Stanton (concussion) will likely achieve active status Sunday against Washington, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports. However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network speculates that Carson Palmer (shoulder) is expected to start, which would relegate Stanton to a reserve role.
The Cardinals received nary a good word regarding their injured quarterbacks this week until Stanton was cleared from the league's concussion protocol following Friday's drills. Meanwhile, Palmer failed to log a full practice, which was intended to be his caveat to return to action. Barring a setback in pregame warmups, his first appearance since suffering a nerve issue in Week 1 is slated to occur. If Palmer's shoulder fails to hold up, though, Stanton is ready and waiting to direct the offense in Arizona. Continue to monitor the situation as their 4:25 PM ET kickoff approaches.
Fri Oct 10 201422:10Drew Stanton: (Concussion) Cleared To Play
Stanton (concussion) has been cleared to play Sunday against the Redskins, Kent Somers of AZCentral.com reports.
While Stanton has cleared the final stages of the league's concussion protocol, just five days after suffering the injury, the report notes that it's still uncertain who will be under center for the Cardinals come Sunday. Carson Palmer (shoulder) threw passes in Friday's practice, but his throws were simply lob passes, and coach Bruce Arians has been adamant throughout the week that Palmer would need to practice in full in order to play against Washington. Logan Thomas is the only completely healthy quarterback option for the Cardinals, but he went just 1-for-8 in relief last week, and it seems likely the team will do whatever it can to avoid starting him.
Fri Oct 10 201418:52Drew Stanton: (Concussion) Questionable for Sunday
Stanton (concussion) is questionable for Sunday's game against Washington, and coach Bruce Arians said he doesn't know whether Stanton, Carson Palmer (shoulder) or Logan Thomas will start.
Stanton has to receive concussion clearance in order to play, and Palmer's shoulder would presumably need to improve beyond the 80 percent health figure relayed by Arians on Friday in order for Palmer to play. That leaves both players' statuses completely up in the air for Sunday, thus making Thomas yet another candidate to start. Arians said all three players might be active Sunday. Kickoff is at 4:25 eastern time for the Cardinals, and it's possible that not much will be known before around that time.
Thu Oct 9 201418:18Drew Stanton: Concussion Test Friday
Stanton, who was limited in Thursday's practice, is slated for a concussion test Friday, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Following drills Thursday, Stanton spoke with much optimism and even mentioned that he's symptom-free. While Friday's test will ultimately determine the last point, he seems to be trending in the right direction to achieve active status Sunday versus Washington. As for the remaining signal callers, Carson Palmer's shoulder hasn't regressed, but he remained limited Thursday. If he's unable to complete a full practice Friday, coach Bruce Arians has said that Palmer will be ruled out, leaving Stanton and rookie Logan Thomas as the only options under center. Expect a magnitude of clarification upon the release of Friday's injury report.
Sun Oct 5 201420:51Drew Stanton: Diagnosed With Concussion
Stanton has been diagnosed with a concussion, which he suffered in the third quarter of Sunday's defeat at Denver, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Stanton was removed from action after a hard hit from Von Miller, but not before completing 11-of-26 passes for 118 yards. His replacement, rookie Logan Thomas, didn't exactly light it up, going 1-for-8, with his one successful strike resulting in an unexpected 81-yard touchdown. If the continued treatment of Carson Palmer's shoulder in Denver doesn't yield the desired results, and Stanton remains embedded in the league's concussion protocol, the dicey proposition of handing the ball to Thomas may spur the Cardinals to sign a veteran in the coming days in order to ensure a fighting chance against Washington next Sunday.
Sun Oct 5 201418:27Drew Stanton: Exits With Possible Concussion
Stanton left Sunday's game against the Broncos in the third quarter to be evaluated for a concussion, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.
Stanton was replaced by rookie fourth-round draft pick Logan Thomas, who took sacks on the first two dropbacks of his career. At the time of his exit, Stanton had completed just 11-of-26 passes for 118 yards, with no touchdowns or turnovers.
Fri Oct 3 201415:51Drew Stanton: Starting Against Broncos
Stanton will start against the Broncos on Sunday, FOX Sports' Mike Jurecki reports.
Carson Palmer's shoulder nerve issue still hasn't resolved itself, so the Cardinals will give Stanton his third straight start. Stanton was encouraging against the 49ers two weeks ago, throwing for 244 yards and two touchdowns, so it's an easily justified decision. Stanton figures to face more pressure from a Denver defense featuring Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware, however.

Stanton will remain the starting quarterback until Carson Palmer (shoulder) is healthy enough to return, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports.
While Palmer's shoulder is improving, with throwing possible leading up to the Cardinals' next game in Week 5 at Denver, Stanton has fared well in his stead, leading back-to-back victories. Sure, Stanton's completion percentage (51.6, or 32-of-62) leaves something to be desired, but he upped his yards per attempt to a steady 7.39 on Sunday against the 49ers, as he showed off an array of throws, despite taking consecutive roughing penalties during his second third-quarter touchdown drive. The Cardinals' upcoming bye week could provide enough time for Palmer's nerve issue to resolve itself, but in the meantime, Stanton's knowledge of coach Bruce Arians' offense is evident.

