Mon Sep 17 201209:41Bernard Pollard's ribs are fractured
Ravens SS Bernard Pollard has been diagnosed with a rib contusion.
Pollard took a shot from teammate Courtney Upshaw during the first quarter Sunday and never returned. Eagles tight end Brent Celek proceeded to rip apart the Ravens' defense and backup James Ihedigbo. X-rays of Pollard's chest showed no fracture, so he should be able to get back on the field quickly.

Tue May 8 201219:54Ravens sign SS Pollard to 3-year extension
Ravens signed SS Bernard Pollard to a three-year extension.
Pollard was entering the last season of a two-year, $2.735 million contract signed last summer. Starting 13 of 16 games, Pollard recorded 55 tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception opposite Ed Reed. The Ravens value him as a vocal leader and back-end enforcer. With the improvement at cornerback, Pollard's lack of range isn't as much of a factor in the passing game.

Tue Jan 24 201208:47Ravens likely to exercise Pollard's bonus
Ravens SS Bernard Pollard is due a $500,000 roster bonus on the 10th day of the new league year.
The Carroll County Times believes the Ravens will likely pick it up after Pollard notched 75 tackles, two sacks and a pick across 16 games this season, 13 of which were starts. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' 10th best safety. Pollard just turned 27 in December.

Sun Aug 21 201115:21Pollard has edge over Zbikowski at SS
Bernard Pollard started over Tom Zbikowski at strong safety in the Ravens' second preseason game.
The two have been splitting first-team practice reps since Pollard signed in early August. It's now believed to be Pollard's job to lose. The Ravens apparently trust Ed Reed to make up for Pollard's deficiencies in coverage skills.

Sat Aug 6 201109:20Ravens have wide open safety competition
The competition for the Ravens' starting strong safety job is "wide open."
Bernard Pollard was signed on Wednesday to compete with Tom Zbikowski and Haruki Nakamura, but isn't believed to have any sort of a leg up on the job. Zbikowski was the only player of the three to start any games in a Ravens uniform last season, and is probably the slight favorite, particularly since Pollard struggles so much in coverage.

Wed Aug 3 201122:20Ravens sign SS Bernard Pollard
Ravens agreed to terms with SS Bernard Pollard on a two-year contract.
Tom Zbikowski continues to miss time on the NFI list with a skin condition, so the Ravens are protecting themselves with veteran depth. They're always interested in another hard hitter. If it comes to it, Pollard can play strong safety on running downs with Haruki Nakamura replacing him in passing situations.

Wed Aug 3 201120:34Ravens looking at Bernard Pollard
The Carroll County Times' Aaron Wilson reports the Ravens are expected to sign free agent SS Bernard Pollard.
The Ravens are apparently looking for depth at safety with Tom Zbikowski on the non-football illlness list with a skin condition. Extremely poor in coverage, Pollard did manage to lead the Texans with 112 tackles last season.

Wed Mar 2 201121:27Texans part with S Pollard, other key players
The Texans declined tenders to SS Bernard Pollard, LB Zach Diles, OG Kasey Studdard, and DL Tim Bulman, making them unrestricted free agents.
Pollard led Houston in tackles last season, but they've apparently decided to make him the scapegoat for their league-worst 2010 pass defense. Pollard can't cover, to be sure, but the Texans should've known that going in. He'll land on his feet as a box safety elsewhere. Diles and Studdard combined to make 36 starts over the past two seasons, but Studdard lost his job last year and Diles apparently wasn't deemed fit for Wade Phillips' new 3-4.

Thu Jan 27 201120:17Pollard less than optimistic about re-signing
Impending free agent SS Bernard Pollard is less than optimistic that he'll be back with the Texans in 2011.
Pressed for his "gut feel" on getting a new deal done in Houston, Pollard replied, "You don't want to know that." While he's been strong in run support, Pollard was one of the prime culprit's in Houston's league-worst secondary in 2010. The team won't overpay to keep him.

Mon Oct 4 201018:41Bernard Pollard suffered a stinger
Texans SS Bernard Pollard suffered a stinger in the team's Week 4 stomping of Oakland, but is expected to be fine going forward.
This is more just an opportunity to discuss Pollard's play. The hard-hitting former Chief ranks third in the NFL in tackles (41), including an eye-popping 26 in his last two games. He's also forced a fumble and deflected a pass.

Fri Jul 23 201015:42Bernard Pollard a Pro Bowler?
Texans DBs coach David Gibbs says he'll "be surprised" if SS Bernard Pollard "is not a Pro Bowl safety this year."
He should've been last year. Adrian Wilson-like in his ability to support the run, Pollard ranked eighth among safeties in tackles and was better than ever in coverage. His 2009 release by the Chiefs further proves that Bill Belichick is the Patriots' mastermind, and that K.C. GM Scott Pioli wasn't.
