Not so long ago, the son of ESPN NFL analyst Mark Schlereth was a prized prospect in both Arizona and Detroit. Tendinitis in his throwing shoulder began wreaking havoc on his career in 2012 and the Tigers pulled the plug on Schlereth last winter. The 27-year-old was only healthy enough to complete 11 innings for Triple-A Norfolk (Orioles) in 2013, though he only allowed one earned run in those 12 relief appearances. |

It's surprising given that Schlereth wasn't eligible for salary arbitration, but they must be really concerned about his shoulder. Schlereth missed most of 2012 while dealing with shoulder tendinitis and posted a 10.29 ERA in seven innings when he was healthy. |

Schlereth was placed on the DL a week ago due to shoulder tendinitis, but the Tigers want to see if anything else is going on. "It was supposed to have been a 30-pitch bullpen session," Tigers head trainer Kevin Rand said. "It was cut at 15. Dr. Noonan's going to give a follow-up exam and offer a second opinion." We'll update Schlereth's status when more is known. |