Stanton threw for 244 yards with two touchdowns in Sunday's 23-14 win over San Francisco.
Stanton took some big hits in the game, but showed a lot of toughness, and didn't miss any action. He did a good job taking advantage of his weapons, hooking up with Michael Floyd on a couple of long passes, while finding rookie John Brown for two scores. Arizona has a bye next week, so it's possible that Carson Palmer (shoulder) will be healthy enough to play in Week 5, sending Stanton back to the bench.
Fri Sep 19 201415:38Drew Stanton: Starting Against SF
Stanton will start against San Francisco on Sunday.
Stanton wasn't good against the Giants last week, completing 14-of-29 passes for just 167 yards, taking four sacks. The 49ers defense has been mostly effective this year, so it's hard to see Stanton getting much going against them. Owners of Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald should cross their fingers for an imminent Carson Palmer return, but it's not clear when to expect Palmer to return from his shoulder injury.

Stanton, starting in place of the injured Carson Palmer (shoulder), completed 14-of-29 passes for 167 yards Sunday against the Giants.
Stanton completed passes to seven different receivers, focusing on Larry Fitzgerald, who caught six passes on 10 targets for 51 yards. Fitzgerald almost had a touchdown in the first quarter, but it was overturned after it was decided he did not break the plane. Stanton did enough to lead the Cardinals to victory, but he isn't likely to be a solid fantasy contributor if Palmer has to miss any time.

Stanton is the Cardinals' starting quarterback with Carson Palmer (shoulder) inactive Sunday against the Giants in New York.
After failing to throw all week, Palmer couldn't fend off the "nerve issues" in his right shoulder during pregame warmups, resulting in his first absence with the Cardinals. Meanwhile, Stanton, who is making his first start since Dec. 19, 2010, may surprise with his acumen of an offense that he's been studying for two-plus seasons under the tutelage of coach Bruce Arians.

Stanton is in line to start Sunday's game against the Giants, with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reporting that Carson Palmer will not play in the contest.
The report indicates that Palmer tested his shoulder out Sunday and evidently that didn't go as hoped. Assuming inactives confirm this outcome, Stanton thus appears to be an option in Week 2 for deep-leaguers, or those scrambling to replace Palmer.
Wed Apr 3 201310:16Drew Stanton will now play behind Palmer
Drew Stanton will be Carson Palmer's backup this season.
Stanton was poised to finally get his shot as an NFL starter until the Cardinals swung the trade for Palmer. Now he'll revert back to his familiar clipboard-holding role. Stanton has started just four games in his six-year career.

Thu Mar 21 201310:14Cardinals expected to roll with Drew Stanton
According to the Associated Press, there's "no doubt" the Cardinals are leaning toward Drew Stanton as their starter.
On Wednesday, coach Bruce Arians insisted his team doesn't need to hunt for a quarterback. "We already found one," he said. Arians may be sending up a smokescreen, but his faith in Drew Stanton appears real. Stanton knows the system after spending last year as Andrew Luck's backup, has good arm strength and has gone 2-2 as an NFL starter. "I have all the confidence in the world with him being our starter," Arians said. Stanton should be viewed as a bridge to the Cardinals' long-term solution at quarterback.

Wed Mar 20 201311:19Arians expects to pick QB early in offseason
Coach Bruce Arians said he intends to name a starting quarterback early in the offseason.
Arians said he wants competition throughout his roster, but not at the quarterback position. That's good news for Drew Stanton, who already knows Arians' scheme and is considered the leader in the clubhouse. His main competition will come from John Skelton and a possible draft pick, although Arians claims he won't be drafting for need in April.

Mon Mar 18 201320:34Arians: Stanton is 'very capable' as starter
When asked if he thinks his starting quarterback is currently on the roster, coach Bruce Arians said there is a "very capable one" in Drew Stanton.
"Drew knows the offense, he is more than capable of doing it. If he is our guy, I am comfortable," Arians said. Arians says he's comfortable with Stanton because he already knows the offense, but he wasn't guaranteeing him the job. We fully expect a competition for the job this summer between Stanton, one or two of the current in-house signal callers, and a high- to mid-round draft pick. Stanton clearly has an early leg up, though.

Fri Mar 15 201319:12Report: Cardinals unlikely to draft QB at 7
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Total Access Friday that the Cardinals are unlikely to draft a quarterback at No. 7 overall.
Arizona at No. 7 is the popular landing spot for West Virginia's Geno Smith in mock drafts. "What I do here from the Cardinals, it's unlikely that they would draft a quarterback in the first round," Rapoport reported. "So it looks like going into the 2013 season, it's gonna be (Brian) Hoyer versus (Drew) Stanton." The Cards also have John Skelton and Ryan Lindley on the roster, and they could both be placed on the trade block. If Arizona is going to move the ball on offense in 2013, they're going to need some serious Bruce Arians magic.

Wed Mar 13 201320:25Stanton was promised shot at starting gig
New Cardinals QB Drew Stanton was promised a chance to compete for the starting job.
Stanton came to the right place if he wants to gain control of a team for the first time in his career. Kevin Kolb could end up cut if he can't work out a contract renegotiation, John Skelton/Ryan Lindley have repeatedly faceplanted and Brian Hoyer is just as unproven. Stanton knows Bruce Arians' offense well after watching Andrew Luck operate it all last season.

Wed Mar 13 201317:32Cardinals sign Drew Stanton for 3 years
Cardinals signed QB Drew Stanton to a three-year contract.
29-year-old Stanton immediately becomes the favorite to start at quarterback in Arizona, although that'll be subject to change. Stanton learned Bruce Arians' offense in Indianapolis last season, holding the clipboard for Andrew Luck. Stanton is 2-2 in his career as a starter with a 5:9 TD-to-INT ratio. He possesses plenty of arm strength and plus-yardage scrambling ability, but has scattershot accuracy and is not a long-term solution.
