Greenway (hand/ribs) is questionable for Sunday's game against New Orleans.
Greenway logged just one limited practice this week, but coach Mike Zimmer previously stated that he expects Greenway to play Sunday. Still, his shaky health situation makes him an unideal IDP consideration for now.
Thu Sep 18 201417:43Greenway (broken left hand) did not practice Thursday
Greenway (broken left hand) did not practice Thursday. However, head coach Mike Zimmer remained optimistic he'll play this week, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. "He's tough. He'll be all right," Zimmer said.
Greenway broke his left hand, according to ESPN, which is different than the right wrist he broke last year. It sounds like Greenway will play this week, but check to make sure he participates in some practice Friday.
Wed Sep 17 201417:13Greenway (hand) didn't practice Wednesday
Greenway (hand) didn't practice Wednesday, Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Greenway sustained broken hand in Week 2, but coach Mike Zimmer said that he expects the linebacker to suit up Sunday at New Orleans. Last season, Greenway played with a fractured right wrist but still gutted out the entire 16-game slate. Expect the status of the high-volume tackler to be clarified by week's end.

Greenway suffered a broken hand during Sunday's game against the Patriots, but is still expected to play this week FOX Sports North reports.
Greenway's injury is certainly not a minor one, but coach Mike Zimmer still expects his starting weakside linebacker to be able to play Sunday versus the Saints. With that outlook, it will be interesting to see if Greenway is indeed made available, despite carrying a broken hand. If he plays, Greenway would definitely need to wear some sort of protective cast or club to prevent further damage. Expect Greenway's status to be sorted out as the week unfolds, regardless of Zimmer's initial optimism.

Greenway had two total tackles and one quarterback hurry in Sunday's win at St. Louis.
Greenway didn't pile up many stats in a lopsided win, but should was on the field for 59 of 67 snaps on defense. He stays on the field in nickle situations, so he should put up better tackle totals.

Greenway returned to practice Thursday after getting tests on a sore wrist earlier in the week, ESPN reports.
Greenway played with a fractured right wrist during the second half of last season, but the Vikings wouldn't specify if the tests were on the same wrist. Luckily the injury looks minor since he's back in practice, but it's something to keep in mind in case it becomes an issue again.
Wed Aug 20 201415:00Greenway underwent tests for sore wrist
Greenway underwent tests for a sore wrist, but the injury isn't thought to be serious, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "He's got a little wrist," Zimmer said. "It's not a big deal. He's been MRIed and X-rayed and we just don't want to irritate it more."
Greenway played with a fractured right wrist during the second half of last season, but the Vikings wouldn't specify if the tests were on the same wrist. It likely won't impact his availability for Week 1, but he may not play in the preseason as a result.
Thu Jul 31 201411:11Greenway will resume playing outside linebacker this coming seas...
Greenway, who new coach Mike Zimmer experimented with at middle linebacker during spring drills, will resume playing outside linebacker this coming season, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Greenway spent time in the middle of Zimmer's 4-3 scheme during the beginning of team activities this year, but is expected to remain at his established outside linebacker position for the coming campaign. It appears Zimmer was simply gauging his Pro Bowl linebacker's skill set before embarking on their first season together. A tackling machine, Greenway has registered at least 130 stops in each of the past four seasons, giving him considerable IDP value no matter where he lines up.
Wed Jul 30 201419:13Vikings unlikely to use Greenway at MLB
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Matt Vensel reports the Vikings' are unlikely to use Chad Greenway at middle linebacker.
Vensel guesses Greenway could be a fall-back option in the middle, but he will stick to the weak side for now. Jasper Brinkley saw most of the first-team reps at MIKE on Wednesday and will compete with Audie Cole for the starting job.

Wed Jul 23 201421:52Vikings may move Greenway to MLB
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is open to moving Chad Greenway to middle linebacker.
Zimmer played strong-side linebacker last season under Leslie Frazier. He practiced at weak side during OTAs, and is now under consideration at Mike. "It's a possibility," Zimmer said. "We keep working him in there. We're just trying to find the best 11 players we can and then figure out where the rest of the guys are going to fit." Greenway's IDP stock could rise in the middle.

Sat May 31 201418:24Chad Greenway seeing time at multiple spots
Chad Greenway confirmed he's moving to weak-side linebacker.
Greenway played "SAM" linebacker last year, but should get the majority of his snaps at the "WILL" spot this season. He's also seen time at middle linebacker during OTAs and could be moved inside in certain packages. Greenway and Anthony Barr are locked in as starters in Mike Zimmer's defense, with Gerald Hodges, Audie Cole, and Jasper Brinkley competing for the final linebacker spot.

Sat Mar 15 201411:01Vikings' Greenway takes $1 mil pay cut
WLB Chad Greenway has agreed to reduce his base salary from $6.5 million to a fully guaranteed $5.5 million.
Greenway is coming off of a horrific season where he graded out 34th among 35 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' 4-3 outside linebacker ratings. He has been solid through out his career, though, and should offer a veteran presence for a defense in transition. Greenway 2015 salary remains the same, meaning the Vikings could save $7.1 million by cutting Greenway after 2014.

Fri Jan 3 201411:49Chad Greenway owed $6.5 million in 2014
Vikings WLB Chad Greenway is owed $6.5 million in salary and bonuses in 2014.
His base salary is $6.4 million with a $100,000 offseason workout bonus. Turning 31 later this month, Greenway is coming off of a horrific season where he graded out 34th among 35 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' 4-3 outside linebacker ratings. Only Miami's Philip Wheeler was worse. We suspect the Vikings will keep Greenway for 2014, but it's hardly a guarantee. Minnesota may undergo a rebuilding process this spring after ranking 31st in total defense.

Wed Jun 19 201308:14Chad Greenway scope cleaned the meniscus
The arthroscopic knee surgery Chad Greenway underwent last week was on his left meniscus.
Greenway had some "residual fraying" of his meniscus. It may have been related to his 2006 ACL tear in the same knee. Regardless, he's in no danger of missing Week 1 and fully expects to be ready for the start of camp. "There will be no doubt in my mind unless I get in a car accident or something," said Greenway. "From the knee perspective, it'll be 100 percent, good to go."
