super Bowl 48 in Sunday's 26-16 AFC Championship win over the Patriots. |
Dissecting New England's defense on crossers and chain-moving routes, Manning converted his first scoring pass on a goal-line rollout, finding Jacob Tamme open from one yard out. When Aqib Talib (ribs) left the game, Peyton got aggressive at the intermediate and deep sections, exposing the Patriots' undermanned secondary with Demaryius Thomas en route to a 13-3 first-half lead. The dynamic duo increased the margin to 20-3 when Peyton found Demaryius slipping inside Alfonzo Dennard for a three-yard third-quarter touchdown. The Patriots didn't get a single hit or sack on Manning in a dominant performance by both Peyton and Denver's pass protection. The Broncos will meet the winner of Sunday night's 49ers-Seahawks game in Super Bowl XLVIII. |

Sun Jan 12 2014 | 21:34 | Peyton Manning to undergo March neck exam |
Peyton Manning's football future will be determined by the results of a March physical on his four-times surgically repaired neck. |
Assuming the exam shows Manning's neck is stable, he will resume his career. If increased risk of injury is shown, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Manning "will be forced to decide whether to retire." Manning has made it clear he wants to keep playing in 2014 regardless of whether the Broncos win the Super Bowl. Manning turns 38 on March 24. Asked in his post-game presser late Sunday if he was already thinking about the exam, Peyton replied "The only thing weighing on my mind is how soon I can get a Bud Light in my mouth." |

Sun Jan 12 2014 | 19:57 | Peyton & Brady will square off for AFC title |
Peyton Manning completed 25-of-36 passes for 230 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in Denver's 24-17 Divisional Round victory over San Diego. |
Manning got lucky on Denver's opening possession, as his poor throw was dropped by Chargers LCB Shareece Wright on a sure pick. Peyton took advantage, plays later hitting Demaryius Thomas for a two-yard score. Manning threw his second touchdown from three yards out to Wes Welker midway through the second quarter, capitalizing on Nick Novak's missed field goal. Manning's lone interception came on a pass that bounced off Eric Decker's chest in the end zone and was caught by Chargers ILB Donald Butler. It was Peyton's first red-zone INT of the season. Manning's passing day largely consisted of chain-moving completions to Demaryius and Julius Thomas and Wes Welker, as Denver controlled the game from start to finish and beat the Bolts at their own time-of-possession game (36:24). The Broncos will now gear up for an AFC Championship thriller as the Patriots travel to Mile High in Week 20. In our generation, there isn't a better NFL rivalry than Brady-Manning. |

Fri Jan 3 2014 | 13:16 | Peyton Manning heads NFL's All-Pro 1st team |
Peyton Manning was a consensus pick in the NFL's 2013 All-Pro voting, garnering 50-of-50 first-team votes via the Associated Press. |
Because Manning garnered every single quarterback vote, there was no second-team All-Pro QB this year. Here's the rest of the first-team offense: RBs LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Charles, FB Mike Tolbert, TE Jimmy Graham, WRs Calvin Johnson and Josh Gordon, OTs Joe Thomas and Jason Peters, OGs Louis Vasquez and Evan Mathis, and C Ryan Kalil. Justin Tucker earned first-team All-Pro kicker honors. Cordarrelle Patterson is the All-Pro kick returner. |

Peyton Manning (ankle) was upgraded to "full" for Thursday's practice. |

Thu Dec 12 2013 | 23:39 | Bolts hold Manning to 289 yards, two scores |
Peyton Manning completed 27-of-41 passes for 289 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Denver's 27-20, Week 15 loss to the Chargers. |
Manning was obviously off his game, but the real issue was how well the Chargers' executed their game-plan. Controlling the ball with the running game, San Diego held the Broncos to just 52 plays, and chewed up 38:49 of clock. When Manning was on the field, he tossed a few lifeless passes. He took a big hit on his pick, which fluttered like a wounded dove before landing in Thomas Keiser's arms. Manning definitely missed Wes Welker on his quick-hitting, chain-moving passes, but Andre Caldwell did a respectable impression in the slot. It just wasn't Denver's night. The good news, of course, is that Manning's "off" night - 289 yards, two scores - is hardly chump change for fantasy purposes. It's not an effort that should doom fantasy seasons. Manning gets the moribund Texans in Week 16. |

Mon Dec 9 2013 | 15:30 | John Fox won't discuss resting Peyton |
Coach John Fox wouldn't answer Monday when asked whether he would rest Peyton Manning in the event the Broncos clinched the AFC's No. 1 seed early. |
Although the notion of sitting players when high playoff seeding is locked in makes sense logically, the result of doing so has rarely paid off for teams who employ the strategy. This still isn't a Week 15 fantasy concern. The Broncos are 11-2, just one game ahead of the 10-3 Patriots and 10-3 division rival Chiefs. There's still plenty to play for. Denver faces San Diego in Week 15. |

Sun Dec 8 2013 | 19:25 | What cold? Peyton goes for 397 yards, 4 TDs |
Peyton Manning completed 39-of-59 passes for 397 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 51-28 Week 14 win over the Titans. |
With temperatures hovering around 16 degrees for much of the game and Manning facing the Titans' elite corner duo, pundits suggested the league's obvious MVP might struggle. It didn't happen. Manning was extremely sharp once again, spreading the ball to all his weapons and not missing a beat after Wes Welker left with a concussion. It's Manning's seventh game with more than 350 yards passing and his seventh game with four or more touchdown passes. He'll be fantasy's No. 1 quarterback in Week 15, when the Broncos host the Chargers. |

Thu Dec 5 2013 | 11:40 | Peyton Manning doesn't like the cold |
Peyton Manning is 3-7 in career games where the game-time temperature was 32 degrees or colder. |
That record includes both regular season and playoff games. In those contests, he's thrown 11 touchdowns against 12 interceptions with a 59.4 completion percentage and 214.1 yards per game. Obviously, those numbers are drastically below his normal output. The forecast for Sunday's home game against the Titans calls for 16 degree temperatures and a 30 percent chance of snow. |
