Cumberland (Achilles) will not play in Friday's preseason game, the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports.

Cumberland (Achilles) missed Monday's practice, NJ.com reports.
Cumberland exited last Tuesday's practice with soreness in his Achilles tendon and has not practiced or played since. While his condition isn't considered serious, Cumberland had surgery on his other Achilles back in 2011, so the tight end is certainly wary of coming back too early. Right now, it's unknown when Cumberland might feel comfortable to return to action, but when he does, he figures to re-assume the Jets' starting tight end position ahead of rookie Jace Amaro.

Cumberland is dealing with a minor Achilles' injury, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.
Coach Rex Ryan believes that Cumberland should be able to play against Bengals in Saturday's preseason contest, though the tight end's fantasy upside is hampered by the Jets' addition of second-round draft choice Jace Amaro.

Cumberland left Tuesday's practice with tightness in his Achilles' tendon, ESPN New York reports.
Cumberland's ailment doesn't seems serious, but it's worth noting the tight end had his other Achilles' surgically repaired in 2011. As such, the veteran should be wary of his latest ailment, which could result in a few rest days. In any event, Cumberland embodies a key member of the Jets' offense, as he's currently projected as the team's starting tight end and also has the responsibility of mentoring rookie second-rounder Jace Amaro into the NFL.

Wed Feb 19 201419:06Jets in talks to re-sign TE Jeff Cumberalnd
The New York Daily News reports the Jets are in discussions with free agent TE Jeff Cumberland.
The team is reportedly "bullish" on Cumberland's ability to take the next step in his development. Cumberland has soft hands and was a college wide receiver, but he isn't going to scare defenses. He wouldn't be a bad "1B" to a tight end with better movement skills and speed. Cumberland is our No. 15 free-agent tight end.

Rotating with Kellen Winslow, Cumberland is a plodding mover on a poor passing team. We hope you don't even feel the need to roster him in fantasy leagues for Week 13 against the Dolphins.

Cumberland was targeted twice on the day. He's typically Geno Smith's favorite target over the middle and down the seams, but David Nelson played that role this week. Cumberland is too inconsistent to be anything more than a low TE2.

Cumberland must have been extremely limited, as the Jets' press corps reported him as "DNP" earlier Thursday.
