Mike Adams (back) will be activated from the disabled list on Sunday. |
Adams had been scheduled to make a rehab appearance next Monday, but evidently he's recovering a little quicker than expected. Fri Apr 26 2013 | 17:43 | Phils' Adams dealing with tender hip |
Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee revealed Friday that Mike Adams has been dealing with a "tender hip." |
Adams wasn't available Thursday and it's unclear whether the Phillies will use him on Friday. It's worth noting that he has appeared in 11 of the team's 23 games -- a heavy workload coming off surgery to address his thoracic outlet syndrome -- so the club is just being cautious. "A lot of work," said Dubee. "He had a tender hip, but that's no issue. He aggravated it one day. But that you go with. you'll have stuff (like that) on a regular basis. But the workload - he's pitched a lot." |

Adams owns a 2.57 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio over seven innings this season, but he has displayed diminished velocity. The veteran set-up man indicated that he might not be 100 percent following October to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome, so the situation is worth monitoring. He joined the Phillies this winter on a two-year, $12 million contract. |

Wed Feb 13 2013 | 15:45 | Mike Adams on schedule for season |
Mike Adams is on schedule for spring training following surgery in October to correct his Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. |
Adams has already thrown off a mound three times and will do so again on Thursday. He probably won't pitch until the second week of the Grapefruit League schedule, but there's no need to push it with spring training being longer than usual this year. "It has nothing to do with injury reasons," said Adams. "It's going to be a long spring training. There really is no reason to get 18 innings in the spring. We're going to save some bullets from the very beginning." Adams inked a two-year, $12 million contract with the Phillies over the winter and could be a shutdown set-up man for Jonathan Papelbon. |

Fri Dec 21 2012 | 10:16 | Mike Adams dealt with ailment all season |
Mike Adams has admitted that he dealt with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome all of last season. |
"Last year was a struggle for me," Adams said. "The TOS was something that kicked in in early April. I didn't know what was happening. I thought I was just having some shoulder discomfort issues. The majority of the season I battled not having the same stuff I had previously." This would help explain why the reliever's velocity was down and he wasn't as effective in 2012. Adams, of course, eventually had surgery in October to address the issue. Assuming he returns at 100 percent, he could be in line for a big bounce-back season. |
