Mon Oct 15 201210:53'Unclear' if Quinn or Cassel will start W7
According to the Kansas City Star, it's "unclear" whether Brady Quinn or Matt Cassel (concussion) will be under center when the Chiefs return from their Week 7 bye.
Quinn was predictably even worse than Cassel in his first start since 2009 Sunday, so it's more likely than not Cassel will be back at quarterback when the Chiefs take on the Raiders. With both Quinn and Cassel playing horrendous football, it's more questionable than ever why GM Scott Pioli allowed Kyle Orton to walk in free agency. Then again, this is the same general manager who believed Tyler Palko was an acceptable NFL backup in 2011.

Sun Oct 14 201216:52Brady Quinn throws for 180 yards, 2 INTs
Brady Quinn completed 22-of-38 passes for 180 yards and a pair of interceptions versus the Bucs in Week 6.
It's hard to blame Quinn for the two picks. The first, in the red zone, was dropped by TE Steve Maneri and the second was a fluky 78-yard pick-six that was stripped from Dexter McCluster and flipped into Ronde Barber's hands. Quinn was guilty of poor accuracy, shaky reaction to pressure and an inability to move the offensive, however. His 4.7 YPA and 48.1 passer rating were even worse than his underwhelming career rates. He's certainly not an upgrade on Matt Cassel, and it's fair to question GM Scott Pioli's failure to find a legitimate backup QB the past few years. Heading into the Week 7 bye, the Chiefs' only lead all season has been at the buzzer in New Orleans.

Sat Oct 13 201212:06Daboll acknowledges conservative play calling
Brian Daboll acknowledged Friday that conservative play calling was a factor in the Chiefs' Week 5 loss to the Ravens.
The Chiefs ran 51 times while trying just 17 passes, and ran the ball on 40 percent of their third-down plays when they needed 5 yards or more to extend a drive. Despite 214 yards on the ground, the Chiefs had nine rushing plays for negative yardage. A similar game plan could prove especially problematic in Week 6 against a Buccaneers defense that has forced the second-most negative running plays.

Thu Oct 11 201211:37Brady Quinn taking all the first-team reps
Brady Quinn is taking the first-team reps in practice this week.
The Chiefs haven't officially ruled out Matt Cassel (concussion) yet, but it's just a formality. Quinn is fully expected to start his first game since 2009. Although went 2-of-2 for 32 yards and had a 15-yard touchdown pass called back due to penalty last week, his career numbers are ugly: 52.4 completion percentage, 10 touchdowns, nine interceptions and four fumbles in 15 games. Quinn can't play much worse than Cassel was, but he doesn't project to fare much better either.

Tue Oct 2 201208:08Brady Quinn could get in game vs. Ravens?
Coach Romeo Crennel left open the possibility of Brady Quinn getting in Sunday's game against the Ravens.
It sounds like Crennel is going to have a quick hook this week with Matt Cassel, who has seven interceptions and three lost fumbles through four games. "If you feel he's inept, constantly making poor decisions, bad choices, then that's when you move on from him and give someone else a chance," Crennel said. Quinn hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2009.

Mon Oct 1 201218:42Crennel: Quinn's practice reps may increase
On Monday, Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel wouldn't rule out the possibility of increasing Brady Quinn's first-team QB reps this week.
The Chiefs' faith in Matt Cassel is fading fast -- though arguably two years, too late -- and they're now weighing their pathetic fallback options. "We'll see as the week goes on," said Crennel of a potential increase in Quinn's reps. The Chiefs should have re-signed Kyle Orton in the offseason. They don't have a starting quarterback, and Quinn isn't even a legitimate No. 2.

Fri Aug 31 201216:53Quinn suffers neck injury preseason finale
Chiefs backup QB Brady Quinn suffered a neck injury in Thursday's preseason finale.
The team is still awaiting test results to determine the severity. In the mean time, Kansas City is a logical landing spot for recently released QB Brian Hoyer or Dolphins backup Matt Moore. Chiefs GM Scott Pioli has ties to New England, and OC Brian Daboll coached Moore in Miami.

Sun Aug 26 201201:47Brady Quinn outplaying Ricky Stanzi
Chiefs backup QB Brady Quinn has reportedly outplayed Ricky Stanzi all summer.
It's a concern for Stanzi's long-term development that he's already lost the battle to back up Matt Cassel. Quinn through three preseason games has gone 17-of-29 (58.6 percent) for 195 yards (6.7 YPA), one touchdown, and one pick facing second- and third-stringers. Stanzi has been so bad that the Chiefs didn't even play him in their third preseason game, a tuneup for the regular season.

Sat Aug 11 201214:07Quinn, Stanzi still battling
Fighting to back-up Matt Cassel, neither Brady Quinn nor Ricky Stanzi gained separation in Friday's preseason opener.
Quinn entered before Stanzi, completing 7-of-13 passes for 81 yards and an interception. Stanzi completed only 2-of-7 throws for 42 yards. Although it's hard to believe either Quinn or Stanzi could be worse than Tyler Palko was last season, backup quarterback appears poised to remain an issue for the Chiefs.

Mon Aug 6 201220:51Quinn ahead of Stanzi on first depth chart
Brady Quinn is ahead of Ricky Stanzi on the Chiefs' first preseason depth chart.
The battle won't really take shape until the preseason fur begins to fly, but it's still an ominous sign for Stanzi after he couldn't push ahead of journeyman Tyler Palko as a fifth-round rookie last season.

Wed Jul 4 201209:51Brady Quinn has the edge for the backup job?
ESPN's Bill Williamson believes Brady Quinn still has a slight edge for the Chiefs backup quarterback job.
Ricky Stanzi was the better player as he rotated with Quinn during the spring, setting up a true training camp battle. Quinn was only signed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract, so he's certainly not on solid footing. The former first-round pick has started just 12 games during his five-year career, going 3-9.

Fri Mar 16 201219:47Report: Brady Quinn to visit Chiefs
Free agent QB Brady Quinn will reportedly visit the Chiefs.
Quinn's Jets visit was canceled after Drew Stanton signed. He was in Cleveland with new Chiefs OC Brian Daboll a couple of years ago, so the fit makes sense even if Quinn won't provide the much-needed competition for Matt Cassel.

Fri Mar 16 201212:15Brady Quinn spotted in St. Louis
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports free agent QB Brady Quinn was at Rams Park Thursday.
It's unclear if it was an official visit, but the Rams are officially in the market for a backup to Sam Bradford. Quinn reportedly threw to fellow free agent Steve Smith, who was making an official visit. Quinn will visit the Jets on Friday.

Thu Mar 15 201216:32Jets to host QB Brady Quinn on Friday
Free agent QB Brady Quinn will visit the Jets on Friday.
We're starting to see the real cost of the Mark Sanchez "apology" extension. The Jets' hands are now tied in bringing in a legitimate insurance policy as the top backup. Instead, they're courting third-string types such as Quinn and Drew Stanton.

Sun Jan 8 201212:24Report: Broncos will use Brady Quinn today
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports that the Broncos do plan to use Brady Quinn on third downs in Sunday's Wild Card game against the Steelers.
It's unclear whether Quinn will play in all third-and-long situations to open the game, or whether he'll only play in some packages. Per Glazer, the Broncos would bench Tebow outright if he "completely struggles." Either way, it's pretty clear Tebow is going to have to start Sunday's game hot from a passing-game standpoint in order to last four quarters. His rhythm could be affected if the Broncos mix and match quarterbacks during the game.

Fri Jan 6 201216:58Brady Quinn took more snaps than usual
ESPN's Ed Werder reports Brady Quinn took eight first-team reps in Broncos practice this week, and that it was more than usual.
Quinn is saying he didn't get extra practice snaps, but perhaps because the Broncos told him to keep quiet. Multiple reports have now claimed Quinn's in-practice role was increased. With as many running plays as the Broncos use, it's fair to wonder how many true "quarterback reps" starter Tim Tebow receives in a given week. Either way, Tebow may be on a short leash Sunday.

Fri Jan 6 201216:22Report: Quinn didn't get first-team reps
NFL.com reports that Brady Quinn did not take first-team reps in Broncos practice this week.
According to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, the Broncos had "internal discussions" about splitting quarterback reps between Quinn and Tim Tebow, but it didn't actually occur. Quinn also told Darlington that he "hasn't gotten any extra reps." Quinn added that he received only two reps in Friday's practice.

Fri Jan 6 201215:25Report: Tebow splitting reps with Brady Quinn
Brady Quinn has been getting "roughly half the first-team reps in practice this week," a source tells ProFootballTalk.com.
Over the final three regular season games, Tim Tebow tossed four interceptions against one touchdown and lost three fumbles. The Broncos went 0-3. It appears the Broncos are now preparing a backup plan in case Tebow faceplants against the Steelers on Sunday. We already know that the organization hasn't been in Tebow's corner since jump street.

Mon Nov 7 201111:51Quinn was at the ready Sunday
Broncos executive John Elway said that Brady Quinn was ready to go Sunday if Tim Tebow faltered again.
Tebow quickly squashed the threat of losing his job by improving in the passing game and leading his team to a win. But Elway confirmed that heading into yesterday, Tebow's leash was very short. "If we'd have seen what happened the last couple of weeks, we might have seen a change," Elway said Monday. Quinn has moved ahead of Kyle Orton for backup duties.
